How do you clear out your inbox when it's got to this state?

Clearly my ostrich approach isn't working 😆🪶

120,683 I've got

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/08/2024 09:12

Search for senders and delete in batches.

MavisPennies · 29/08/2024 09:13

Declare email bankruptcy and get a different email address?

Bringbackthedodo · 29/08/2024 09:13

If you're in Gmail, Search by key words (like shops you have emails from) select all, press and hold the circle on one of them, unsubscribe and report as spam, delete all. Do for everything.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 29/08/2024 09:13

As pp said - but don't forget to unsubscribe to websites as you go.

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/08/2024 09:14

Set up a folder call it something like 'backlog' or 'embarrassing number of old emails' and put everything there. Nice and clean empty inbox then.

In a while you can just delete the folder once you realise you don't need them

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/08/2024 09:15

How far do they go back? Because if it's been months, they are not worth thinking about.

And yes, keywords. My 57 is looking pretty good right now.

Plumpcious · 29/08/2024 09:16

Work email or personal account?

AlisonDonut · 29/08/2024 09:16

Are there any you actually need?

If not select all, as many as it will let you. And delete them.

I need to do mine soon.

cupcaske123 · 29/08/2024 09:17

On my email you can select 'not read' then press delete.

Threewheeler1 · 29/08/2024 09:18

I can't be bothered to clear mine. About 80,000 now.
I did start one day, but the boredom was too much and I decided Gmail would kindly take care of it for me eventually...
If not, I'm just going to wait for the internet to run out or my laptop to explode, whichever comes first.

overgrowntoddler · 29/08/2024 09:23

My emails are ok but my photosConfused

DoeIdea · 29/08/2024 09:23

Outlook lets you sweep emails which is brilliant - you select one, and all of them by that sender go where you decide!

But I've had it for over 20 years! It's vintage!

Like I say, vintage - it's Yahoo 🙈

I like this plan 🙌

Don’t delete them on your phone go into the actual service provider website or they’ll all just appear again

Presumably you'll have dealt with everything that actually needed dealing with? Even if you haven't, you'll get reminders. Delete everything and going forward, every single time you get spam emails, unsubscribe.

Bringbackthedodo · 29/08/2024 09:42

00BonneMaman00 · 29/08/2024 09:40

Like I say, vintage - it's Yahoo 🙈

It should still have similar functions. Or write it off and set up a Gmail.

Mark them as spam

Threewheeler1 · 29/08/2024 09:43

Re 'vintage', I realised an account I had was still linked to an old wanadoo address 😬
Took a bit off piffling about to sort that one!
(Come to think of it, there's probably some AOL related ones somewhere 😂...)

Work email or personal account?

If I had 17k unread work emails I’d hand in my notice!
