🇪🇺🇨🇭European countries are increasingly refusing to purchase Swiss weapons
Swissinfo cites https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/foreign-affairs/european-nations-snub-swiss-made-weapons-over-ukraine-restrictions/87599015 Germany as an example, which has close ties to Switzerland's defense industry but has excluded several Swiss companies from tenders due to Switzerland's refusal to allow the re-export of ammunition to Ukraine.
The Netherlands has also limited the purchase of Swiss arms due to the blocking of the re-export of 96 Leopard tanks stored in Italy. According to media reports, similar decisions have been made by Spain and Denmark.
"These statements do not deal a serious blow to the Swiss defense industry, but they show that Europe wants Switzerland to change its course. Swiss companies should be able to export their products both for financial reasons and to remain integrated into international supply chains," writes Swissinfo.
The publication reminds readers that Switzerland does not supply weapons to countries engaged in conflict, as its neutrality prohibits this. However, a referendum is expected in 2025 to decide whether to allow the re-export of weapons to countries exercising their right to self-defense.
