Only because I would like to know if an ex relative is driving again. This was taken from their phone and is a long painful story. Photo appeared on social media

Was this photo taken from the drivers or passenger seat?

Looks like the driver’s side - but of course it could be a dash cam.

Hillrunning · 18/08/2024 10:08

I'd say drivers. It's quite far over to be the passenger.

Darkfire · 18/08/2024 10:08

Looks like drivers side if taken by a camera being held by someone.

SoupDragon · 18/08/2024 10:20

Definitely driver's side. Could be someone leaning all the way forward from the back. Theoretically it could be taken by someone leaning over from the passenger side to get that particular shot but it seems incredibly unlikely.

titchy · 18/08/2024 10:21

Driver's - you can see the bottom corner of the pillar between side and front windows.

titchy · 18/08/2024 10:22

And is that the steering wheel/shadow?

quickturtle · 18/08/2024 10:22

Drivers side and very odd if there is a difficult backstory that they have posted that particular shot.

AuClaireDeLune · 18/08/2024 10:24

Looking at the angle where the window meets the dashboard I’d say the photo was taken by the driver. I cannot see a dash cam (which I fix in precisely the area shown but others may differ).

Not from that POV it couldn’t.

Edited

You fix your dashcam right in front of your face?

Eyesopenwideawake · 18/08/2024 10:37

Drivers side but means nothing if the engine is off.

Blondiebeachbabe · 18/08/2024 10:37

Drivers side assuming it's in the UK.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 18/08/2024 10:37

I reckon it’s either the driver, or someone sitting in the back leaning forward between the two front seats. Definitely not the front passenger

INeedAnotherName · 18/08/2024 10:39

Drivers side. You can see the windscreen pillar bottom right, plus the outline of the bonnet on right side is how a driver would see it.

In theory relative could say they passed their phone to the driver to take the picture but people don't really do that in real life.

DancingNotDrowning · 18/08/2024 10:39

It’s definitely taken from the right hand of the vehicle but it looks like a passenger side dash - could it be a left hand drive vehicle?

Turophilic · 18/08/2024 10:41

It’s the right hand side of the car, so driver’s side of a U.K. vehicle. But it’s on a ferry, so maybe could be a LHD car from Europe?

Agree with this. If it was drivers side you'd be able to see the steering wheel or at least some of the instruments. In my car the drivers side of the dash is a totally different shape to the passenger side, like this..

LIZS · 18/08/2024 10:46

The pillar on right would suggest driver side.

mindutopia · 18/08/2024 10:50

It’s taken from the driver’s side of the car on a typical British car (as in the right side), but I don’t think you can insinuate from that that this person is actually driving it. They could have leant over because they wanted to capture the gate in the photo. The driver could have taken the photo and shared it with them. Whose car is it? Who is insured to drive it? Who do they claim was the driver?

3luckystars · 18/08/2024 10:52

It looks like the it was taken at the very front right hand side, just inside the windscreen.

Was the steering wheel definitely on the right though?

Bubblybits · 18/08/2024 10:53

It’s not “definitely” anything 😐The photographer could have leaned across the driver to take the photo from their perspective. They could have taken the photo leaning through the gap from the back seat. Equally it could have been taken from the driver’s seat. There’s no way to tell definitively.

Westfacing · 18/08/2024 10:57

The registration number that you've tried to black out is reflected on the car's bonnet!

Luddite26 · 18/08/2024 10:58

You aren't going to know that from this photo. Someone may tell you or you may see them drive that's the only way to know for sure. Are you torturing yourself unnecessarily.

This.

Certainly looks like the photo was take from the right hand side of the car but there doesn't seem to he any steering wheel or instrument panel.

More than happy for you to message me privately. If this person is driving again I’m really concerned
