Only because I would like to know if an ex relative is driving again. This was taken from their phone and is a long painful story. Photo appeared on social media

Was this photo taken from the drivers or passenger seat?

Except for lack of demist wires I think it looks more like rear view?

It’s not rear view. All cars line up facing the same direction.

HollyKnight · 18/08/2024 13:17

Do people not have arms? The person could be sitting anywhere in the car and holding their arm out to get the photo.

Bjorkdidit · 18/08/2024 13:20

It's a suggestion that the person might be driving again, but it's not absolute proof.

If the OP is concerned because the person is an alcoholic or banned from driving then perhaps she should ask the police for advice, but in reality, unless they catch them in the act, then not a lot will happen.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/08/2024 13:31

Surely that's the Sandbanks Ferry & that's in Dorset?

(I'll go back to Pedantry Corner now.)

But you can only see the beginning of it, viewed from the left hand side.

What you can see is very clearly the driver's side. Or an extremely small car with a very narrow passenger side.

SleepingisanArt · 18/08/2024 13:43

It's a left hand drive car - look at the windscreen wipers! They reach to the edge of the windscreen and that only happens on the passenger side of the car. So the photo was taken from the passenger seat in a left hand drive car.

larkstar · 18/08/2024 13:45

Passenger in left hand drive vehicle?

No, they don’t. The wiper starts above the letter ‘w’ and extends to the left. This means it is a right hand drive car. Think about a windscreen covered with snow and the pattern that would be made when the wipers are turned on.

And that the steering wheel is in the picture.

your eye sight is better than mine then - I thought it looked like some had their knee up 🤣

Iasonnas · 18/08/2024 13:48

Perfect thread OP. You're no wiser than when you started.

Every answer is different to the fucking last 🤣

TruthorDie · 18/08/2024 13:48

Drivers

twomanyfrogsinabox · 18/08/2024 13:49

The vehicles are all parked so it could be anyone taking the picture even if taken from the drivers seat. Could even be taken out of the back window if the car was parked in reverse, in fact that would explain the lack of dashboard furniture.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 18/08/2024 13:51

Its drivers side but if its been posted on sm it doesn't mean the person who posted it took the picture.

Iasonnas · 18/08/2024 13:51

"Could even be taken out of the back window if the car was parked in reverse"

You think he reversed onto the ferry? 🤣🤣

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/08/2024 13:53

Is it a right hand drive or left hand drive car, @Costacoffeeisbetterthanstarbucks ?

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 18/08/2024 13:54

I can see the steering wheel in the picture. The picture is oddly to the right. I think someone has leant through from the back but to the door side of the head rest. I do think one taken from the drivers seat would more central over the steering wheel.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 18/08/2024 13:55

It may not be the pillar on the right there. It could be something like a dashcame stuck on or an integrated screen. Or a bag!

TheShellBeach · 18/08/2024 12:21

How can you have an ex-relative?

People are either related to you or they're not, surely?

I guess if they aren't blood related? So like an ex-partner, or an estranged stepchild or ex in-law.🤷‍♀️

Edit - Duplicated for some reason!

PolePrince55 · 18/08/2024 13:56

Could be a photo taken by someone else forwarded to them

twomanyfrogsinabox · 18/08/2024 13:57

When you park on a ferry you do what you are told by the person loading. I have been directed to reverse into bays. RORO are all the same way, others not necessarily, and if you are against a bulkhead definitely reversed in. On small ferries you can be asked to park in really odd positions to allow one or two big vehicles.

@TheShellBeach

id say it's a reasonable way to describe an ex FIL for instance.

Yes it is and a gorgeous part of the country!
Edited to add that perhaps a derail is allowed as this thread doesn't seem to be achieving much?

DeersBeersPeers · 18/08/2024 14:00

Looks like the right hand side pf the car fore sure but the dashboard looks like the passenger side (no sign of all the dials and steering wheel? I think it's probably a left hand drive car. So photographer is in passenger seat

SummerSplashing · 18/08/2024 14:04

@Costacoffeeisbetterthanstarbucks

none of this matters, you're not going to be able to prove they were driving. The police are not going to sift through CCTV to see if they can see the car driving onto the ferry, they wouldn't even do that if you'd seen this person with your own eyes.

youll have to go another way about finding out if they're driving when they shouldn't be.
