Mine's a beautiful Oliver Bonas necklace I bought myself with some birthday money.

I never normally spend so much on jewellery, but decided I wanted something that felt a bit more special. Then I lost it. No idea if I lost it at home or out and about but I tore our house apart looking for it with no luck. It's still not turned up over a year later 😞

I keep checking Vinted and eBay in the vain hope someone might be selling one but no luck so far. Maybe one day I'll find it down the back of the sofa (despite having looked there on many occasions for many lost items)

Has anyone else lost something that they still think about? And has anyone ever found something in the most random place years later? Give me hope please 😁

Lots of things! I can't seem to hold on to things for long.
A pretty rainbow headband in year one at school. We weren't allowed to wear them for PE so I took it off and put it in my PE bag as we got changed. After PE it wasn't there, I emptied it out and searched all over the classroom but it had vanished. That was more than 30 years ago and I haven't seen it since.
A birthstone ring my friend bought me for my 18th birthday. I was scared it would tarnish if I got it wet so I took it off to wash my hands at work. Forgot to put it back on but when I dashed back to the toilets 5 minutes later it had gone. I asked everyone if they had picked it up to please return it but no one did.
More recently, a project my daughter did at school that earned her a head teacher award. We moved not long after the end of year and it got lost. I certainly didn't throw it away so it must still be in a hidden box somewhere we have forgotten about. I think the ring and headband are long gone but I live in hope we will come across this again one day!

A toy hand puppet I was so attatched to. It got left in a supermarket.. went back to get it, never to be seen again. I honestly feel it was like a first bereavement for me. I think I was about 5 or 6. Small enough to still be on a seat on the back of my mums bike! And the supermarket was kwiksave.
I am 40 and would pay money to have him back.
My mum tried to get me replacement hand puppet toys, but it was never the same.

My grandmother’s diamond ring that I think my boyfriend stole when I was 16. I’m 50 this year.

A pepper grinder went missing in my house and I've never found it.

Bluejayshello · 07/08/2024 23:06

A watch with a white leather style strap and yellow clock face. And flower petals all around

I loved that watch! No idea where it went but maybe I could find it on eBay as it was from Argos in the 90s

when i was very young, maybe say 11 or 12, i wa given a small glass swan by a teacher, i forget why she gave it too me, but it meant a lot to me. i kept it safe and one day i displayed it on my bedroom window sill in the sunlight and it just exploded!

i think of this little swan often.. my childhood wasn't great and it was the nicest thing anyone had ever given to me and it was mine.

A ring which my great grandmother had given my grandmother when she was 16. My great grandfather committed suicide when my gran was 11 and my great gran had saved like mad for this ring. I was closer to my gran than either of my parents and spent many holidays with her growing up.

I had lost weight and it suddenly flew off my finger when I was quite far out sea swimming. I cried so hard I couldn't see to swim back for ages.

Quarter carat diamond stud earring. Lost somewhere in the house, but only found one when clearing out to move.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/08/2024 23:14

My late mum's engagement ring, which she'd given me quite a while before she died as her finger swelled. It was in my jewellery box on the side in my bedroom, and the kids sometimes used to get the box down and play with the contents. I went into the room one day and saw a silver chain on the floor so supposed that they'd had it down - the ring has never been seen since. The kids were too young to have stolen it, too old to have flushed it down the loo, and every one of them has denied all knowledge of what happened to it.

A necklace I inherted from an aunt. It was a silver daisy with metal 'quilled' petals and a black stone centre. I used to wear it all the time. Took it off at a boyfriend's house, put it 'somewhere safe'... never to see it again. Checked all my pockets, pulled his house apart - then his house burned down, so if it had been there it won't be now!

A gold bangle. I think I left it in or on the bed of a hotel. The amount of times I still look through my bag I had that night as if it will turn up years later.

A Burberry coin purse, I got the bus to the hospital to visit my baby in NICU and after paying the fare. I must have left my little coin purse on the bus. Annoyingly it also had my house key in on the little chain. I was heartbroken to get the bus home and realise I was locked out.

I hate losing stuff 😪

My dd blanket coming back from Menorca when she was 18 months. Not expensive or too sentimental but I still think about it. I contacted the airline and both airports but no sign of it.

