Mine's a beautiful Oliver Bonas necklace I bought myself with some birthday money.

I never normally spend so much on jewellery, but decided I wanted something that felt a bit more special. Then I lost it. No idea if I lost it at home or out and about but I tore our house apart looking for it with no luck. It's still not turned up over a year later 😞

I keep checking Vinted and eBay in the vain hope someone might be selling one but no luck so far. Maybe one day I'll find it down the back of the sofa (despite having looked there on many occasions for many lost items)

Has anyone else lost something that they still think about? And has anyone ever found something in the most random place years later? Give me hope please 😁

A dress my late mum made for me when I was around 3-4 years old. She often made us clothes as she was really good at sewing. She made this beautiful little lilac dress and spent weeks lovingly embroidering a bluebird and some flowers on it. She died when I was 17 and I kept this dress for years in a special little box with the idea that one day I would be able to give it to a future daughter. My older brother had a daughter first and I stupidly loaned him the dress for her to wear in a family photo. He didn't return it right away but said he'd put it somewhere safe. His relationship broke down soon after and his ex took all of his stuff and dumped it by the side of the road somewhere. The dress was amongst this stuff so I never saw it again. It still breaks my heart, especially since I went on to have my own daughter and I could never give her the dress.

A Playmobil figure. DD played with it all the time. It used to play the roles of Christopher Robin, Mowgli, and whoever else she needed in her little games with her other toys. One day it disappeared into thin air, never to be seen again.

Perhaps it is currently playing the role of The Invisible Man?

A wooden necklace with a star on the front. Left it on an overnight bus to London. It cost me the hefty sum of £1 at a car boot sale, but I loved that necklace. Still look for it to this day if I'm in charity shops.

My engagement ring, I wasn't allowed to wear it at work so was always taking it off at the last minute and chucking it on a random shelf. 1 day it couldn't be found, wondered if I'd vacuumed it up or if my young dd had disappeared it (she had form) or it had been nicked .
Any how 8 years later it was found in a random filing cabinet drawer where Dh had safely stored it then forgotten. It no longer fits 😂

FantasticFox27 · 08/08/2024 08:09

A bracelet dh brought me for our wedding day. I NEVER wore it out the house, but we've moved twice and haven't come across it in either move.

Jifmicroliquid · 08/08/2024 08:11

My dissertation. I printed out two copies, one to hand in and one to keep. I was so proud of it.
It got accidentally thrown out during a clear out. Nearly 20 years later and I’m still annoyed about it.

My dsis bought me a couple of books for Christmas when I had newborn DD. I took them to the shop to exchange for a gift card (after checking if she’d mind) as I just didn’t have time to read them. In the newborn fog I thought I lost the voucher at the shop but thankfully found it in the changing bag. Then promptly thought I’d lost it again but finally saw it in my bedroom and thought, thank god I’ve managed to get it home safely! Yep, I’ve put it somewhere ‘safe’ and periodically search all over the house for it. It’s only about £35 but it expires this coming Christmas and represents the true brain fog I felt during the early days. Very annoyed at myself for not being able to recall where I’ve put it.

A beautiful tie dye sarong I bought when travelling in SE Asia. I took it around the world with me and it doubled up as beach/bath towel, cover up, privacy screen in hostels....so many happy memories. Such a silly thing but I'm gutted it's lost, and I'll never find another one

theveryhungrybum · 08/08/2024 08:47

A beautiful garnet and pearl ring that belonged to my mother. I stayed at my boyfriend's house for the night, took it off and put it in my handbag which was on the kitchen bench. It was gone the next day. We hunted high and low, asked his housemates if they'd seen it, searched in and around my car. It never turned up. It wasn't valuable, but was precious to me as it was given to my mother by my father. Seems clear to me that one of my boyfriend's housemates went through my bag and took it, but I could never prove that.

An antique silver ring with a cracked green stone that my Nanna bought me from a little second-hand shop outside Greyfriars in Edinburgh, just before she died.
I was only 15 and wore it constantly (even at school when we weren't supposed to, but she'd died within weeks of buying it for me, so it was my link to her as we'd been very close since I was born) and my friend "looked after it" during a PE lesson that she wasn't taking part in and she lost it in the shower room.

I'm 47 now and still miss that ring and what it meant to me.

A fat face scarf, I had matching gloves to go with it. I left it in the lecture theatre at University and when I went back it was gone. I was gutted.

