The Tories took another £5m donation from Hester just before the election was called.

So he gave the Conservatives £15 million? Or is this in addition to that and he's spent £20 million in total?
Mind boggling sums from a single business owner.

I heartily agree @CassieMaddox about the NHS faffing about with blood test appointments. A common experience of mine has been to have blood tests recommended by the GP, go back to the receptionist for an appointment - which is usually for around a fortnight, the nurse won't manage to get a needle in and will tell me to make an appointment with a GP to get it done. I know GP's are the most expensive part of the clinic machinery but why don't they just whip out their blood test pack while you're there and get it done in about 1 minute? Then you phone the receptionist for the results and they phone the gp to ask if you need an appointment to discuss the results.

Then there's the new appointment system, as previously discussed here. Once I got a same day appointment to have a funny skin blob checked. Because it's the same day or nothing if they've used up their appointments. It was nothing. While some poor person who actually is ill goes unseen till the next day they manage to get through on the phone.

Then there's the problem of hospital pharmacies not managing to get patients from the islands their prescriptions before their flight . So they have to stay in hospital for another day, or the whole weekend if it's a Friday. And chemo nurses having to waste time going to the pharmacy to chase up chemo prescriptions so the patient can get their treatment that day before they close for the evening.

And these are just the things I know about.....

NHS report - the Conservatives are annoying already

It's the tone that annoys me.

Like it's all labours fault things are broken and they haven't done a thing to fix them either.

I get challenging from the opposition - they should. But it needs to be constructive rather than just a blame game for their mistakes and a blame game for not fixing 14 years of their mistakes in less than 14 weeks.

I was at PMQ's yesterday and saw Mr Farage up close after the speaker came through .

cardibach · 12/09/2024 16:04

That must have been unpleasant for you @Elodie9
Are you feeling better today?

I’m jealous of you going to PMQs though. Something I’d like to do.

Double checked my own question 😁

Heater has given £20 million to the Conservatives (so far). That last £5 million was given a few days before the election was called.

I was mildly amused that while Farage was jeered openly asking his "question" the Express managed to reverse ferret into "cries of 'shame' as Farage tears into Starmer".

He, Tice and Anderson are wasting what precious time they have for parliamentary questions on grandstanding.

Elodie9 · 12/09/2024 16:19

@Apolloneuro Thank you .
@SerendipityJane In the public gallery you have to behave , but Mr Farage's question caused a lot of raised eyebrows and shrugged shoulders around about us.
Two tier policing was mentioned.
Later on when the Secretary of State was talking about the steel deal for Port Talbot I thought he explained it really well.
For the purposes of balance I have had a look at the Conservative take on it.
Very strange.

Our GP doesn't do blood tests. Everyone goes to a hospital clinic.
Must save surgeries loads of time. Phlebotomists are also much better at taking blood.

At last we're getting a Public Inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane. Hilary Benn announced it today.

I remember the fear, panic and sadness in my community when it happened.

I’m very glad this is finally happening TooBigForMyBoots

dontcallmelen · 12/09/2024 18:59

Ooh well & truly busted.

Elodie9 · 12/09/2024 19:18

@cardibach Much better today, thank you for asking.
I just wrote to my MP for tickets . He was happy to meet up with us beforehand but I really could not do that. He is famous in our area for photo ops and not much else! I politely declined. I loved the experience and was delighted that Sir Keir was there . If you can travel cardibach I would absolutely recommend it.
Later on I went to the Portrait gallery so apart from travel costs it was a great , inexpensive London day out.
@CassieMaddox While we were waiting for the speaker to arrive I was chatting with someone rather fabulous who was in the Senned for a very long time, and they said to me , he doesn't really drink beer much which confirmed something I'd read earlier about his love of a good red wine and a fine cigar ! Daisy Cooper was helping someone in the waiting area , (no cameras on her, ) she is gorgeous and seemed as lovely as I always think she comes across on tv.

DuncinToffee · 12/09/2024 19:21

Sounds like a great day out Elodie9

I think I'm very fortunate with my GP practice: never have difficulty getting through; can get a telephone appointment within a day (slightly longer if you want a specific GP); GP will arrange to see you quickly if required but often not necessary; can get a face-to-face appointment within a week if preferred (again, slightly longer if you want to see a specific GP).

Nurse or phlebotomy appointments are within a week - either at the practice or at a (local) hub.

"Our" GP is now senior partner. We've been seeing him for over 30 years - so we are now worrying about the fact that he'll be retiring soon (he must've been newly qualified when we registered with him). But at least the rest of the GPs in the practice will have been in part trained and/or recruited by him.

He started doing telephone appointments about 10 years ago so was ahead of the curve.

All my recent experiences of A&E recently (with ds' girlfriend) have been positive, as has dh's recent total hip replacement (12 weeks ago tomorrow).

This is central Glasgow, so at least I don't have the problems that rural patients face.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/09/2024 19:56

Mine isn’t as good as it was but still better than many I read about. I do need to make an appointment but I can’t be arsed with the faffing about. I just need a non urgent appointment to see my GP but suspect it might be weeks rather than what used to be 1-2.

Not sure how Starmer is plannng on treating more stuff in the community given the current shortage of GPs. Had better not be PAs.

pointythings · 12/09/2024 20:06

Ours is good. Had a screwup with DS' repeat prescription which he needed before going back to uni today - he can't be unmedicated, he needs his antidepressants. We had one of those online repeat things going and they screwed up so we called the dispensary and they issues immediately.

I really hope hospital estate gets some light shed on it. The wilful underinvestment and neglect under the Tories have fully scuppered productivity. An example from my Trust: We have a ward which provides highly specialised treatment for personality disorders. We admit from nationwide, there is a waiting list and our outcomes are absolutely bloody stellar. The ward brings in revenue for the Trust.

We can't fully utilise it because the building is in such a state that the roof is leaking and the plumbing causes health hazard level blowback in some of the bathrooms. We can currently admit only 8 patients out of a possible 16 if the building were adequately maintained, and those 8 are going to have to be moved for at least 6 months because we have finally got the capital funding for the repairs.

So we are losing 8 lots of revenue.
We cannot employ and upskill the staff who would then go on to benefit the NHS.
We cannot offer the specialist training places for junior doctors and psychologist, both trainee and under preceptorship.
An innovative and effective service cannot work at capacity,

Thanks, Tories.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/09/2024 20:19

Yes. Loads of the estate probably still has RAAC issues too.

Adequate staffing, not running at full capacity all year round and decent ventilation to prevent hospital acquired covid would be a worthwhile investment IMO.

Alexandra2001 · 12/09/2024 20:52

Have to admit, i'm struggling with the "Reform first, not extra money until thats done" from KS.
Reform and new tech costs an awful lot up front before they'd be any increase in productivity.

But i'm sure they realise this......

My interest is when and what they intend to do about Dentistry.
