If you could live anywhere outside the UK where would you go?

I have lived abroad before but have been in the UK so I know there is good and bad in lots of places. DH has often said he would like to move to the forest to a cabin in Finland and have lots of dogs. I always thought it was a barmy idea.
He has a good job and technically we could live anywhere.
Where would you go if you could?

I am thinking Costa Rica.

Somewhere warm! But then again There's youtuber that lives on Svalbard and I love the idea of it. I'd hate it in reality though.
I think Italy or Portugal.
Your ideas seem very different how will you cone to a decision?

ColourByNumbers88 · 07/08/2024 19:31

Argentina.

ssd · 07/08/2024 19:38

Ohhh i dont know

NoandNo · 07/08/2024 19:48

I'm with your DH. Finland, or any of the Scandinavian countries, or maybe the Netherlands. I don't like heat though. Is it that easy though? Surely they will all have their own visa requirements etc . A cabin in the woods with dogs sounds like heaven. A humid rainforest full of bugs more like hell to me. Cold = no bugs. Can you tell I'm not a fan 😂

Oh I think about this all the time when I can’t get to sleep at night. I would have to move somewhere imaginary to meet all my requirements. I want somewhere warm but not too warm.
I would have a gorgeous little house and garden near the beach and countryside. The house would be filled with books, tasteful art and lots of plants and has a covered in porch to sit out on.The nearest place I can think of is a sort of Martha’s Vineyard type vibe. Not that I have ever been there😂.
I cycle along a quiet wild flower lined lane or promenade to a lovely cafe every morning. I have my little dog in the basket on the front of my bike. I have coffee and a pastry. Then some shopping at a delightful deli and bric a brac shops. I cycle home and tend to the garden, read, paint, swim, walk on the beach or just chill. I never cook and just live on deli bits, fresh fruit and salads, glasses of wine and my cafe visits. I dress in a slightly Diane Keaton incredibly stylish way.
Occasionally I visit art galleries or museums or go for a delicious evening meal to a restaurant. I also find a fantastic cleaning lady who also becomes a great friend. I can speak the local language fluently in my imaginary country and make some select good friends and a handsome occasional lover. I have two cats one ginger and one tortoiseshell. I usually fall asleep by this point!

We would love to move to Italy one day and plan to perhaps retire there

Thy sounds lovely! Can I come too?

Sellingbedtime · 07/08/2024 20:45

New Zealand. Maybe in wellington or Nelson. Or somewhere in the Coromandel peninsula. We should have done it years ago because now it feels like the dream is getting further away.

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 07/08/2024 20:47

We’d move to Greece! We love the slower pace of life, the food and lack of being bombarded by visual information all the time! No road signs every 10 yards, not that they take any notice of them anyway - and where we go, you can park practically anywhere!

CombatLingerie · 07/08/2024 20:49

Of course you can@Powderblue1 !

Harassedevictee · 07/08/2024 21:08

My own super yacht with an ice class hull so I could travel the world. There are ships that have apartments you can own which might be a cheaper option - but still outside my price range.

If it has to be land based then Monaco with a view of the harbour.

Time40 · 07/08/2024 21:26

Budapest, because of all the fabulous swimming pools.

Octavia64 · 07/08/2024 21:27

Morocco

Somewhere on the coast where I can swim every day.

Time40 · 07/08/2024 21:28

Ha! Two keen swimmers one after the other!

notprincehamlet · 07/08/2024 21:46

France. It's my happy place. If I had oodles of money I'd have a tiny apartment in the centre of Paris - behind huge wooden doors! - and somewhere with a gorgeous garden in the south/south west. Bliss!

BobbyBiscuits · 07/08/2024 22:08

Spain, Greece, maybe France. Italy as well, I love the area around Naples.

I went to Budapest in April and it was gorgeous.

You've convinced me, I'd love to come live in your imaginary world.

invisiblecat · 07/08/2024 22:27

Hypothetically speaking - probably Germany, but I don't speak German and I'm too old to learn easily, so that's out. Maybe New Zealand. But I hear it is expensive there, and they have their own troubles.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/08/2024 22:29

France or a Scandinavian capital city. Maybe Copenhagen.

secondspring · 07/08/2024 22:43

Not just us then🤣🤣

Kenya! Lakes, mountains, vibrant cities, good food, great weather, beaches, safari and more. I'd love a quiet home in the suburbs with a lush garden. Weekend trips all over the country.
