I have taken 2 pics one is older but its just to show the room. The single bed is no longer there it's the double bed under the window.

Money is short so I need to work with what I have . Although I may buy just one ikea type storage.

I have shown a picture of a coloured wall theses are the colors i have that I can use . But ( no) blue

Couple things to note is is will be ds 9 room . He can't make his own choices for how the room will be .

No clothes are kept in the room.

I want it yo feel like a happy child's room

What about something like this link? But with the colours you've got rather than these more pastel shades.

https://akailochiclife.com/2018/10/colorful-playroom-refresh-diy-striped-wall.html

It sounds like you will have various amounts of different colours, so my initial thought of vertical stripes might not work, because you will need enough to finish the space.

I like that idea to. Thank you

I love the colourful room! I've always loved colour though. You did a brilliant job with it.

Two (sort of opposing) thoughts:

  1. would bigger shapes work in the smaller room rather than the busyness of the wall you did before?
  1. Or, should you just do the pattern in a section of the wall and leave the rest white?

I've attached a few screenshots.

Then if you do a multicoloured wall, I'd pick white bedding with a small pattern in one of the colours, and IKEA storage baskets in white or another colour from the wall.

Working with the blue curtains, I would say the green and yellow work best together.

Maybe just corner triangles like this in one or two corners. And leave the rest white.

Then get a secondhand solid wood storage cabinet with lower cupboards as toy storage and upper shelves for books or whatever for the wall right where the door is. As it’s solid wood you can just hand sand lightly then paint with a darker blue/ navy wood paint as a statement piece. These kind of solid old pine stuff is often given away for free on marketplace or very cheap.

Add navy blue bedding. Add his cushions and toys.

See this was sort of my thinking to. Really wanted simlar to the other room I done. But im not sure it would work because of the room being small. I like your ideas to. Im gonna screen shot them. So I don't forget. Ds I'd going away for a few nights so I'm going to do it then

What about circles different sizes and colours on a white background?

Soditsally · 14/08/2024 21:01

I don't have a single creative bone in my body .. but just want to say how happy I am to see a different style of user name for you

And you are still facing challenges but being positive and getting shit done 💐!

I have to. I need to set thinds aside for a while. So I can be in a better mindset . So I'm staying as positive as I can.

Kids are away in about a week ish. So I want to get ideas and whilst they are gone sort out the small room

I am not good at creativity so don't have any new suggestions, but I think this is the one I like most out of other people's ideas.

The corner triangles connect the pattern to the other room but in a way that'll suit the smaller room better and feel like a different space still. If that makes sense.

If you wanted to add the semi circle shapes, tying a piece of string to a pencil to use as a compass will let you outline a perfect circle shape.

How about a big rainbow?

IsometimeswonderwhoIam · 14/08/2024 21:34

I would do each wall in a different colour so still fun but not over stimulating.

I won't be able to do that. I do.t think he would like it either to be honest .

I think (assuming the curtains are staying) that the orange would work quite well.

I really like the triangles@Caspianberg suggested above and think they could work well in a smaller room. I really like the aeroplane and circles etc as well. I wonder if a tester or two would be enough to give you another colour as it's a small room and you could then use the orange and something that tones with the turquoise/teal of the curtains.

PiggieWig · 14/08/2024 21:41

With the colours you have, what about doing a sun rising over mountains?

I can’t find exactly what I’m thinking, but a mixture of these two kinds of things…

They aren’t an exact design but you seem creative enough to be able to do it yourself with masking tape, making mountains with the green and sun from the reds and oranges.

You’ve said about not being able to do circles and rainbows etc but that 3rd pic is amazing! You did that? Wow!!

How about puzzle pieces or Lego blocks?

Definitely...bigger zigzags, less busy. I like the idea and the rug will still go cxxx

BobandRobertaSmith · 15/08/2024 00:32

Some lovely ideas! And great that you are powering on with your home transformation.

FWIW you could definitely do circles, spots or other shapes, if you wanted. I’m guessing you used masking tape for your other masterpiece but it’s easy to make a stencil for other shapes (or buy one). A stencil brush and stencil would only be a few pounds each.

As an alternative to stencilling, what about using shaped sponges to print things on the wall? They can be very cheap for a pack of different shapes, & some have handles which should be less messy.

You have some great suggestions here.

My ideas are -

Colour block would probably be better than a busy pattern in a smaller room.

If doing a whole wall pattern/shapes eg stripes, diagonals, circles etc then I would dilute the colour intensity by mixing white to tone down a bit.

An example is attached- a sunbeam pattern but in more subdued but still joyful colours.

Happy painting!
