Feel so ill I’m scared

Daffodils9 · 01/09/2024 18:18

Started Tues just gone. Can’t type much as so exhausted but frightened now. I’ve been seriously ill (hospital) twice before in my life and this feels like that but I can’t point to why exactly.
Fever, chills, intermittent muscle and joint pain, stomach pain, sore chest, breathlessness, cough, nausea and vomiting. Vomiting had stopped after the first couple of days but has come back today even though I’ve eaten virtually nothing for five days (handful of dry cereal, a cracker, etc.)
So completely exhausted and weak. Can’t sit up.

I’ve done three covid tests and they’re all negative. I’m vaxxed and boosted. The constant fever is worrying me - it comes down to 38/37.9 with paracetamol but never lower and never for more than half an hour so I am raging with it day and night.

I feel utterly desperate. We decided not to ring 111 today as I simply couldn’t cope with travelling an hour to our out of hours. We live rurally. I’m trying to make it to morning and hoping more local gp can see me.

Husband is worried and he doesn’t get worried by stuff like this usually. I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this. If flu how long before there is some respite? If not that then what? I am wondering about pneumonia or something?

Things are much the same. If I alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen I can control the temperature and that stops me vomiting but over night when I’m asleep for a longer period temp goes back up. Still not eating though I try tiny bites of things. Keeping fluid down. Exhausted. Can’t get out of bed. Temp was 39.5 this morning. We did fill the prescription so I am taking the antibiotics now.
The fear seems to be linked to the fever so that is better when my temp is under control.
I’m just telling myself it’s flu perhaps with a chest infection on top (never mind what the doctor said) and that I will get there eventually. It’s just awful - can’t work, can’t care for my children, can’t stand up to shower.

Are you weeing? That's a sign of sepsis. Dizzy spells? Rash? The fever mixed with sickness is worrying.

MandUs · 04/09/2024 14:27

So you haven't been eating for over a week now and been this unwell? How much are you drinking and peeing?

Even if this isn't sepsis, I think you should go to A&E. I'm a nurse in an acute admissions unit and I would bet money on you being quite dehydrated at this point, probably needing IV fluids at least. You could also end up with an electrolyte imbalance causing you heart arrhythmias. An acute kidney injury can also happen with dehydration. It sounds like your body is really struggling with whatever it is you have and might need a bit of support to recover.

Can you ask the dr to do a blood test to check for infection? It's very quick and results take about 5 minutes.

3luckystars · 04/09/2024 16:02

Id say you have pneumonia. You need to see a doctor in person today, however you manage it.

Deargodletitgo · 04/09/2024 16:12

I had very similar symptoms, but less vomiting. So breathless though I couldn't talk, and pain on the side of my ribs. Fever. Thought it was a virus, as did GP. An x-ray a week later showed a blood clot on my lungs. I'd seek a second opinion

Cranberry2020 · 04/09/2024 17:10

Please go to A&E. what’s the worst that could happen if you do? You might be sent home with no other diagnosis but maybe even some IV fluids and IV paracetamol might help. That said, I strongly suspect you might have a bacterial infection that needs treating and might need IV antibiotics. I really think you need properly assessing and people go for a lot less. Please go…

Tumbleweed101 · 04/09/2024 17:54

I'm reading this thread 4 days after you posted. You sounded awful then. Go to a&e and get a hospital doctors opinion on your current presentation. Did you take the antibiotics?

PoopedAndScooped · 04/09/2024 23:39

Go to the HOSPITAL ! CHRIST

Keep going back if nothing changes.

I'm not sure I'm understanding the reluctance to go to the hospital. You've not improved. You can't do very very basic things like standing up for a few minutes. You aren't able to adequately nourish and hydrate yourself. PLEASE go to the hospital.

DeCaray · 06/09/2024 14:30

At this stage I would agree with another poster who suggested that you have pneumonia.

You risk dying or damaging your lungs permanently.

SomeFinElse · 07/09/2024 14:22

How are you feeling now @Daffodils9 ? 💐

Lucybeary · 07/09/2024 17:27

I've just jumped back on as I saw notifications. Daffodils9 I haven't read all of this but if you are anxious about going to hospital, please just go. This is coming from someone with severe health anxiety and inability to do anything about it. But when I had near sepsis last year, once I got treatment I started feeling better quickly and calmer and the anxiety left as I gained in strength. Please take care of yourself and all you have to do is get there. Then you can kick back and let them do the rest while you start to get stronger x

OfCourseItsMe · 09/09/2024 18:20

Hope you are starting to feel better now op Flowers

Finally! I'm so glad you're getting treatment.

Daffodils9 · 10/09/2024 18:16

Picture is unclear but I have a lot of good stuff going in - oxygen, fluids, antibiotics, steroids, etc. Am being very closely monitored and am quite poorly.
