So here we go.

After a beautiful sunny day and warm evening, the sun was going at 8.30. I'm not ready...🙁

I went to Iceland in June purely so it was 24 hour daylight. Absolutely loved it.

I can't stand darkness. It's depressing.

Haha! I've been to Tromso twice in December for the exact opposite thing!

SecretWitch · 16/08/2024 21:48

I'm loving it. I struggle with the bright sunlit days of summer. I can't wait til it's dark at 4pm

Aye the nights are fair drawin in

(Actually it's still light where I am)

Spot the fellow Scot

hexsnidgett · 16/08/2024 21:50

Hooray! It's dark. It's cooling off at night, don't you people need to sleep?!

Eminybob · 16/08/2024 21:19

Noooo it's still summer! I haven't even been on my summer holiday yet!
It's not over til the kids are back in school.

Schools are back round here...

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/08/2024 21:52

Well, we haven't really had a summer so the nights drawing in feels so much work. It's the coolest summer I've known in a long time. I work in a school and there were barely any hot sunny days for the kids to enjoy playing out in! Then we broke up for the holidays, I shopped for some holiday clothes, went on our hols, and came back on Monday to it getting dark early! WTF!

Clingfilm · 16/08/2024 21:56

I'm making the most of getting outdoors after work for walks and cycles, getting outside jobs done, having washing on the line and sitting in my garden as the sun goes down as I know it'll be shit and dark at 4.30pm before long. All the days will seem good for is eating and watching telly til spring rolls around. So unproductive!

Mymanyellow · 16/08/2024 22:00

I don’t think we had many sunny days before the longest day though. I remember at work we were complaining that we hadn’t had a summer yet and it was the longest day soon.
Maybe if spring early summer was dryer it wouldn’t feel so quick.

It's never light at bedtime even on the longest day so not a problem.

Nights are drawing in; soon be Christmas.

My gran used to say that at the beginning of July every year.

treacledan71 · 16/08/2024 22:49

I do prefer the winter but DH doesn't. He insists when we go away to UK we go first week of thr kids' holidays as doesn't get dark so quick as we noticed suddenly now it does.

MrsMouse03 · 16/08/2024 22:51

To be honest I always think of August as a transition month. Once September comes, any lovey weather is a bonus So less disappointing if weather is awful.
I used to love summer but now enjoy the dark evening so I can put the lamps on and at some point light the fire .

I love summer longer daylight hours and the warmer days. I love all the colours of Autumn but the darkness seems to feel so endless.

Greengagesummer65 · 16/08/2024 22:53

Woohoo! I was ready in June :-)

I see people are tactfully avoiding mentioning the dreaded snuggling…under a blanket….etc

Thank God! The moment MN starts snuggling under a blankie with a hot choc, I'll be off 😂

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 16/08/2024 23:13

I noticed it this evening as well and find it very depressing.
The weather hasn't been nice for a decent amount of time. In the garden my flowering plants are fading away. The shops are advertising Halloween and even Christmas stock.
I fucking hate even the mention of 'hot chocolate'. and 'cosy nights' and I dislike driving in the dark so am screwed really.

Same, I don't really feel like we've has summer yet.

sanityisamyth · 16/08/2024 23:18

I fucking hate autumn. Everything about it is depressing. Leaves changing colours is just the tree shutting down for winter. Only cold and wet, dark days to look forward to for months and months and fucking months on end.

eggandchip · 16/08/2024 23:23

I cant wait for winter time.

gingercat02 · 16/08/2024 23:23

Yes makes me sad too, especially as summer up here didn't start until mid July. I am not ready for Autumn yet.
