I had this at 16 weeks (I'd had it earlier too). On this episode I was admitted into hospital as I'd lost about a pint of blood. No cause was ever found and baby was done (she's a very loud energetic nearly 6 year old now).

Hey, sorry you’re going through this, it’s always an anxious time.

I bled with my first baby almost every week from 7 weeks until 17/18 weeks, it was heavy & bright red but never any pain. It turned out to be a particularly bad cervical ectropion. My son is now 4 and about to start school…it doesn’t always mean the worst.

sending positive thoughts x

YourBusyTurtle · 19/08/2024 19:18

Thank you all so much you are all so kind & reassuring! Keep the positive stories coming please x

Mine is anterior, but they haven’t said anything about its position xxx

I had bleeding around that time and was told wait and see. Anyway all fine but it's terrifying at the time. I was later told I have a short cervix, which can apparently mean you are more likely to bleed. Wishing you all the best, and try not to worry (impossible, I know!) x

did you bleed heavily? How long did it last? Sorry for all the questions x

I had it in all three pregnancies at various stages, I was told that whilst it’s not exactly normal it’s very common.
All is very probably well.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 19/08/2024 19:36

I am sorry you’re going through this. Hopefully you will know more tomorrow if you have a private scan.
I had bleeding in my second pregnancy due to a subchorionic haematoma. This was seen on scans and it was absorbed around 16 weeks.
Third pregnancy I bled at 13 weeks for about 3 days but no cause ever found. It was very traumatic not knowing why. Currently 24 weeks and all seems ok (touch wood!).
sending you my best wishes.

Catcatkitten · 19/08/2024 19:37

I had this, the cause was a subchorionic haematoma. Successful pregnancy.

I was ‘hoping’ this is what it is, but I had a scan last week and the week before and no signs of one! X

I bled intermittently & quite heavily with my first pregnancy. 2nd time had lighter bleeds until around 18 weeks. Both pregnancies progressed & they're now healthy adults in their 20s.

Was this during the second trimester? Did it settle quite quickly? X

I had a lot of bleeding and it was an unsuccessful twin sac that hadn’t been noticed before. It was a lot of blood. I then bled on and off for weeks. My mum bled for the first 4/5 months of her pregnancy with me and thought they were periods not knowing she was even pregnant.

Hope you can get seen very soon. If you’re feeling unwell and bleeding a lot, you are perfectly allowed to go to hospital - you’re not just a baby carrier and therefore solely under maternity. Sometimes you have to advocate for yourself pretty loudly.

Thank you for replying! They told me to go to A&E if the bleeding gets really severe or if I feel like I can’t cope x

Someone I know had this every month for all 9 months of her pregnancy.

She thought it was her period - bit of a shock when she went to hospital with suspected appendicitis and gave birth 3 hours later 😂

I hope everything is ok but hopefully stories here where people have experienced this and it's been fine and know known cause will help you relax while you wait for a scan. Flowers

Tonight37 · 19/08/2024 19:52

Hi OP, in your position I would go to A&E. At your gestation they will probably send you for a scan if you’re there

It was fairly heavy for a few hours. That was just random, and then one other time after sex a bit further along (maybe 21 weeks?). Anyway, DD is nearly 5 and enjoying a manic few weeks of summer holiday, so I am wishing you the best of luck!

YellowphantGrey · 19/08/2024 19:55

Hope you're OK?

I bled through my last pregnancy, it was like a period and did all the way through to about 33 weeks. Red blood and occasionally brown blood.

After a few scans they realised I had a growth that was bleeding and it wasn't baby related but it was still stressful.

Hope you get scanned sooner and everything is ok

our A&e is honestly so useless. I doubt they will have any sonographers there and not tell me that until I’ve waited 6 hours x

This is very reassuring thank you! It is definitely like period blood, potentially even heavier

Yeah heavy bleeding through clothes at a train station, of all places, over a few hours. One of the most worrying times of my life.Never found the cause but resulted in healthy baby. Good luck to you, for whatever reason bleeding seems more commonplace in pregnancy than not.

I can't remember the exact name of it but it was similar to a cyst. As baby got bigger, I bled more. I used to wear sanitary towels, however unlike my periods, I never bled through them. I wore them to help me monitor the blood loss.
