How many times a day do you fart?

Lighthearted but also serious in the sense that I cannot fathom the sheer amount of LOUD botty burps I do.
my mother says I’ve always been a gassy baby but I must fart at least 20 big loud ones a day with little normal ones inbetween.
they aren’t slippery light ones, I’m talking dense lean on cheek to rid my body of this evil ones.
Is there anyone else out there like me? I don’t have any diagnosed allergies and I’ve been checked for celiac/ gluten nothing came back abnormal.
I feel like a lava lamp right now, like my farts accumulate into giant wax bubbles and if I don’t force them out they will bubble into one giant one.
My apologies for being vulgar but genuinely is this normal?

Same. Shame. At least 20 too and some could lift the roof tiles. And now I’m 52 it’s happening more and more often out of my control! I’ve farted as I’ve wiggled towards the loos at work at least half a dozen times. It’s awful.

timetodecide2345 · 04/09/2024 04:34

Yep me. I did Zoe recently and my gut health was very good. I had always wondered if poor gut biome was a cause but not so.

TheNoonBell · 04/09/2024 08:04

It depends on what I eat but I can rip out some great ones after beans or pickled cabbage.

Me too! I fart so much. I don’t really know why, it started after I had dc2 17 years ago and it’s just got worse. I’m 56.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 04/09/2024 08:07

Used to be absolutely loads but I have IBS. It’s decreased a lot since I started taking mounjaro for weight loss though

stealthninjamum · 04/09/2024 08:09

I wonder if it’s a menopausal thing. I’ve definitely noticed a difference in the last couple of years and I haven’t really changed my diet.

shellyleppard · 04/09/2024 08:10

I try and let out a quiet one but it really really really rips!!! Also they smell like cabbage..... which I've not eaten since last Christmas 🤣 on a serious note I've always been a gasser, its a family failing

MissyB1 · 04/09/2024 08:12

Since menopause started it's almost non stop! 😩

Summerishere123 · 04/09/2024 08:12

Depends what I have eaten. Most days not much. I do have days though where it doesn't stop!

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/09/2024 08:16

Several times probably. I usually have a good deflation first thing and last thing, and probably another couple of standard guffs throughout the day. I'd guess I'm averagely gassy.

OldTinHat · 04/09/2024 08:28

Me too! I'm 53. When I sat up this morning to get out of bed, I didn't need to lift my sheets as my backside lifted them about a foot off the bed 😆 Then, I head off to the bathroom accompanied by a trumpet with every step.

I'm so glad I live on my own...

GrandesRandonnees · 04/09/2024 08:35

Yes, similarly afflicted here, worse if I spend the day sitting (wfh so this is most days). Worse after lunch. I also hail from a farty family so genetics may be at play. Suspect I might have a mild gluten intolerance which won’t help but equally beans and brassicas set me off. 47 and perimenopausal.

Edit to say I’m also glad I live alone although I’ve frightened the cat a few times.

Gingercatlover · 04/09/2024 08:36

Apples seem to cause this for me, I have stopped eating them.

DonaldJohnTrump · 04/09/2024 08:42

It's just continuously with me. Bigly. Everytime I open my mouth.

It's how I got my name.

ultraviolet4753 · 04/09/2024 08:44

What food and drink does your diet consist of?

BlastedPimples · 04/09/2024 08:44

Loads since I started drinking kefir in my morning smoothie.

I'm assuming it's not a bad thing.

Loads. I take after my mother, who was basically accompanied by an invisible brass band everywhere she went.

Cheers, mum.

TheChosenTwo · 04/09/2024 08:56

Depends on what I’ve been eating and drinking. Onions, garlic and beer are catalysts for me!

Eggscellent · 04/09/2024 09:08

I used to a lot until I accidentally gave up gluten. I was trying a Mediterranean diet, so I reduced my bread and beer intake. Once I went back to something more normal for me, they came back! Gluten is now off the menu (after I had the tests for allergies vs IBS). I am searching for further trigger foods, and the next to go is most likely dried onion and garlic!

Gastropod · 04/09/2024 09:10

Almost never since I stopped eating carbs. Turned out it wasn't the vegetables at all.

EBearhug · 04/09/2024 09:12

Absolutely no idea, but it does depend on what I've been eating and stress levels.

I fart an immense amount. I counted over 60 on Saturday before I gave up. It's really starting to interfere with my life. I can often feel gas bubbling violently in my colon trying to force it's way out and it's so loud in my intestines, it's quite embarrassing at work. And then I often have to keep my bum cheeks clenched to stop it escaping.

This started after I had the mirena coil put in weirdly

hildabaker · 04/09/2024 09:24

I know that farting is natural but in some cases it might be worth testing to see if you have H Pylori if it feels excessive.
