That's the thing with serial name changers, they know you and tell you as much but you can't know them back (if that makes sense)

We must have joined at around the same time @CassieMaddox it was definitely trial by fire back then on here, but the vibe is definitely different now.

Up until 2 years ago I think I had been deleted twice- once for calling a would be hunt saboteur a cunt for planning to hide in bushes and jump out at horses to scare them. I accept that calling them a cunt wasnt in the spirit of mnet, but would stand be my opinion (and reworded it at the time). I also word carefully most of the time.

Over the last 2 years I've been deleted many more times for much more innocuous posts, and in one case, something I had been typing for years on a particular subject. It appears robust debate is not welcomed in some quarters.

I agree, I am also having to word things very carefully. Which is sad.

CassieMaddox · 13/09/2024 11:54

I think its people reporting based on the words of the policy, not the spirit.

The words say "use the same courtesy when posting messages on Talk as you would use when speaking to someone face to face."

Thats actually quite hard to moderate. I'm quite robust irl as well 😂

Same. I've been here 15 years, never been deleted til the last couple and in the last few months I've been temp banned a few times.

It's really frustrating, I think not name changing means posters recognise the name and are a bit quicker to report when they are offended.

Would hate to be a moderator though, as it must get really tough.

Totally agree but 19 years here. The old place ain't the same....

You forgot to include Reform 😀 Where's their seismic shift in British politics ?

PandoraSox · 13/09/2024 12:13

I have definitely been targeted by certain posters in the past and been suspended because of them. I choose my words carefully now too and haven't been deleted very often since doing so.

CassieMaddox · 13/09/2024 12:31

I was so fed up with the last ban I nearly didn't come back, but I missed this thread too much. I don't get to geek out about politics as much IRL and also I get a lot of info from here ❤

Notonthestairs · 13/09/2024 12:55

Flipping heck.

"The Government spent more than £79m fighting legal challenges against the Home Office in 2023 — more than in the previous three years combined."

www.politicshome.com/news/article/government-spent-eighty-million-fighting-legal-cases-home-office-last-year

The Home Office spent well over half a billion pounds on temporary staff in the last two years as it tried to tackle a backlog in asylum applications.
The department spent £269.9m in agency fees last year, according to its latest annual accounts. The figure is a slight rise on the £254.2m recorded the year before, meaning well over half a billion pounds have been spent in the last two years.

Extraordinary given they stopped processing asylum applications after the Illegal Migration Act.

Notonthestairs · 13/09/2024 12:57

I think I've only been deleted for referring to (IMO) corrupt charlatans. Have had to close my laptop and walk away quite a bit though 😁

I have gone back to lurking quite a bit and offer some support via the thanks function Smile

That is a lot of money wasted on an empty slogan

I don’t imagine anyone is surprised.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2024 16:14

Hello!

I'm here! Never been deleted !

I've had a lot on my plate and feel generally stressed so trying not to additionally process politics but follow along.

I am in for an operation next week to have my gallbladder removed. Not looking forward to this but do have two weeks afterwards to hopefully read, watch Downton Abbey right from the start (never watched it!) and admire people's cats.

Happy to report the NHS have been very efficient and helpful with me. They sped up my care by Wes Streeting me to a private consultant. I feel conflicted about this as I don't believe really that it cuts queues. But if it stops me presenting at A and E approximately once a month that will ease pressure elsewhere in the system.

BustingBaoBun · 13/09/2024 16:29

Goodu luck piggy.
If it's any consolation, my friend's daughter had her gallbladder removed and it was fairly effortless so I hope the same for you

Alexandra2001 · 13/09/2024 16:40

I was originally permanently banned, it was just after Brexit time but MN accepted my plea of temporary insanity brought about by extreme external circumstance.

Learnt how to word stuff differently and not react, if things get personal, i just remove the thread now.

BIossomtoes · 13/09/2024 16:59

Hopefully your gallbladder excision will be as easy as mine was @Piggywaspushed. And I had two BIG stones. This is one of them.

Lordy!

I apparently have one, which is 3cm.

Piggywaspushed · 13/09/2024 17:03

Cat pics are nicer!!

SerendipityJane · 13/09/2024 17:04

I've had a couple of warnings - I must admit even I'm surprised it's that few😀. However my ban came from what was a moment of madness when I reminded people in a thread it was the school holidays. I guess it was deserved, and I usually use "report" silently, rather than in thread.

Otherwise Thumper applies. (Although I did think it was Eleanor Roosevelt - and checking that out was certainly not wasted time )
