"Every new prime minister gets to celebrate their 50th day in office by restoring Liz Truss's rightful title of 'UK's shortest serving prime minister'. Congrats,
@KeirStarmer"

BIossomtoes · 23/08/2024 12:57

And not every PM can lay claim to having killed the Queen.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/08/2024 13:30

Can one only get disaster baskets from the foreign office or are they available from other outlets too?

I love the entire genre of stories about how terrible Keir is where they really have to scrape the barrel. Glad they haven’t stopped since he became PM. This is up there with the bastard bought a donkey sanctuary.

Notonthestairs · 23/08/2024 14:03

You can buy a disaster basket from all major retailers.
I've had two this week. Maybe that makes me elite. Or woke.

pointythings · 23/08/2024 17:27

So a disaster basket is basically a meal deal, yes?

Two weeks on, the public have a more positive opinion about how the riots were handled Police:

63% say handled well (+11 from 5-6 Aug)
Legal system: 57% (+30)
Keir Starmer: 43% (+12)
Yvette Cooper: 30% (+7)

Greek salad (other salads probably qualify), crisps, can of Tango = disaster basket

The speed-of-light charging and sentencing was probably the key. A very clear quick message that "protesting" wasn't shitz and gigglz (even the fearless GBNews heavies were cowed into shitting their twitter bios) and that if you went a-rioting, you'd get banged up.

Seeing some gammon twats blub their eyes out probably helped. It's a shame the news weren't allowed us to imagine these toddlers defending the country against proper threats.

Now to win the peace and make sure these events are never referred to as anything other than right wing thuggery by a bunch of right wing thugs and their shit for brains hangers on. We remember the 2011 riots. We need to remember the 2024 riots.

And RIP those tiny innocents. The only ones I shed tears for.

I just watched the news footage of Elsie Dot's funeral Sad

itsgettingweird · 23/08/2024 19:02

I saw a snippet of it earlier. It was on BBC2. I hadn't realised and switched it on to watch the news.

Not going to deny i shed a number of tears.

RIP those beautiful tiny innocent children

The older the get, despite my sometimes uncompromising tone, the more emotional I get. Odd things can push me into floods. Especially with kids.

My Bible-fu is creaky, but I am sure the big J said something about anyone who hurts a child had better have a very well protected backside ? I'd ask a Christian, but they aren't really into the Bible these days.

It's a new jibe. The MAGAs tried to criticise Kamala for having a bag of Doritos.

It's a bit odd to go for being normal as a flaw!

itsgettingweird · 23/08/2024 20:00

I'm definitely more emotional with age.

But certainly more so since my mum died. I think I have an empathy switch I can't control!

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/08/2024 20:55

Some MAGAs were wandering around with JDVance sperm cups at a rally the other week. They have no right to be jibing at anyone.

Not that you are allowed to call them weird.

100% true.

I'm sorry, @Rafaisthekingofclay, I have to ask. Sperm cup? Cringingly awaiting an explanation and hoping he doesn't come round to deliver it personally.

newnamethanks · 23/08/2024 22:03

Ah. I should have guessed. MAGA home of twisted logic and the weird and creepy. Thanks Rafa.

Notonthestairs · 23/08/2024 22:09

Can you imagine that sort of 'promotion' happening in the UK? In the EU? Anywhere else?

ghostyslovesheets · 23/08/2024 22:16

Hello all my lovely wishy washy dogooders and the nice people who politely argue with us!

Nit paying cat tax - will do asap - been absent due to very busy week with work/kids culminating in a frantic GCSE results day but, if interested, check out

Corridors of power: Should America Police The World? on BBC I-Player - it is BRILLIANT - it's so good (it's about genocide post WW2) - watching it (one episode a night) with DD1 who is a Politics and IR student at Manchester (about to go into 3rd year) and it's a real education - she no longer, for example, feels Blair was a total twat war monger having watched the episode on Iran and Chemical Ali - it's a pretty damning series and very well researched but it also shed light on the history. (I do think it's okay to feel angry at the illegal war btw but it does give it a lot more context when you think back to the first Iran war).

Highly recommended watch - just finished Ep 3 - Rwanda - it's awful - fucking Clinton - some amazing women in that episode - working in the embassy - it's painful to watch but really informative.

Corridors of Power: Should America Police the World? - Series 1: 4. Kosovo – In the Name of Our Future - BBC iPlayer

Corridors of Power: Should America Police the World? - Series 1: 4. Kosovo – In the Name of Our Future

Muslim separatists in the Kosovo region rekindle old conflicts, leading Clinton’s White House to consider Serbian President Milošević’s regime a threat to their own civilians.

Excuse the spelling I have consumed a vat of wine

Apolloneuro · 23/08/2024 22:40

Something that cheered me up was seeing Katie Hopkins blubbing on instagram about a venue cancelling her ‘comic’ tour. Ha! Cancel the witch.

Genuinely hoping this is just a troll and not true but MAGA so who knows.

Is there any hope for America to become a civilised country?

All this and still half the country looks like it's going to vote for Trump.
