Furthest you been away and bumped into people you know

During a holiday in Florida aged 16, I bumped into 6 students in my school year. Two on the same day, but at different places in the theme park. One of them was coming out of the toilets when I was entering.

Then camping in France, our neighbours turn out to be the son and family of a friend's neighbours.

In all the situations, we didn't know we were going to the same place.

Thailand age 19 - uni friends on the kho Dan road and a girl I went to school with on kho Tao ride past me on a scooter bike and said hi! So random but also back in the early 2000s backpacking in Thailand was a right of passage so hardly surprising

Deep in the Indonesian jungle I bumped into a boy from my year at school. We ended up having a great time hanging out in a cafe with a load of random people and a guitar!

In the Isle of Wight but DH also bumped into someone we knew in Spain.

1. St Tropez when I was a student: guy I'd just been working in the Wimpy with in London
2. Same trip - my old English teacher from secondary school on a bus from a campsite in Switzerland
3. more recently, guy I'd been dating when I was living abroad rocks up on holiday on a,UK beach with his wife (whom he left me for) and 2 kids while I was there with my DH and our kids.

Spouse of a friend in Wellington NZ. We had dinner together that night. He was at a conference and I was travelling. Had last seen him at his wedding in the New Forest the previous year. Neither knew the other was going to NZ

I've not met anyone especially far away, but my housemate did randomly bump into a friend at the top of a Scottish mountain who then asked after the health of my cat....

A friend of my xh in Goa, I was with my new boyfriend. Someone I went to school with in Spain. My childhood neighbour at Lands End. The most surprising was someone I know from work who I’d only met at online meetings, I was wandering around carrying 2 pints of lager looking for my partner at a concert, he hadn’t moved but I couldn’t find him for ages in the crowd, bumped into this woman from work twice before I found him!

My cousin and her husband were visiting us from Australia. They went to the Roman Baths one day, and she bumped into a school friend from back home in Oz!

God everywhere! Thailand was probably the furthest at a beach party, just ran into an old neighbour from where I grew up, I was also seated right next to my old record shop owner on a flight back from Cyprus, that wasn't awkward at all after the usual pleasantries 😆

I bumped into a U.K. colleague in Zanzibar about 26 years ago - both travelling.

We went to Vegas about 18 years ago, and bumped into Vonda, a woman from our local supermarket, in the Rio hotel and then later in the 4 Queens. What are the odds?!?

Carribean cruise on honeymoon, met a couple from the next town over who got married on the same day as us

No bumped into stories. But I was going to NYC with a friend flying from Canada and a friend I grew up with in NZ that lived in Singapore was going to NY the same time so we managed to meet up. We hadn’t seen each other for about 20yrs.

similarly was in NZ on holiday the same time as an online friend, staying in the same town so had a meet up. Another ‘friend’ from the town I live in the US was also there but did not want to meet up 😜

Someone from uni at a museum in Dubai, and an old school friend on the same Staten Island ferry in NYC!

Bumped into my vet and his partner in Sydney Aquarium while we were both travelling from South London

Another boat one. Whilst going across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz, I heard a very loud Cockney laugh and thought, 'That's definitely Dave, my hilarious friend from uni,' and indeed it was!

Working the cloak room in a London club in the mid 90s. Punter came up and asked if I was DustyGrapevine from Sydney. Turns out he was the little brother of a family I grew up with. Hadn't seen him for 30 years but he recognised me!

I bumped into a girl I went to school with while walking down The Strip in Las Vegas. We just stared at each other in amazement!

Edited to say: this was 30-odd years ago when LV wasn't the common holiday destination for Brits that it is now.

I have bumped into people I know from England in Sydney and in a nightclub in Mexico.

Weirdest was was while we were on holiday in the US. My friend bumped into a guy she had met in New Zealand the year before. He was American but from the other side of the country and just in town visiting friends.
