The thing is, politically, it is a time-related strategy. The Labour party have to show that they're doing something, fairly soon, so that they can own stuff for themselves, and not just blame their predecessors.

Hopefully the next few months, along with the budget, they will succeed with that. <crosses fingers>

BIWI · 07/09/2024 10:33

... we should never be allowed to forget what the Tories did, obviously, but that narrative needs to become secondary to TLP's (hopefully!) achievements.

Indeed. I’ll be glad when the Budget’s happened, the speculation is getting more wild all the time.

Tory leadership details

I'd missed this astonishing Tory leadership rule. The ability to extract huge sums from party benefactors tells us nothing about the candidates' ability to be prime minister or leader of the opposition. But it ensures they'll begin their leadership in thrall to wealthy donors.

I'm really not sure about LK at all.

Sorry for your loss Laura Flowers

Prime miserable, as well as prime minister?

Jesus Laura. Get a job at the Mail if you want to write shit like that.

BustingBaoBun · 07/09/2024 11:02

I am confused as to how LK can write an article like this? I thought that BBC political presenters are supposed to be impartial.

This, taken from the BBC statement on Impartiality

The external activities and public comments, for example on social media, of staff, presenters and others who contribute to our output can also affect perceptions of the BBC’s impartiality

I feel a letter of complaint coming on...

My son (not a Labour voter) was telling me yesterday about Cooper deporting illegal Brazilians and already deporting more illegal immigrants than the Tories managed. So that suggests some of what Labour are doing is cutting through

Shock Is it any wonder they end up with such odd leaders?
Zonder · 07/09/2024 13:24

Is that kind of money normal? Is it what happened in previous leadership election bids? Or in other parties?

I mean obviously the Reform leadership bid was purely financial/ who owned the most shares, but other parties?

prettybird · 07/09/2024 14:19

That will be a useful bung to their deteriorating party finances WinkHmm

prettybird · 07/09/2024 14:20

...that was supposed to include the quote about Conservative leadership candidates effectively having to pay the party to continue in the race Shock

pointythings · 07/09/2024 14:43

I don't see how anyone can look at the current Tory party with these rules on finances and think 'yep, there goes a party with integrity who can clearly be trusted with the public finances'. The mind just boggles.

The telegraph seem to have got to the point where they are all but printing Starmer is going to personally rob pensioners at gunpoint 🙄

I think my friend's friend must read the Telegraph.

"That Keir Starmer... he'll take everything you know. Everything we've got. It's the end of the world now Labour's in, I tell you..." 🙄

The bad news for Boris is he's been had. Thorium is where it's at now. Maybe he could advertise on Truth:Social ?

ShockShockShock

No doubt someone will be along shortly to tell us there is no issue with talking to Iranian nuclear entrepreneurs with offshore accounts while you are PM without recording it, and then joining their company and filling it with your pals when you leave office.

Also - wondered what Bannon was up to.

Jeepers.

It would suit an awful lot of the Industrial Military complex if Iran had nuclear weapons. Makes the case for increased US spending (in their companies) all the stronger.

Eisenhower - bless his cotton socks - did warn us.

Comments on this video are very interesting.

I guess the most obvious reason is that - as someone noted - she has been on Boris' staff

Checking in very late. Been under the weather the past few days & wasted energy fruitlessly arguing about VAT (have now stepped away). Dont think the budget can come soon enough - fed up of the frenzied speculation

They're still at it. Next stop High Court. Not quite sure how judge say "fuck off" these days.

We all know at the (dead)end of this journey, these "warriors" will have spent more on legal fees then they ever would VAT. If only lawyers counted towards GDP.

Gorgeous sunflower
My tomatoes are still green due to the shocking lack of sun this year. Really annoying cos I have some huge beefsteak ones but they just aren't ripening

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2024 11:02

The VAT threads are mostly started by 1 poster, maybe they get paid by word Confused

There is a crowdfund for that case
