Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

Scrunch butt leggings have definitely been designed to accentuate the arse

they also give you horrendous camel toe

BirthdayRainbow · 06/09/2024 08:00

I posted on here once about how even our running clothes seem to be designed for men to look at us and I got such a sarcastic response. When I'm running I am forever pulling my T-shirt down as I don't want men looking at my backside and sometimes I sense they are. I hate it. I've yet to find longer running tops and while I have some trousers I would class as like tracky bottoms and aren't skin tight I'm not sure about running in them as they are quite flary.

I've seen some women wearing leggings that are so tight and a particular colour that it can appear they are naked at first glance. Either they want to be looked at or they've not looked in the rear view mirror.

LoopyLoo1991 · 06/09/2024 08:01

In the gym or jogging it's fine. I do like to oogle female bums so I'm a bit biased... 😌

It's the skintight and sheer ones that get me particularly on public transport. And those that are obviously not wearing anything underneath in summer 😳 I broken two toes attending horses in June, and have been using lower seats on the hoppa bus adjacent to the wheelchair space since then. Having a thinly clad fanjo less than a foot away is distracting and can be irritating. Particularly if you can smell them! And bear in mind I occasionally smoke, so what my poor BF or my aunt have to put up with sensitive noses...🐟🌮
I've gonna commando in long summer dresses - summer of 2022 for exam - but no one could ever have seen. Hopefully this is just a trend and soon some other fad will replace it?

Gettingbysomehow · 06/09/2024 08:01

I think scrunch butt leggings are absolutely disgusting. You may as well wear a g string to the gym. I don't want to see it.

Lemonadeand · 06/09/2024 08:02

I wear sports leggings for sport.

YellowAsteroid · 06/09/2024 08:04

I train (metcon & heavy lifting) at a serious powerlifting gym, where there are almost as many women as men. And several of the women, including the female PTs wear leggings that are a bit "scrunchy" - not as exaggerrated as the ones upthread. The PTs and the other women I see wearing them are serious heavy lifters even though they have the temerity to wear leggings which accentuate their glutes.

Me, I have glutes of steel and can deadlift 150% of my bodyweight, and backsquat 100% of my bodyweight, but I have no sticky-out butt - it's flat. Glute shape is genetic, unless you dabble with plastic surgery.

Those scrunch leggings are 100% made to accentuate the bum…which is probably the point trying to be made. Quite fun to read the responses that missed that point 😂

Seaside3 · 06/09/2024 08:09

@MissTrip82 I'm curious as to why you think I was being misogynistic?

TeachesOfPeaches · 06/09/2024 08:09

Skin tight fashion leggings with a short top, you can literally see everything in the front. Yuck

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 05/09/2024 23:01

I wear gym leggings to work out because I would look stupid in jeans.

Your dp is a dirty pervert who thinks he can look at other women because they are asking for it by wearing trousers. HTH.

Quite.

Men look at women.
We could wear bin bags and they would still ogle us.

Well not me because I'm middle-aged.

But they would stare & beep at me in my 'sexy' primary school uniform on my school, so I would say the problem is men not leggings.

Btw those bum scrunch leggings are to allow women to bend and squat at the gym etc without the leggings going see-through or worse splitting

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/09/2024 08:10

How does one get to the gym then if they can't wear gym gear on the bus

Peachy2005 · 06/09/2024 08:12

Ugh I wish men wouldn’t wear loose-legged shorts to Pilates. I have to keep my eyes shut during floor work so I don’t accidentally see up their shorts 🤢

Personally I wear yoga pants with flared legs (like bootcut) for the gym and classes - but I’m usually the only one not wearing what I call “running tights”.

Sorry but that made me think, "Is this the start of a porn film?"

Scene one: Lesbians working out together.

WTF?! Why on earth did your mind go there?

The OP did say "to make other people look at their figure" not for men to look at their figure. And she did say "those" leggings so we all know she's talking about the arse accentuating scrunch bum ones.

I do hate myself for saying this but I do think some will wear them so that other people will look and admire their bums.

Ah. Yes. The anonymity of middle age. We would all make such good spies! We can go where we want and do what we want. Evil plans to the ready! Wha ha ha ha!! 👿

When I started running 20 years ago you could buy decent jogging trousers that you don’t have to peel on and off. You know - the kind of things that men are allowed to wear. I absolutely think the running leggings that are now ubiquitous are designed so men can look at our bodies, but it’s not a choice that i have made: it’s impossible to buy ‘normal’ running joggers anymore.

This: it's infuriating the lack of normal, simple, comfy options for women!

felissamy · 06/09/2024 08:16

Revelation! I had been noticing arses myself lately on young women...like very prominent and distinctive and now I understand it is result of some sort of fabric technology. Whether men should or should be looking etc, dunno, but the bums did catch my eye, so certainly eyecatching!

Agree! I’ve seen some shocking sights recently, but then again it’s hopefully just a fashion phase and it will pass.

Anyone who is wearing see-through leggings with no underwear underneath is probably not going to the gym to workout! That's not gym gear

Disgusting and surely these men much know what’s happening!
Have a word with the teacher and ask them to speak to these men and tell them to dress appropriately.

I find M&S has quite a wide variety of different styles.

Thanks @Itsjustmeheretoday
I'm not sure what was supposedly misogynistic in my post, so I've asked.

Caiti19 · 06/09/2024 08:22

I live in leggings in "ordinary time". I do not run, but I like walking. Even if I was sitting all day, no other clothing item in the world is as comfortable, it's like a second skin. I think I went into them in first pregnancy and never came out of them again. Not all leggings are created equal though. I think the ones with the arse crunch are complete cringe.

Not2identifying · 06/09/2024 08:24

Somebody upthread used the word 'baboon' which is exactly right. The kind of leggings many of us are commenting on could be called 'baboon leggings'.
