I have taken 2 pics one is older but its just to show the room. The single bed is no longer there it's the double bed under the window.

Money is short so I need to work with what I have . Although I may buy just one ikea type storage.

I have shown a picture of a coloured wall theses are the colors i have that I can use . But ( no) blue

Couple things to note is is will be ds 9 room . He can't make his own choices for how the room will be .

No clothes are kept in the room.

I want it yo feel like a happy child's room

A bedroom should be calming. That third photo looks like the inside kind of an insane person.

If you can't use blue then go for green and cream.

Always keep an eye on free stuff on fb or ask on a local neighbourhood fb site if anyone is getting rid of any storage, leftover paint etc. That will then give you a few more options. A nice, fun lightshade would perk things up. Like a hot air balloon or similar. Could you stencil something on the walls that your son likes or that you think he might enjoy, such as animals or cars or numbers or whatever!

That's one of the bedrooms she's previously done for one of her children.

It might be a bit too stimulating for a bed room with all those colours, if money is tight you could dye the curtains and do you need more storage? I can’t really see what that furniture is that’s already in the room. White is lovely and calm for a bedroom maybe just jazz it up with a decal pack of his favourite characters or whatever. We did this with Mario i painted one wardrobe Mario red and the other Luigi green and added the decals which only cost £20

@Favouritefruits I love what you did!

Also love the Dunelm idea that @SaintHonoria posted.

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/08/2024 19:27

What stuff is your DS in to?

That's the sort of thing my children like. And I'm proud of it . I want it to be happy

Yeah I was hoping to do something similar. I'm just not sure it would work in a small room

I thought the third picture with the crazy paving wall was your 'inspiration' picture not one of your actual bedrooms!

He's 9 and his tastes might change in the next two years from the zany brightly coloured look to something a bit more sophisticated.

I don't mind if his taste changes in a couple of years. It's not his for ever bedroom decor that he has to keep till he leaves home .

Wallpaper is a nightmare to get off if he wants to re-decorate in 2-3 years. I found that DD moved along a lot from a 9y old to a 12/13 year old. So we kept it fairly neutral and when she hit her teen we gave her more choices when we did a total make-over.

Can you do it more neutral or with just paler colours and go mad with fabric? Bedding, rugs, posters, wall stickers, lamps?

The room is empty apart from the bed and a very basic desk that won't get used. The only thing I was considering buying was an ikea storage cube unit that I can add the basket things to . Then I wanted to use the paint I have oh abd a cheap and cheerful light shade..

I definitely don't want to dye the curtains . I would mess lt up

@Thisismynewname2024 I remember you posting pics of the other room before!

Does your 9yo have SEN? (Just you say he can't choose himself)

How much 'busy' do you think he can take??

Does he need a double bed? It's taking up a lot more space (doh - pointing out the bleeding obvious)

I love the lime green, it's a shame you haven't any of the blue left, it's a great shade!! Personally I'm not keen on the other colours, but if you/he are could you do narrowest (say4") stripes on one wall & the others lime green. OR OR OR... with your talent & patience, all the walls lime green with spots (circles about the size of the end of a can)

Loubelle70 · 14/08/2024 19:49

I love that colourful bedroom, its ace!. And pretty amazing tbh.
How about coloured zig zags on wall?

Im sure youll think of something better than me, because that wall and rug ✊♥️

Use the paint you have and go on freecycle for freebies.. storage etc xxxx

longtompot · 14/08/2024 19:51

@Thisismynewname2024 Could you find a rug he likes and then do a similar colour palette and shapes on the wall? In the one you posted the rug & wall are similar.

KeebabSpider · 14/08/2024 19:52

I always find it easier to choose bedding and curtains first, then rugs. Finally choose wall colour that will coordinate.

Doubled is not needed. But it's been slept on maybe 3 times . So im not willing to replace at the moment.

Yeah ds has special needs .

He does not mind busy . I was thinking possibly stipes . I don't think I have enough lime green for 3 walls only one I think. I can't do circles I would mess it up.

What about something like this link? But with the colours you've got rather than these more pastel shades.

https://akailochiclife.com/2018/10/colorful-playroom-refresh-diy-striped-wall.html

It sounds like you will have various amounts of different colours, so my initial thought of vertical stripes might not work, because you will need enough to finish the space.
