So here we go.

After a beautiful sunny day and warm evening, the sun was going at 8.30. I'm not ready...🙁

Same!

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 16/08/2024 21:18

@Everyoneesleistheproblem I feel exactly the same. I love the long, light evenings too.

zzplex · 16/08/2024 21:18

I know, it seems to have come round so quickly. Just as you get used to the long evenings they start to get shorter.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/08/2024 21:19

Love dark evenings. Feel that I need to keep doing stuff when it’s still light.
6pm, light the fire, put the telly on.

Eminybob · 16/08/2024 21:19

Noooo it's still summer! I haven't even been on my summer holiday yet!
It's not over til the kids are back in school.

I like it. About 7pm is what feels to me like proper evening and so should be dark. I find it tiring still being in sun at 10pm.

The day after the longest day is when I breath a little sigh of relief that we are heading back towards sensible length days.

IAmJohnMajor · 16/08/2024 21:20

I have so much to do this year, the nights getting shorter is like living with the countdown clock over my head with the doodlydodoodlydodoodlydoooo sound imminent.
😭🙈

NuffSaidSam · 16/08/2024 21:20

I just thought the same thing.

I like the summer and the autumn so I'm not gleefully getting the hot chocolate out or feeling depressed because we're at the back end of summer, there's something to enjoy in all the seasons.

Mogloveseggs · 16/08/2024 21:21

sorry op but I think it's lovely. I get exhausted by all the light in summer and going to bed and getting up in daylight. Starting to feel more like myself now that I can go to bed in the dark.

GrandHighPoohbah · 16/08/2024 21:21

The evenings are noticeably shorter by the August Bank Holiday. I have to remind myself every year to start enjoying the longer evenings in May! There is just so much more flexibility in the day when it's lighter later.

DinnaeFashYersel · 16/08/2024 21:21

Aye the nights are fair drawin in

(Actually it's still light where I am)

IAmJohnMajor · 16/08/2024 21:23

I love the long days sooooo much. So much more choice over how to spend your time.

And I rarely get dazzled by oncoming car headlights when the days are long. 🤣🤣

StarDolphins · 16/08/2024 21:25

My 8 year old has just started going out playing every night until it goes dark with all the kids in the neighbourhood & I just don’t want it to end for her. I can’t stand screens so I’m sad it’s coming to an end.

Where are you, I'm in Edinburgh and it's pitch dark. I hadn't noticed til I read this post and it's made me quite sad! 😢

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 16/08/2024 21:30

Sunrise in London is 5.50.

The answer is to get up earlier, I hate it but do it as I love sunlight.

DancingLions · 16/08/2024 21:30

It means I can actually use my pretty garden lights, so that makes me happy. Nothing I like more than a warm but dark evening. Can't stand blazing sun at 9pm. I just can't relax while it's still daylight.

EasilyDisturbed · 16/08/2024 21:31

It’s so depressing, I love waking up in daylight and being outside all evening, either busy doing things or just sitting on the patio, hate that feeling ending up indoors every evening or having to wrap up in coats etc to go anywhere and coming home from work in the dark is just the pits.

Bonus points if you say that on 22 June.

HowIrresponsible · 16/08/2024 21:34

I went to Iceland in June purely so it was 24 hour daylight. Absolutely loved it.

I can't stand darkness. It's depressing.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 16/08/2024 21:37

I hate the time of year when the football
season and Strictly start, find it so depressing - it's such a long dark slog until spring

Everyoneesleistheproblem · 16/08/2024 21:38

I know the " dark cosy nights" people will be happy. And that's fine in late autumn and winter.
Its just August is traditionally the more relaxed summer holiday month yet it's so noticeable we are on the turn. He long days in May and June feel like busy work months.

For some unknown reason I feel lazy if I go to bed when it’s light, loving that it’s dark at nine!

Chocolateorange22 · 16/08/2024 21:42

I'm usually all for autumn but I don't feel like we ever had a spring so I feel a bit out of sorts. We never really had that May warmish sunshine then the rain lifted and we've had hot (I'm ginger and pale so it is for me) stifling humidity. For the first time ever I'm not sure I'm ready for going back to wet and cold just yet. I'm looking forward to what autumn brings but I want the May weather that we missed first, maybe September will bring something mild for us.