A pink, soft, wool sweater that I was given for Christmas when I was about 12 or 13. It came from Miss Selfridge and I have never seen a sweater since in that shade of pink since. It just suited me so well and I'd love to have another in that shade.

Two dresses that disappeared during a house move for no clear reason given the flat was empty when we left, and everything was moved in our car to the new flat.

Another dress I got in a flea market in Toronto that definitely made it home in my suitcase yet was never worn, and not given to the charity shop. Yet it disappeared from my wardrobe.

A soft toy rabbit that I think my mum gave to the charity shop by accident when I was about 2 or 3.

A very very long pink stripy scarf. I miss it every winter.

A matchbox necklace, it was my grandmothers, it had a very distinctive dent in it and was engraved RO, unfortunately I do think a cleaner stole it because there is literally nowhere else it could have gone- we moved house since and it never showed up.

Helpaladyoutplease · 08/08/2024 10:24

All my shoes. Literally all apart from pair i was wearing... moving house and they got put in a black bag which must have got taken to dump accidentally. Still go to get a pair from wardrobe then forget... so sad!

I had a beloved gold ring when I was in my teens. One day I went to the loo and put it on the window ledge while I washed my hands, then went downstairs. I got to the bottom of the stairs and remembered I hadn’t put my ring back on - went back upstairs to grab it but it was gone.

That was 25 years ago and it’s never turned up. Since then the bathroom has been gutted and fully refurbished and the floor lifted but the ring still hasn’t been found. Where did it go?

Was the window open? Magpie or jackdaw

Mine is a piece of artwork made by my late son. I managed to get a print of it, but the original is lost. I think someone took it around the time of his death. It upsets me dreadfully not knowing what happened to it.

saidthebellsofstclements · 08/08/2024 10:36

A photograph of me and my son when he was a baby, I took it out of a photo album and put on the side to frame and haven't seen it since, this was twenty years ago.

BoxOfCats · 08/08/2024 10:43

A favourite necklace that I lost. After 6 months I couldn't bear it and sucked it up, ans stumped up the cash for another (not cheap!). Of course, a week after I'd been wearing the new one, the old one turned up. Now I have two of the bloody things! I guess at least there's a spare in case one goes missing forever.

pepperrabit · 08/08/2024 11:42

When I was maybe 7. I was playing with a toy animal in the snow and it was one of those really big, sturdy toy animals. I believe maybe from Argos. And I buried it in a bit if snow and then when I went back to it, it disappeared. There was no one else around other than my dad and then we came back the next day when it had cleared mostly and still no sign of it.

It always pops into my mind what happened to it and rarely when I'm in that area I still go and have a look 🙈

Pedallleur · 08/08/2024 12:07

A parker pen from years ago given to me by my parents. Someone at work 'borrowed' it. And my bike bag with debit cards and an expensive rain jacket inside which fell off my bike somewhere on an 8 mile ride. Realised it had gone, turned round and rode the route 3 x. Some of it on a gravel trail. No bag but it wasn't on the trail or main roads so I presume it was picked up. This a fortnight ago.

TheOutdoorLife · 08/08/2024 12:15

A silver bracelet with hearts on it and a silver chain with a small diamond in it. dh bought me them when we 1st started dating many years ago.
In between house moves and our parents storing boxes for us - they’ve gone missing. It’s been about 4/5 years now & I’ve never found them. They seem to have vanished.

SingingSands · 08/08/2024 12:19

A lovely watch that DH bought me when he was on a trip to Munich. I put it "somewhere safe" when I was pregnant with DD... 21 years ago!!

Every so often I will empty a drawer and think "it must be in here!". It's become my Holy Grail 😁

Tarkan · 08/08/2024 12:29

A conversation with a friend this morning reminded me of one of mine. It's not expensive but it was a beautiful dark green jade ring that I bought from a jade shop in Juneau, Alaska when I was over there 11 years ago. I've moved house twice since then and I'm hoping it's just accidentally ended up in the loft rather than lost. 😞

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/08/2024 12:33

A beautiful pair of Russell & Bromley boots that went missing 20 years ago when I was moving house. The man-with-a-van probably stole them because they were pristine and still in their box and bag.

I still mourn them, even though the reason they were pristine was because they were really too tight on my fat ankles for me to wear them much 😔.

Blueuggboots · 08/08/2024 12:40

A miss piggy mug that I adored when I was a child. I presume someone broke it and didn't tell me because I was a mardy git as a child probably undiagnosed ND.
