When it gets cooler take baths (hurray) instead of showers.
Put the heating on when needed
Get hoodies and jumpers washed
Have many herbal teas to choose from.

That's about all that's needed isn't it?

Milsonophonia · 28/08/2024 10:18

Get the chimney cleaned ready for the woodburner.

PocketCup · 28/08/2024 10:18

Lovely scented candles from TKMaxx

Autumnalove · 28/08/2024 10:19

Thanks all, just started an Autumn clean, really love the turn of the seasons!

I use lots strings lights and lamps to create warm low light when the nights begin to draw in. Also I make sure all the throws and cushions get washed before they come out.

MidYearDiary · 28/08/2024 10:26

Stock up on wood for the fire. Last year I managed to get a load of hand-felled seasoned ash that had been suffering from ash die-back and came from just down the road, so one of the less un-environmentally friendly ways of burning wood.

The lights are a great idea

I'm in the North of Scotland so throws and hoodies stay out all year round 😂

Hm, maybe get some string lights and make soup regularly🍲🍜

Ifailed · 28/08/2024 10:42

look forward to spring.

PilatesPeach · 28/08/2024 10:43

I am going to buy some fairy lights - they are on a special buy tomorrow at Aldi!

LetsGoDoDoDo · 28/08/2024 10:47

Deep clean your house
Tidy the garden
Wash throws and cushion covers
De-bobble your jumpers
Go blackberry/apple picking and batch cook some crumble, then freeze
Plan Autumn recipes, Pinterest is good for this!
Create an Autumn mood board on Pinterest
Watch Gilmore Girls
Plan some autumnal walks

Ooh... thanks for starting this thread, its really getting me in the mood!

Adatewithmyself · 28/08/2024 10:48

Thanks for the thread @Autumnalove I’m also thinking of ways to celebrate each season.

Does anyone know of any good books about ways to mark the changing seasons?

Looking for ideas, inspiration and a comforting read. There’s one by Kristy Gallagher for example.

I like being all cosy curling out logs on the sofa.

Ratherbeaspoonthanafork · 28/08/2024 10:51

I need some more fairy lights in my life any recommendations? I used to have some fairylights on twigs (from Next) in a big vase in the corner but after a few years it went messy and got thrown out. I miss them.

Also freezer stocked with some homemade soups, stews, chilli’s, curries. Get the slow cooker out.

Get some nice red wine in and some mulled wine spices.

Nice candles plenty of matches, tea lights and torches. Incase of power cuts.

Wash blankets and rugs and get winter duvet on.

ForgotThePlantsAgain · 28/08/2024 10:53

I need to up my lights game for autumn - where are people putting the fairy lights? Any recommendations for good ones?

halava · 28/08/2024 10:54

I'm waiting for the words, "snuggle, sofa, heated blanket, candles" 😄

I kind of do things, like get out the jumpers and Winter clothes, put the electric underblankets on the beds, find the heated throw, that kind of thing.

I do like Autumn. The frenzy and the "having to do things because it's Summer and we must all go somewhere lol" is over.

Yes love a glass of red during autumn/winter!

I change my purse and phone case to wine red and put the summer ones away.

I put away summer nighties and pjs, and get out the Ugg inside boots, the HeatTech socks and the thicker jumpers.

I get out my massive sheepskin coat - no one will ever see what I wear for the following six months as I am always buried under that.

Must get it cleaned this year actually....

Gatekeeper · 28/08/2024 11:01

Get lum swept and service stove
Harvest leeks, onions , apples etc and process for freezer
Wash wool blankets
Wash jumpers
Make big pans broth and batch freeze
Pick all soft fruit and make jams & jellies
Get loft ready for me crafting up there
Get the fairy lights out
Start off sloe gin
Tidy garden and sort greenhouse

Thankfully put away summer clothes. Pointless keeping them out waiting for sunshine and feeling glum so may as well embrace me merino

BettyWhiteIsGreat · 28/08/2024 11:08

My hoodies have been out all through 'summer' 😂. Buy yes to soups, stews, lights and blankets etc. I also have a few autumnal decorations that come out mid Sept. Pack away summer clothes and bits and get out the heavier jumpers, brushed cotton Pj's and best of all the brushed cotton bedding. Bliss! Give the garden a pre winter tidy up.

Also, you could change the screensaver/wallpaper on your mobile. My DD does this each season and she insists on changing mine too 😀