Helen1625 · 07/08/2024 23:25

A gold necklace with a clown pendant on and a gold gate bracelet. They belonged to my mom and were kept in her jewellery box. They were in there shortly before she died. I looked in the box some weeks after her death and they were gone. It saddens me and angers me in equal measure that someone would have gone in there and taken them.

Alex Drake · 07/08/2024 23:29

My wedding ring. Never usually took it off at all but had a patch of dermatitis when DS was a baby so took my engagement ring and wedding ring off to apply some hydrocortisone cream, left them on beside table. When I went to put them back on a few days later my wedding ring was gone but engagement ring was still there. I still wonder what happened to it. Years later when we replaced our bed I was convinced it would be uncovered but nope, same again another few years later when we changed the carpet, nope. Maybe the dog ate it?

MrsAvocet · 07/08/2024 23:36

My late Mum's wedding ring, which was the only personal item of hers that I had. My DD got my jewellery box out and tried everything on one day when she was about 10 or 11 and that ring was lost and never seen again, though I tore the house apart looking for it. I would swap all the other jewellery I possess to have that ring back.

A Pandora ring. Assumed ds gave it to the bloody awful gf he had at the time. She was an absolute nightmare teenager....

Aww man, the injustice of that would keep me awake at night.

A much loved item being stolen and just casually given away to someone you dislike - no less!

Kokomjolk · 07/08/2024 22:24

My Garmin Edge. Not because I was particularly devastated to lose it, though I was annoyed, but because I am 100% sure it was in our flat. We have since moved, so packed everything in the flat, reviewed every single item in every drawer, moved all the furniture obviously. And I didn't find it. Wheeeerrrre can it possibly have gone?

Likewise all the missing socks over the years. They seem to evaporate, or maybe there is a sock fairy in every house.

You must always sacrifice some socks to the god of laundry.
Them's the rules.

A romantic note written on a business card by a stranger on a train, many years ago.

Please tell me more!

This story is intriguing!

Aww, man - that anecdote is so touching.
I'm sorry to hear that @thursdaymurderclub

My Nan”s ring, we didn’t have many of her things after she died and I’ve never lost any jewellery before so I’ll always feel guilty that I lost it.

Speckledy · 08/08/2024 06:43

A vintage Parker fountain pen that I loved writing with. I used it at school and it vanished from the classroom one day. No one ever owned up to taking it. I'm 50 now and still think about that pen regularly. I've bought various similar Parker pens over the years but none has felt quite the same in my hand.

Hobbesmanc · 08/08/2024 06:55

My mum crocheted a lovely patterned blanket when I was little. All different coloured squares. It was brought out when we were poorly or sad. Loved it. I meant to save it when she died but somehow in the mess and stress of clearing the house it got lost. I still feel gutted that it probably went to the dump.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 08/08/2024 07:18

Ah - two things. I went to the Pink Floyd exhibition in the V&A and bought a top, postcards and I think some badges, then I left the bag on the train. I was super sad.

I had the most beautiful necklace from a boutique shop in Greenwich - it was a whole load of semi precious stones woven together with embroidery thread - it was like a V shape, swelling to a chunky ish point of about 2-3cm depth. It was fastened just with a hook and loop and as I was running for a train, the hook must have been pushed out and it fell out from under my coat. It wasn't so chunky that I felt it, sadly. I don't recall the manufacturer but I looked at the time and there weren't any left in the shop, or it had gone out of business or something. It was so beautiful - amethyst and peridot with the odd splash of jet, garnet or other colours. It sounds revolting and garish but it really wasn't. The stones were all jumbled together in a really organic way. I still mourn.

A Gucci watch that was a joint 40th birthday present from DH & DM. All I remember is wrapping it in a tissue so it wouldn’t get scratched in my bag when the battery needed replacing but not actually having that done as they wanted a ridiculous amount to do it. I don’t remember taking it out of my bag but weeks later I couldn’t find it so don’t know if I threw it out (forgetting the watch was in the tissue) or if it somehow fell out of my bag. I’d actually prefer the former as I couldn’t bear anyone else having it. It still makes me feel sick when I think about it.

My beautiful rust coloured coat from Asda.
