This is properly strange. Sounds to me like the continued Elf-on-a-shelfication of our lives, where every stage of the year has to be ‘celebrated’ with a whole new bunch of junk from Temu. Leave the year alone - what did it ever do to you?

RavenhairedRachel · 02/09/2024 17:53

Is this another stupid ritual from America. Or is it a retail invention to tide the shops over before Christmas ?

Thriftnugget · 02/09/2024 17:54

TheCultureHusks · 01/09/2024 13:35

I’m doing it today, the repainting should be finished but my new pumpkin-coloured sofa and the rest of the furniture won’t come til tomorrow alas

Brilliant 😂😂 Are you swapping out the charcoal grill for the winter range cooker yet, or do you leave that till later in the season?

TheDogsMother · 02/09/2024 17:54

Is this something else I need to add to the never ending list ? Decorating for Autumn ????

PurpleYarnivore · 02/09/2024 17:55

I know loads of people who decorate for Autumn , the shops are full of leaf wreaths and pumpkins . I love autumn and as a knitter make and sell loads of knitted pumpkins at this time of year .

Honeyyyy · 02/09/2024 17:57

Done yesterday!
I absolutely love autumn and have always loved it and it is a family thing my grandparents used to do... We lived on a farm and we used flowers and pumpkins to make nice displays.
That's not really a thing any more but I love making house cosy for my favourite autumn months....

Oh (sigh) another American idea we can do without…

DiscoBeat · 02/09/2024 17:58

The only thing I do is put a new fresh hop bine above the fireplace and wrap fairy lights around it. Then a few Halloween things nearer the time.

Stirmish · 01/09/2024 13:23

Is this an American thing ?

Yes I think so, although in our droughty house, my mum had winter curtains for some huge windows when I was a child.

What’s wrong with celebrating the different seasons?

Oh (sigh) another post completely missing the point of the thread

Southener · 02/09/2024 18:01

Oh lord, is this a thing? I was just thinking I really can't be arsed doing my bi-annual shoe swapover... clearly I am failing at life.

I’m guessing you are in North America. It’s not really a thing elsewhere!

Nothing at all. Crack on.

BackInTheBay · 02/09/2024 18:14

We decorated our house for autumn today. We always do it just before the kids go back to school, before we all get busier after the summer break.

We know loads of people that do it. I'm not American or on Instagram. 🍂 🍁 🎃

It's funny that it seems to trigger some people so much.

NannaKaren · 02/09/2024 18:15

Whenever you wish ! Your place your rules…😊

BunnyLake · 02/09/2024 18:15

Well I walked some leaves into the hallway as it was raining, so I guess I must have started autumn decor without realising.

BackInTheBay · 02/09/2024 18:20

It's definitely a thing where I am in England. Lots of people do it and the shops are full of autumn decorations. We have family and friends all over the U.K. and lots of them do it too.

Pliudev · 02/09/2024 18:22

Skip it. You've left it far too late. Surely your tree will be going up before the end of the month?

StMarieforme · 02/09/2024 18:22

I wouldn't have room to store the out of season things so no. I don't do this!

AnnieSnap · 02/09/2024 18:29

justflewinfromthewindycity · 02/09/2024 07:59

@Nannyfannybanny north east England right on the coast so cold wind in June here off the sea

My earlier post assumed you were in North American. I’m genuinely amazed that you live in North East England! I live there too and I have never come across this idea (let alone its implementation). I do light a nice smelling candle sometimes in autumn and winter, but decorate for the season? No!

Flipflops123 · 02/09/2024 18:30

Usually around the 21st of never

tommyhoundmum · 02/09/2024 18:30

Interesting concept but I do change the curtains for winter. So, anytime really as we are officially in autumn.

Jack80 · 02/09/2024 18:31

Halloween if that what you mean, the week of Halloween. I don't decorate for autumn.
