How do you clear out your inbox when it's got to this state?

Clearly my ostrich approach isn't working 😆🪶

My photos were out of control.

So I now spend a couple of minutes every day deleting. I do a search on the date (day and month) and this brings up all photos from the same date for every year. I then go through them and delete the duplicates, the multiple angles, those that I have no recollection of, etc.

I do it over my morning coffee so I start the day with a smile from the memories I've triggered.

One of the advantages of the days I work from home is being able to read and usually delete most emails without interruption.

unsync · 29/08/2024 17:06

Pop them all in archive. Mark all as read and then start again.

NomenNudum · 29/08/2024 18:17

I've started clearing through my backlog. I've just counted 11 sales emails from a purveyor of period pants in one month. For something you buy by definition once maybe once every couple of years. Insane.

If you're environmentally minded, think about the carbon generated by storing all of these thousands of emails on a server somewhere.

https://carbonliteracy.com/the-carbon-cost-of-an-email/

So yeah, it's not big or clever to be too lazy to delete or unsubscribe.

But they shouldn't be sending them in the first place.

I haven't consented and don't want them. Nor do I want to spend 'just 2 minutes a day' deleting them.

What's the point of producing something that isn't wanted and will be deleted without being read?

I have 169,470.

Do I win?

Edited to say, unread, obviously.

Edited

Nope, not quite 😀

@Bjorkdidit i have bad news for you.

  1. GDPR isn’t what you think it is
  2. it doesn’t apply to businesses outside the EU.
  3. UK is no longer in the eu and while we sort out the fucking mess fall out from Brexit, it seems all bets are off. I mean, where are you going to take your GDPR complaint.

The worst thing is most of these companies add trackers to emails so they know how many are being read and how many aren't and whether they end up in spam.

You're basically a baby. Keep at it! Please see attached image... I'm touching 75k and I don't plan to do a thing about it.

Last time I looked 169,000 was a larger number than 164,000.

Soz.

Oh, I wasn’t wearing my glasses and mis-read your number! In that case, I bow down to your greatness 😀

TeenToTwenties · 30/08/2024 06:14

I get panicked if I have more than 20 in my inbox in total, including read ones.
My inbox is for current/needs action.
Others get read and filed/deleted.

Ciri · 30/08/2024 06:24

I’m having a nightmare with mine. I’ve somehow managed to get onto various US Soam/bot accounts for right wing conspiracy theorists. I suspect someone has signed me up maliciously. I now get circa 100 a day. You can’t unsubscribe on them because it flags that’s it’s a real account so they just send more. I have apple mail so they won’t auto delete (or at least I can’t work out how to do it). The email addresses change daily so flagging them as junk only works to an extent. I still then have to go through and check the junk since I use the account for work stuff occasionally too ( new work via referral often comes ti that account). It causes massive stress. I have tens of thousands and can’t get it under control

ZedDead · 30/08/2024 06:25

Dp can't even look at my phone because I have so many red numbers on my apps

I currently have 24 missed calls and 36 calendar events I must have not done something with (goodness knows what)

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. It makes him run for the hills 😂. My email is a dog's dinner but it doesn't bother me at all. I have 5 email accounts (1 work, 1 my own company, 3 old personal ones) and they all sit there accumulating mail quite happily

Backfromhols · 30/08/2024 06:52

I’ve got 180k in my personal account…I don’t delete stuff, just find the important ones by “searching” when I need them. It’s enough for me to maintain my work email which receives circa 200 messages per day.

I'll let you off!

Apropos of this thread I've actually started to clean me inbox up.

So I've got rid of 10,000.

And you probably beat me now!
