During a holiday in Florida aged 16, I bumped into 6 students in my school year. Two on the same day, but at different places in the theme park. One of them was coming out of the toilets when I was entering.

Then camping in France, our neighbours turn out to be the son and family of a friend's neighbours.

In all the situations, we didn't know we were going to the same place.

Not me (I don't get out much) but my middle daughter moved to live in Melbourne. Was getting off the tram outside her work building in the CBD, when she bumped into an old school friend getting off a bus in the same place.

We live in Yorkshire and neither knew the other was even going to Australia!

Was sitting in the sun outside Novosibirsk station when Maarten, a Dutch friend, wandered by on his way to Mongolia.

Also met two people from work in Zakopane one Easter.

Remote valley in mid-Wales, we go into the village pub, landlord and wife were from the next street to where I grew up, 400 miles away.

Old school friend in Cuba

Bumped into a friend (from NE England) in a launderette in Chicago when I was Amtrak-ing around as a student

Luxor, Egypt and it was so random. It was 2000 and I was a regular shopper in my local Topshop. I used to go in regularly and often chat to one of the ladies if she was on changing rooms or tills. I was on holiday in Luxor have an Afternoon tea at a historic hotel called The Winter Palace (google it). Low and behold - the lady from Topshop was on the terrace having an afternoon tea! It was the weirdest thing ever.

Also in Florida !

newrubylane · 23/08/2024 18:58

Portugal. My dad manages to either bump into someone he knows or befriend someone who turns out to know someone he knows wherever he goes in the world. It has become a running family joke now.

Isthiscorrect · 23/08/2024 19:07

Not me. But years ago my ex boyfriend met my current (at the time) boyfriend on a flight back home to the uk , from NYC.
Safe to say my return home a few weeks later did not go well. 😂

Rome - was doing a tour of the Coliseum and suddenly someone called my name - it was one of my mother's carers.
My parents (lived in the US) were in Israel at a café and a friend of theirs saw them and joined them. Neither knew the other was travelling there.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 23/08/2024 19:42

I bumped into my ex boyfriend on the Koh San Rd in Bangkok. Very awkward 😐 I also had a brief fling with a guy on holiday in Cyprus when I was 16, forgot all about him and ended up at the same University 😳

An old neighbour at a chai stall in rural India. So many double-takes.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 23/08/2024 20:12

Saw my old boss walking along the sea front in Gran Canaria, a mate jogging passed me in Portugal and a cousin by marriage in Kos.

Arrived at a hotel in Cuba and immediately bumped into someone I work with. Luckily he and his wife are lovely as we were there with them for 10 days and it wasn't a big resort! Slightly awkward seeing him walk around in his budgie smugglers though...

00BonneMaman00 · 23/08/2024 20:41

Australia

khaa2091 · 23/08/2024 21:05

As a medical student I went on my elective to Australia. Someone who I didn't know very well at university, but grew up 5 miles from me in UK, was at the same hospital. We were both staying with aunts and their gardens backed onto each other.

My parents live in a small village in Cornwall. My Dad met someone last week who spent 15 years in the next door mine to where he grew up in Sierra Leone.

mybrainisbusybeingawesome · 23/08/2024 21:24

Also Florida! Magic kingdom waiting for the fireworks and bumped into an old colleague. We shared a pic in front of the castle with the team back home 😅

NursieBernard · 23/08/2024 21:30

We bumped into Keith Floyd TV chef, but also the landlord of our local pub at the time, in Sydney when we were on a family holiday many years ago.
