What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

thank you

If you have to pull trailers containing horses, or trailers full of pig, sheep, and other livestock, then having to own a 4x4 to pull those trailers on off-road conditions is understandable.

However, the claims about "safety" are incorrect. The data and evidence is overwhelming that SUVs are more hazardous than conventional cars, both to passengers inside the car and people outside of the car. This evidence has already been presented.

Let’s agree to differ, my main buying point not a single fatality as a passenger or driver of the Volvo is huge, nothing like it for safety it’s packed full of safety features for driver and pedestrians, look it up, I can’t recommend them
enough we are just looking at a xc60
as a second car

I am hoping that this turns out better for me than the last MN recommended purchase I made. A dress from Hush which everyone said was amazing. To be fair I was amazed that I paid £65 for something that made me look like an american footballer who was 16 months pregnant.

I know exactly the bastard dress you mean. I bought it too <sad>

Just Google 'are electric cars more dangerous for pedestrians'.

shuggles · 12/08/2024 16:51

@Thisismynewname23 Let’s agree to differ,

We can't agree to differ because this is not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. "Agree to differ" is what people do when say, they can't agree on what colour of carpet looks better. In this case, the facts are overwhelming that SUVs are extremely dangerous vehicles, both for passengers and those outside of the SUV.

my main buying point not a single fatality as a passenger or driver of the Volvo is huge,

You bought a car because there haven't been any fatalities for passengers of the vehicle?

Is that it?

So just forget about everyone outside of the vehicle, right? "Me me me."

I was really enjoying this thread until the car chat derailed it!

I know, me too. There's always one.

No I’d rather you share the report which has convinced you.

I’m a scientist so proper referencing of statements is something very important to me

otherwise statements such as yours can seem glib and inaccurate at best, and downright untruthful and misleading at worst.

but I’m sure you can provide me with a valid study to support your data.

Blatant threadjacking is one of the more annoying features of this forum.

I think a 'nesting' system would be much better. That would mean all the off-topic stuff is just in its own little 'nest' rather than derailing the whole thread.

UnOeufIsEnough · 12/08/2024 17:50

Well, one thing that I love is my hot water dispenser in my bedroom. I press a button and the correct amount of hot water pours into my cup and my green tea steeps nicely while I'm in the shower. Totally unnecessary but makes me very happy!

Arraminta · 12/08/2024 17:50

Sounds like an excellent idea. It's always the same topics that set off the rabid frothers too.

FizzingAda · 12/08/2024 18:01

This was a lovely affirming thread til it got hijacked. Why do people have to quarrel about something unrelated to the thread?
one thing that would make life better is people taking their disagreements elsewhere.

FizzingAda · 12/08/2024 18:18

My Kindle clicker arrived today, it's brilliant! No more cold hands reading in bed in the winter. Thanks to those who recommended it 🙏.

I'm a scientist too and IMO there's a time and a place for proper referencing but a chat thread on a parenting forum isn't it.

So, another one for me today, my big sun umbrella in the garden, whatever the angle of the sun I can always find some shade to sit in.

I am vain and shallow enough that it does make me feel better haha. I bought it in horizontal stripes as well 🙈

I've avoided S&B threads ever since.

Gah, so did I! And the horizontal stripes made me look wider than I thought humanly possible?

RubyDarke · 12/08/2024 18:26

Matching 'good' Staffordshire crockery in use every day. Earthenware so goes through dishwasher but looks lovely and is so much nicer than cheap imports. We first had it 28 years ago and last year went and restocked plus fabulous big pasta bowls. It makes every meal and even a bowl of cereal a pleasure (all bought as 2nds in annual pottery marquee sale so not even too expensive)

UnOeufIsEnough · 12/08/2024 18:35

@seriesoffortunateevents I press the button then go straight in the shower. No need to wait for the kettle to boil then pour. Like I said, an unnecessary luxury that makes me happy!

CollieDug · 12/08/2024 18:36

@EasilyDisturbed

you will see from my earlier posts that I engaged entirely in the spirit of this thread and even came back to mention how I’d bought a couple of things as a result. it really was is a lovely thread

But tackling climate change - and its significant consequences on all of us - is far far more important. So apologies but I will ask someone for appropriate references when they’ve made an unsubstantiated comment which risks influencing people who are making decisions impacting climate change. I’m also autistic so tend to get quite exercised about truth and fairness.

but I’ll leave you now having clearly misread the societal expectations and social cues and send myself back off to special needs mumsnet.

EasilyDisturbed · 12/08/2024 18:50

I'm sorry @CollieDug , it just winds me up when a chatty thread descends into arguments and demands for peer reviewed studies or whatever in a chat thread are a real bugbear of mine because it fans the flames. I know you didn't start this argument so perhaps it was unfair to pick on you. For what it's worth I drive a hybrid and am very concerned about the environment but I just don't think a thread like this is going to change anyone's mind about their car choice. Obviously I didn't know you are autistic either, Inhave close family members who are so I do understand that it makes social cues harder. Don't feel you need to hide, I've had snarky comments made to me at times, it happens but it's not personal.
