It's just more Keir's beer and Angela's council house, reeks of desperation.

I have a question.

The Guardian hated Corbyn. It seems to hate Starmer too as it really focuses on negative stories. What do you all think?

Guardian has never claimed to be a Labour supporting paper contrary to popular opinion - was always a Liberal voice

Just more left-leaning than almost ALL the rest of the press

I’m sure it’s nice that we are now bothered about parliamentary expenses claims but it’s a bit like when the media suddenly decided parliamentary standards were important. It only seems to apply to one party.

Can’t take anyone seriously who hasn’t been calling this out for the last decade.

Planning approvals at 10 year low -

"Builders blame the drop on the decision by the former government to drop binding housing targets for local authorities. Labour has now reversed that move, but experts say much more will be needed to hit the government’s target of 1.5m new homes over the parliament – a pledge that the prime minister has put at the centre of his plan to boost growth."

www.theguardian.com/society/2024/sep/19/new-home-planning-approvals-in-england-fall-to-lowest-level-in-a-decade

The target will not be met.

There are at least one million dwellings in the UK used either as second homes or for holiday lets. The vast majority could become full time houses or flats. Then there is long term empty often ground floor commercial premises that could become residential properties.

Tackle this and you can get a good way towards the number of extra houses tor flats, especially in places such as Cornwall or north Wales.

James O'Brien

Incredible response to Nigel Farage taking calls on LBC this morning.

So Sue Grey is actually doing the same job as Cummings and Case, but being paid less than them? Hmm What's the gender pay gap for top civil servants?

No wonder the BBC news reporters come out with such bollocks, it must be exhausting trying to stay relevant and justify an exorbitant salary, paid for by the public.

BIossomtoes · 19/09/2024 13:53

Probably not the same job. I’d put money on her working a lot harder than Cummings did. Didn’t May have two chiefs of staff? I bet they weren’t each paid less than half of Sue Gray’s salary.

Notonthestairs · 19/09/2024 13:55

Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill were paid £140k in 2016 as Theresa May's chiefs of staff, which would be £187k now adjusted for inflation....

Timothy is now a Conservative MP.

I know. He's mine. The drop in pay must be a shock to him.

BIossomtoes · 19/09/2024 14:07

I expect Timothy had a few lean years after he was fired. His new MP salary and expenses is probably a welcome uplift.

A look at his wiki shows he wasn’t exactly unemployed. These threads are comical.

DuncinToffee · 19/09/2024 15:12

Glad they make you laugh derxa, our pleasure

The swiss cheese thread is nearing the end, has HH been put on the 'naughty step'?

Thanks, I hadn't noticed, and we haven't even reached the conferences yet

Title ideas anyone?

How about "whose conference is it anyway?" As we're already into LD conference and the others will follow soon enough.

No more physical party conferences would be no bad thing, if all the allegations of male predatory behaviour at them are true.

Agree.

Made me giggle 🤭

Notonthestairs · 19/09/2024 15:51

Urgh. I know why political parties need conferences but I find the coverage boring as hell. It's an awful lot of backslapping tediousness.

And aside from a couple of the big speeches the Media largely concentrate on finding the wackiest weirdest fringe events and then report them as if they are mainstream.

They really should be contained within one of the recess periods - heaven knows we could do with maximising opportunities for parliamentary committees and debates.

DuncinToffee · 19/09/2024 16:18

Farage tellsLBC that he has been advised not to hold surgeries in Clacton due to fears over his safety.

Farage says he is not allowing the public to "flow through his office with knives" in response to whether he is meeting constituents.

The Speaker’s Office and Parliament’s security team have no recollection of telling Nigel Farage that he should not hold in-person surgeries in his constituency, the PA news agency understands."

So predictable. Wants the kudos and money without the work.
