I have seasonal decorations so the autumn ones come out. I decorate every room in some way (my house is small). I have coasters I made- white tile with autumn leaves; paintings of pumpkins I made go up; an autumn wreath replaces the summer sunflower one, pumpkin scented oil diffuser: autumn cushions, throws, fairy lights on the bookcase; candles and a spray of autumn colours on the mantle. The kitchen has a pumpkin shaped chalk board and plush pumpkins on the window sills, the bedroom has an autumn colours duvet cover on. There are various other autumn decorations in the dining room and the bathroom too. The slow cooker is used a lot anyway, but I ramp it up in autumn. Lots of soups, casseroles and spiced pudding. Autumn is when I make chutney and red pepper and chilli jam. As you can see, I take the season seriously 😂

Oh I like this thread, makes me excited for the change in season! The leaves are falling and the light looks different, but am absolutely baking in 27 degree heat today! All my new autumnal clothes will have to wait.

I have ordered myself more clothes, I just love autumn fashion so I always end up buying more this time of year than any other. I also just booked 4 night stay in the Cotswolds for October, I’m in London and I love getting out to the countryside when there’s a bit of a chill to the air.

Ive also started getting some craft bits for my 3 year old. A wooden pumpkin for him to decorate, a treasure chest, just ordered some pipe cleanser so we can make paper plate spiders. This also reminds me he needs a new puddle suit and wellies! Feel I need to make the most of this time of year with him, he starts school next year, so the run up to Christmas won’t look the same!

I’m also planning new bedding plants for the garden, I like to have a bit of colour and find the garden can look a bit bare by the end of September.

Edit- sorry I know buying clothes and booking time away isn’t making my home ready for autumn, it’s just getting me into the spirit of the season!!!

Oneheartycat,

Thank you for the recommendation - they certainly look interesting, but I'm really after suede or leather, as I will be wearing them all day (on the rare occasions that I am working!)

Ummm, what?

I think that probably means something different where you are from than It does round my way.

I wondered the same! Haha!

Plant up the pot by the door with some flowers that will last through to Christmas.

mathanxiety · 28/08/2024 15:41

Cooking - soups, stews, chili, curry.
Baking - pies, cookies.
Jeans, jackets, cardigans.
Candles.
Turning on the seat warmer in my car in the morning.

I have spent the summer having a really good clearout of old books, clothes amd toys so when winter arribes, l can relax by the fire and read my book knowing l don't have loads of clutter to sort.

I need some more fairy lights in my life any recommendations? I used to have some fairylights on twigs (from Next) in a big vase in the corner but after a few years it went messy and got thrown out. I miss them.

Also freezer stocked with some homemade soups, stews, chilli’s, curries. Get the slow cooker out.

Get some nice red wine in and some mulled wine spices.

Nice candles plenty of matches, tea lights and torches. Incase of power cuts.

Wash blankets and rugs and get winter duvet on.

Personally, I'd say get plug in ones and not battery powered!

Almost forgot...will be harvesting our hop canopy to make a garland and for hop tea

Heat Holders socks
Electric heated throw
Furry slippers
Fleecy pjs
Brushed cotton sheets
Hoodies
Joggers
Thermal leggings
Meals cooked on pressure cook in Ninja
Hot drinks
Candles
Crochet
Colouring

Unless the temperature is above 21⁰ I live in permanent autumn & winter, I've had the heated throw on for the last couple of weeks because I was frozen.

Fab thread!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 29/08/2024 05:51

Polish my tan leather boots, and put Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chronicles out ready to read.

fallingleavesandhairyknees · 29/08/2024 07:18

I have been washing all the throws and blankets this week to freshen them up ready to go out.
I have a company coming today to clean the living room carpet and the oven. Then I will start making the living room more cosy with the blankets, lights, candles and autumn themed cushions.

TheScenicWay · 29/08/2024 10:59

Definitely a good clean and declutter.
Lamps, candles and throws.
Gather recipes for nice slow cooked hot meals and baking.
Get everyone in the family kitted out with boots and winter stuff. Home is so much cosier when you come in from the cold.

I like being all cosy curling out logs on the sofa.

I beg your pardon?
