It's amazing the difference between North and South. I'm NE England and its 15 degrees and dull. It was 7 degrees on Thursday night.

I think there was one day earlier this summer, where it hit 25/26.

Mind, I'm not complaining.

That’s electric blanket weather for me 🤣

FFS, I don't even "decorate for" Christmas, let alone autumn 😂

Nor me 🙄
Somehow I’ve got to 70 years old without succumbing to fads like this yes, I’m a miserable old bat too

This has just reminded me that I need to change the hat box from summer hats to winter hats and gloves.

That's as far as my autumn decorating goes.

I don't even do that. Fuck me I just about manage to get through the day to day chores. How the fuck does anyone have time to "decorate for autumn"?

MoggyP · 01/09/2024 17:16

This has to be most environmentally unfriendly new "trend" I've read

I can see why it would appeal to people with more money than sense though.

Ready to bet that a lot of what is on SM is nudged along by companies who want to sell more stuff. Fool and money soon parted and all that

Shakenandstirredup · 01/09/2024 17:20

Curtains are ££££ though so I couldn’t have 2 pairs!

And pumpkins aren’t ready yet are they?

Georgyporky · 01/09/2024 17:22

My DM used to change the curtains for winter - I thought that was weird !
They weren't even heavier, just darker, i.e. gloomy, colours.

LadyLapsang · 01/09/2024 17:23

There is a cottage near me that has beautiful seasonal displays. However, today’s prize for seasonal strangeness should surely go to John Lewis with Santa Paws, for £22 per dog, you can take them to meet Santa in a special dog grotto.

Dita73 · 01/09/2024 17:25

I thought only Stacey Solomon did that. I couldn’t be arsed

We grow a couple in our garden and they are not ready yet.

TiramisuTastesDreamy · 01/09/2024 17:25

Sorry, what ? Didn’t know this was a thing (?) and shocked anyone has the time or inclination to do this. Seems like a big waste of money and effort but what do I know 😂

MotherOfUnicorns4 · 01/09/2024 17:26

I’ve started to do this the last few years. I love autumn and all things autumnal so decorate with things I’ve put away. It may seem tacky to some, but I had a horrendous childhood and used to fear Christmas, so now I’ve changed my traditions and start a build up. It starts with dragging the pumpkin decorations and what not out, then I decorate for Halloween, then I feel sort of ready for Christmas. For me it’s cosy and warm and it makes me feel better :).

Shakenandstirredup · 01/09/2024 17:27

I do use natural foliage around the house at Christmas & do decorate for Halloween but both are months away & it’s still warm in London.

Nofunforus · 01/09/2024 17:27

I do an autumn/harvest theme from mid September. Add some Halloween bits from 1 October then on 1 November change it all to Christmas decorations.

Tworedgeraniums · 01/09/2024 17:30

Gosh. Gloriously sunny here, windows still open, sun shinning, it’s still summer to me.

Is this an American thing ?

It's a "having too much time on your hands" thing.

Decorating for autumn? What fresh hell is this?

Not much it seems, as you can use natural things from the forest. 😅 You just need an eye for how to make it look beautiful. But tbf unless you live near a forest I appreciate it might not be a thing. I didn’t do it when I lived in London.

lovescats3 · 01/09/2024 17:38

I have a knitted tiny pumpkin that was given to me thatI might put out this year before Halloween as it seems a shame just to use it for a couple of days but I won't do that until October, hopefully September will have nice weather because summer weather arrived late this year

justflewinfromthewindycity · 01/09/2024 17:41

@niadainud how long do you think it takes to put a throw on the sofa /light a candle and a few decorations on the fire place ?
It's not a long process believe it or not

I had to look this up as I thought you might be joking:

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/dec/02/john-lewis-santa-paws-christmas-pet-grotto

"But it turns out that parents and children aren’t the only ones who want to have a face to face with Santa. Why should pets be deprived of this special experience, asked (some) dog owners?

"Why indeed. John Lewis started the Santa Paws Experience last year, and it is back by popular demand in nine of its shops. More than 500 tickets have been sold so far – up by a fifth from 2022."

Batshit.

Not very long I'm sure, although I couldn't be bothered with it myself. Like a PP, I can barely be arsed with Christmas decorations.

That said, I wouldn't count putting a throw on the sofa and lighting a candle as "decorating for autumn"...

WTAF? Is this Instagram crap? Social Influencers don't have any space in my life because I actually, you know, have a life with people and sports etc.

I don't even decorate for Christmas bar sticking a tree up at some point around 20th December.

It's 26 degrees here in the shade so Autumn is far from my mind!

Edited

Not for me, I manage to put out my Halloween/autumn candles, ceramic pumpkin and spooky mugs, without putting photos of them on Instagram!

I also find space in my life for sports, friends, work, hobbies etc etc AND being able to relax and smell my nice autumn candles and drink from my black cat mug! Crazy!

It's not a new trend. My incredibly frugal grandma changed curtains for spring/summer and autumn winter. A few cushions were recovered. Lots of people have said that on this thread.

What is a new trend, is trinkets that are likely thrown away each year.

Batshit but must be a great way to meet someone if you’re single tbf! I mean if they are there they already have something in common.
