We are about to move to a village near Booths supermarket. Never been anywhere near one and have how some mns hold them in high regard!
What are your favourites? What to avoid. Are they good at Christmas?
Please let me know!

I don’t find them anything special to be honest! Much the same as Waitrose but more expensive

lingmerth · 26/08/2024 23:37

Bump.
That's disappointing. I was expecting a long list of favourites!

Favourite whats?
They sell quite a lot of somewhat upmarket branded goods, so you'll probably find a decent selection of whatever you want. They try to source local products too, so some of the veg etc will be seasonal - the one nearest us has a rather small car park so I don't often use it but I was near it recently and got a huge box of really good strawberries for a very reasonable price.

TheGoddessMinerva · 27/08/2024 00:05

Everything! Bags, biscuits, flavoured vinegars, fruit curds, delicious cakes. Bread. The Christmas book.

I miss Booths.

TheGoddessMinerva · 27/08/2024 00:06

(My partner went North recently, and I made him buy me bags)

lingmerth · 27/08/2024 00:10

What is special about the bags?🤔
Do they sell anything besides food?

Portugese custard tarts.
Studio Bakery Chocolate Fudge Brownies.
Lemon Pots.
Some lovely sourdough - can't remember the brand - sorry!
Great selection of cheeses.
Always have a great selection of herbs - more than the other supermarkets.
Local and freshly dug up potatoes.
Tasty rotisserie chicken.
Kebabs on the fresh meat counter.

The Christmas brochure is always an exciting event (in my world anyway!).

I shop at Booths quite a lot.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/08/2024 08:09

From about October half term, they have amazing Advent calendars.

They are the only place I ever go that sells a particular German Radler Beer.

Everything is just.,, nicer.

Full disclosure: I live in the land that Waitrose forgot, and usually shop at Tesco, Aldi and Lidl, so my bar for supermarket niceness is pretty low.

Roundthebend45 · 27/08/2024 08:13

Just returned from a holiday up north (mainly so I could go to Booths!).

I bought lots of the lovely bags, the butter pie is amazing! The range of cheese, pies, picnic type food etc. They own brand ready meals etc are all lovely. Tea, coffee, are good. Their ranges of local produce - all very good.

Wish I lived newer one, but I would be bankrupt!

lingmerth · 27/08/2024 23:26

Thanks everyone.
Please explain what is so special about the bags!

I’ve just bought one of their bags 😀

RandomMess · 27/08/2024 23:31

It's the slogans on the bags.

They sell dark tunnocks tea cakes

A whole heap of delicious UK cheeses

Bjorkdidit · 28/08/2024 05:02

They have a very good selection of bottled craft beers. The Christmas book is delightful in an aspirational way.

Go and have a look and buy what looks nice to you.

Its no good people recommending beer and cheese if you're excited by cake and hand wash.

The bags are a work of genius though and sell at a profit on ebay. You could set up a side hustle selling the bags and use the proceeds to buy lovely things to try.

Saucery · 28/08/2024 06:41

Their bakery sourdough and Devon split tin loaves.
The cheese counter.
I prefer their milk to any other supermarket’s.
They sell Longley Farm cottage cheese (as do Sainsburys but not Waitrose).
Fruit and veg stays fresher for longer and actually tastes of something.
Wallings ice cream.
Own brand chunky frozen chips.
Mince isn’t in that horrible vacuum packing.
Have done a few Christmas Click And Collect orders after going through the Christmas Book - fantastic! Not many substitutions but when there was they were of an excellent quality. One year I had forgotten to add stuffing and they put some in anyway for free!

No self serve tills, service always polite and friendly. My nearest one is quite small and it’s always the same staff.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 28/08/2024 06:51

If you're going to be local sign up to their loyalty cards you get money off, birthday cake and sometimes treats on a Wednesday.
Then basically it's a bit spendy but always has good ingredients.
The bags are fab, my current one is over the hills and Chardonnay!
The cheese section is always good and they'll let you try before you buy!
The hardback Christmas brochure is lovely even though I never order from it!
Ours is just around the corner from our cinema and as a treat we get a meal deal (£5) main. 2 snacks and a drink.
Last hint also sign up to too good to go app and you can sometimes get surprise bags for around a fiver.
Enjoy!

AuntieMarys · 28/08/2024 06:57

The cheese counter
Rafis spice mixes

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 28/08/2024 07:02

Doves digestive biscuits! You will never buy any other brand again.
Cuckoo gin, so good. 😍

DrPeculiar · 28/08/2024 07:05

I shop at a Booths a lot as it is my nearest supermarket.

It sells a lot of local produce. The meat and fish counter is good, I always buy the offer of the week (this week it was lamb shoulder and cod fillet). Good selection of nice quality pasta and a great range of things like flour and olive oils. Also good from free from food. Cook freezer is handy.

The fruit and veg is nice, but I prefer it from M&S tbh - apart from Annabels strawberries. I also prefer the cold meat selection and things like the 3 for £8 deli selection from M&S.

I never buy washing powder/household cleaning products/loo rolls there as they are generally more expensive than anywhere else.

I'm not a fan of the piles of Christmas brochures, just something else everyone picks up for the novelty factor which is destined for landfill - available online.

Honestly ..... I think it is just another food shop.

olivehater · 28/08/2024 07:05

Langley farm cottage cheese is honestly the only cottage cheese I can eat now.

Their baguettes are lovely.

Always get a fresh squeezed orange juice.

Like a baked potato and chilli from the hot counter.

There sandwich meal deals are great.

They sell a range of gift stuff. Just got my DD a gorgeous body length hot water bottle (long and thin like a dachshund). She likes a cosy hwb and it had a really cute fabric cover.

MaidOfSteel · 28/08/2024 07:11

Very random, but they do Tishoo tissues, in a cylindrical box. Great for slotting in the cup holder in the car.

IggyAce · 28/08/2024 07:15

I’ve got 2 of their slogan bags, the cake district and over the hills and Chardonnay. They are lovely strong cloth bags and have short and long handles. They also wash well.
The Christmas book is a thing of beauty.
Love the cheese selection and we usually make a trip to our nearest Booths (an hour away) for cheese and biscuits at Christmas, plus the mince pies.
Cumberland ring sausages.
The cafe is nice.
The beer and wine selection is great, they have a focus on local breweries.

crazycatladie · 28/08/2024 07:22

I asked my husband to get me one of their bags, it's pink and says ,"The Cake District' purchased at booths in Windermere

LoquaciousPineapple · 28/08/2024 07:29

The tote bags are good quality, roomy and made of nice and thick material. They have two strap lengths which I find really useful. They're not "special" but the best tote bags I've had, I use them for everyday things as well as shopping.

Our booths doesn't really sell much that you can't get elsewhere. I like the Studio Bakery millionaires shortbread and rocky dodger. Their own brand pizzas are very good. The cake counter has some great mini cheesecakes. Ours has a curry counter that is really good. At Christmas, they have a good selection of small gifts and posh chocolates/biscuits etc. And the Christmas book is lovely, even though we don’t order from it.

RhubarbAndCustardSweets · 28/08/2024 07:32

We get their Christmas dinner every year! It's all prepped and delicious so makes everything easier. The melting middle sticky toffee pudding is divine. Their fruit and veg is really good quality. Plum bread is delicious.
