So here we go.

After a beautiful sunny day and warm evening, the sun was going at 8.30. I'm not ready...🙁

sorry op but I think it's lovely. I get exhausted by all the light in summer and going to bed and getting up in daylight. Starting to feel more like myself now that I can go to bed in the dark.

That's exactly how ai feel. Like starting to feel myself again

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 16/08/2024 21:30

Sunrise in London is 5.50.

The answer is to get up earlier, I hate it but do it as I love sunlight.

@NerdWhoEatsMedlar I'm up by 5:30. I LOVE the light mornings. So often awake enjoying them at 4 in the mid summer, BUT I also love the light late nights... Being up early doesn't make the nights farting dark any better.

Woohoo! I was ready in June :-)

Me too, I counted the days until the summer solstice because I knew it would finally start getting dark earlier albeit very very slowly

Same, 💯 my favourite season 🍂

I LOVE Autumn too, but not mid August!!

SweetTeaCup · 16/08/2024 23:42

If you are home then I don’t see the issue ?
Some of us are out working til 11pm and drive home in the dark.
I don’t honestly have time to look out and see how early the nights are drawing in because I’m working backshift most nights.
On my days off I much prefer long summer light nights.

Tumbleweed101 · 17/08/2024 08:57

It’s getting darker by around 3min each night this time of year. Think it goes up to 4mins each night in November (time and date website is quite interesting for this kind of info).

I always feel a bit sad once they are noticeably drawing in. I like light evenings because you feel like there is still some day after finishing work. Can still enjoy a walk or potter in the garden. By mid October it’ll be getting dark as I leave work and once clocks change it’ll be dark before I finish.

I don’t mind it getting dark about the time it is now. It’s still a couple hours of light after work. I can sleep better once it is properly dark again through the night. I hate the long winter nights though and cold dark mornings where it feels you should still be sleeping. I get up for the day much easier through the summer months as feels like you should be awake.

Its been nice to have a sunny August with the schools off instead of the best weather before.

EasilyDisturbed · 17/08/2024 10:31

Yes, it's so much easier getting up in daylight, eyes open and ready to start the day. Getting up in the dark is so depressing. I hate blackout curtains for this reason too, it's so much nicer when the room is bright in the mornings.

I fucking hate autumn. Everything about it is depressing. Leaves changing colours is just the tree shutting down for winter. Only cold and wet, dark days to look forward to for months and months and fucking months on end.

This 100%

WhatOnGodsGreenEarth · 16/08/2024 21:16

I am. Bring on the autumn! 😜🍂

Same!

Augustus40 · 17/08/2024 12:30

Personally I luv the seasonal changes. The darker evenings are welcome.

mydogisthebest · 17/08/2024 12:41

I hate hate hate dark mornings and evenings. I would be quite happy if it was light for 24 hours.

So depressing

minthybobs · 17/08/2024 12:46

I like all seasons and their quirks but frankly I think early sunset is grossly unfair now. We’ve had barely any summer at all, constant rain, so even if I wanted to enjoy the warm light summer evenings back in June/July it’s been pissing it down.

I don’t think anyone is unreasonable to feel a bit cheated out of light enjoyable summer evenings considering how few of them we’ve actually had!

GoTigers · 17/08/2024 12:48

I’m with you OP. Too soon! I bloody love the long light evenings and want them to stay as long as possible.

I like Autumn but not yet. And I hate winter / Christmas so want to put it off as long as possible.

Yep- same. Really dont get people who enjoy the dark gloomy freezing cold weather which costs bomb in heating and its miserable AF outside.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2024 12:52

I agree.

And I think it feels so much colder and darker after a beautiful day.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2024 12:54

I also find the other way bothers me too.

This is august. The summer. The summer holiday. I take ds swim training at 4.30am. It's now dark when we leave and still dark when we are there. Just doesn't feel right.

It could at least wait until I go back to school in September!

Spectre8 · 17/08/2024 12:56

I love it, normally have movie nights on the weekend and it feels much cosier with it being darker earlier

kitsuneghost · 17/08/2024 12:57

I like the longer evenings.
In summer it seems like you are work bed work.

The darkness is a psychological cue to switch off for the day so you have more evening downtime.

PearlSlaghoople · 17/08/2024 12:57

ramsayboltonshounds · 16/08/2024 21:17

Same!

Me too! This so-called summer has been a waste of time, haven’t used half my summer clothes or the garden furniture!

Im well ready to get the new season underway, with different food, clothes and nice things to look forward to.
Roll on Autumn, nice fresh start!

I don't mind it getting dark early as long as it's been properly light in the day. It feels like we're in a constant state of twilight at the moment, it's so grey and dull all the time. I need the long light days to reset my SAD after the winter, and it hasn't really happened the last couple of years

liveforsummer · 24/08/2024 21:24

Staying in a caravan tonight with dd in central Scotland. Absolutely pitch dark since about 8.30. Surely it's not normally so dark so early in the year?! Thank for I managed to find a head torch that still had some charge from winter as we've no electricity and I'd like to be able to read a bit. Today was forecast to be reasonably nice as well as dry but still had multiple heavy rain showers and now the wind is picking up (yet again 🙄)
