Well it was a lot shorter than the Barclays scam that went on for days even when I told them I was in oncology having chemo they scammed £9000 out of me and, thanks to you lot I got it back. This time he called asking if I paid for postage from Evri in reply to an email Evri sent saying they couldn’t deliver. I went into that email and filled it all in but never paid the delivery. He told me it was a scam and they need to send me a new card. I said well the parcel has still turned up and I’m not interested in a new card I use my phone anyway and I will call you back. His reply? F you and put the phone down. Honestly, they are relentless.

I've sometimes told them I can't help because I'm dead and then hung up

I just say' sound great. let me get a pen', place the phone down without hanging up and then never go back to it.

Edited

So your phone is still off the hook? 😋

needsomewarmsunshine · 04/09/2024 16:25

As I always say to dm if you don’t engage with the phone call whatever the result you’ll get your money back, so always say ‘thank you for informing me I’ll get my dc to ring my bank.’

I had a phone call from virgin media recently doing the “annual customer check” aka upselling where they want to check I’m happy with my package and try to convince me to get a better one.

Generally they are desperate to get you onto a contract. They really hate it when you can tell them to shove it with no loss to yourself.

We don't get any calls from them because I mislaid our landline.

Most effective way to prevent scam calls is to have phone to only ring for contact numbers. They never leave a message. A few people have said "what it it's a doctor trying to contact you ?" my my answer is just "Well, then they can learn what it feels like too."

Yup - I also work on the principle that if its important enough, they will find you.

Yes - keep them hanging on so they can't bother others.

MtClair · 04/09/2024 16:27

I had one that wwent
’Good morning we are <not understandable name>. I understand you have solar panels on your roof.
Hmm sorry, who are you? I didn’t catch that.
Yes Sir, we are <still not understandable name>
Im not a Sir…’
Guy Hangs up 😂😂😂

Dfg15 · 04/09/2024 16:29

I get the loft insulation ones regularly, I tell them I don't have a loft as I live in a cave.

Isometimeswonder · 04/09/2024 16:30

Irrelevant... but I read the title as CHEESE bank.

NoTouch · 04/09/2024 16:34

I had one that called me a string of obscenities in a low threatening voice including a "motherf*er". Explained to him that was probably physically impossible as I didn't have the equipment, he then threated to do something unpleasant to me which I replied saying that sounded rather uncomfortable and if he didn't mind I'd pass on that one. He hung up first.

My favourite was one who phoned my mums house while about 10 of us were visiting. We had them talk to every single one of us, as someone either never understood the accent, or the details, or you need to speak to my wife, or sorry need to go to loo I'll put on you to.......before they gave up.

IWouldRatherBeOnHoliday · 04/09/2024 16:42

I think you should amend the title, Chase Bank didn't say this to you, a scammer did!

Demonhunter · 04/09/2024 16:44

If you ever answer to scammers just do something bizarre and they get annoyed and hang up. I used to speak in Spanish but not I just say "I don't speak English" in English and keep repeating that. They just hang up in annoyance haha.

LlynTegid · 04/09/2024 16:47

I liked the response to the 'what if it is the doctor' question.

Tamrastarr · 04/09/2024 16:47

Apparently they get bits and pieces of information from you and then piece it together. I got a call from someone pretending to be from Santander and I have an account with them. I was ill and in bed, so a bit confused anyway, but I got up to check some things. He was asking me for personal information so in the end I said "Well, you should know that if you're from Santander". He then got a bit rude with me, so I was suspicious. I said " you are acting like this is my fault" and he said "yes, yes it is! Its's all your fault!" I then realised it was a scam and I had given him a few bits of info. I called my bank and they said this is exactly what they do, they would now know my phone number and that I had a Santander account.

Also, watch out if you give negative feedback on a Company's Instagram page. There are scammers that trawl these pages, looking for unhappy customers. They then create an account pretending they are from Customer Services and contact you via Instagram pretending they are going to refund you. This inevitably leads to them getting personal information from you and scamming you!

This happened to a company I worked for (I wasn't involved thankfully). After that I would never, ever post anything online about which bank I'm with.

Chase? From Paw Patrol, oh I love him.
Do you have a costume? Skye has a crush on you I’m sure. Now which is your favourite episode, tell me and I’ll tell you mine.

My elderly dm tells people that her house is rented, there is no kitchen and she cooks on a camping stove under the stairs.
One day it won’t be scammers it will be ss and the whole thing will blow up in her face. 😂

My son answered to them in French.
Apparently that always confuses the hell out of them!

The problem is that real banks do phone them immediately ask for information. Mine did this the other day. It felt a bit wrong as they'd phoned me and immediately said they need to run a security check, what's my address, date of birth, phone number, previous surname etc. It was a genuine (although unexpected) call about a mortgage application. They didn't ask for any account numbers or pins though.

He was saying that my card had been used fraudulently and asking me if I had my pinsentry. The real Santander guy said if I had've put my card in and entered the code the scammers may have been able to access my account! The terrible thing is, if the scammer hadn't started getting impatient and rude with me, I might've gone along further. He just started to sound unprofessional and that rang the alarm bells.

I am pretty tech savvy and work in finance so I was shocked that I was almost caught out.

The funny thing is, my elderly mother can't and won't use on-line banking so she will never get caught out in this way! But now they're closing her branch! Sometimes change is not for the best

Commenting on any public page will open you to scams

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/09/2024 17:01

Wasn't there one episode of Scam Interceptors where they were really worried about a confused elderly gentleman who was on the brink of losing thousands. They's been at him for hours and the only reason they hadn't scammed him yet was because he was getting into such a state that he couldn't do what they were demanding.

Rav (the presenter) eventually managed to get a call through to him. The elderly gentleman was a sharp as a knife. He'd known all along that they were scammers, said he was bored and was enjoying wasting their time, knowing they couldn't bother anyone else while they were tied up with him. Legend!

Chuckling about the fella calling himself Barbara. 😆

Maybe he was the driver for Babs Cabs off League of Gentlemen.

I speak to them in my home language, they get fed up and hang up.
