Not long to go for the men's 1500m Olympic final. Kerr is not short of self-confidence.

Exactly! Why are some people so keen to knock others down?

I agree I mean who is doing the same

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 06/08/2024 21:32

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/08/2024 21:09

I'd rather someone went with the latter than have no self belief.

Keely Hodgkinson doesn't lack self belief either but I haven't seen any criticism of her pre race film.

Again, those are not the only two choices.

I think JI came off the kerb to make JK run slightly further. Pushing him into lane 3 if he could.

Yep. Allowing Hocker to come though. That backfired.

Don’t bother running it if you don’t wanna win gold 🤷‍♀️

Ambition is something to be celebrated, not derided.

Did he win? Stunningly arrogant! (Self confident/cocky/whatever)

What a helpful post! 🙄

sunglassesonthetable · 06/08/2024 21:33

Another athlete who has spoken well is Siriex the diver. Just feels very honest and direct.

Exactly! Why are some people so keen to knock others down?

Only when they act like arrogant prats. That's not good sportsmanship.

whynotwhatknot · 06/08/2024 21:34

why do we put people down for this amerians ont get calle wankers for being confient

edwinbear · 06/08/2024 21:46

Will certainly be interesting to see how Ingebrigtsen gets on in his 5000m heat tomorrow.

Itisjustmyopinion · 06/08/2024 21:49

I think he comes across as an absolute prat and has done for a long time

There is being competitive and there is being an arrogant d-ck

Now look at someone like Keely Hodgkinson. Confident, yet humble. I know who I would prefer to cheer on. Oh and she was more successful but still is likeable

outdamnedspots · 06/08/2024 21:28

Not as bad as Jakob feels...

to be fair Ingebrigtsen already has something Kerr doesn't - an Olympic 1500m gold medal. Ingebrigtsen is also three years younger than Kerr so it will be interesting to see what happens in the future

Alexandra2001 · 06/08/2024 21:52

Josh Kerr is the current 1500m world champion, i think unless you can run a sub 4 min 1500m, might be better to shut up rather than show your ignorance of sport.

Bunnycat101 · 06/08/2024 21:52

Thing is though- people are talking about the mens 1500. When was the last time anyone was that bothered. The rivalry makes it more entertaining. The interesting thing is I bet Kerr would have been more upset to lose to Ingebrigtsen but he seemed pretty chuffed with his time and the silver medal. The American got very lucky as he could have been easily trapped on the inside. By moving Kerr out wide ingebrigtsen probably cost Kerr the gold and himself a medal as he opened up the space for the US guy to come thorough- he might actually be less gutted that he got 4th and Kerr silver than he would have been if Kerr had for Gold and he got the bronze. It’s this sort of stuff that makes it more human.

He can be a world champion and still have an awful personality

More successful people than him are still likeable

He comes across as an absolute bellend, you can have confidence and self belief without being an arrogant tit for brains.

You would think they would do media training with these guys - but maybe they have? He does not come across well for sure.

RenoDakota · 06/08/2024 22:01

Most definitely the former. Was still bigging himself up after getting the 'wrong colour' medal because he 'doesn't need to worry about what other people are doing'. Yes you do, you tool, if they are overtaking you in the biggest race of your life.

cardibach · 06/08/2024 22:12

AnnieMcFanny · 06/08/2024 20:01

The antics are only showmanship but he must be feeling like a right donut now.

Why? He ran a PB and British record didn’t he?

cardibach · 06/08/2024 22:12

AnnieMcFanny · 06/08/2024 20:09

Because he very clearly said he’d win the Gold during an interview.

He said he’d come for gold. He also said there was more than one other man to worry about.

Narcissisticflipflop · 06/08/2024 22:13

I’m Scottish, love his confidence! When he came 5th in the world champs in 2022 he decided that wasn’t good enough and upped everything, good for him I say we need more athletes with an ego and a drive to succeed

XelaM · 06/08/2024 22:13

Why is Kerr unlikable and Noah Lyles isn't? Or Adam Peaty?

Kerr put his money where his mouth is and ran a great race for Gold. He was unlucky and got Silver, but it's not like he didn't have the skills to back up what he was saying.

I prefer candid athletes than those media-trained to perfection 🙄

ApplesOrangesBananas · 06/08/2024 22:23

Of course I want us to win gold, however I watched tonight with a friend who knew him personally (not well) but still knew him and said he is a complete A hole

Popfan · 06/08/2024 22:23

Josh Kerr was great, I loved the whole build up and rivalry thing! It was also a fantastic race, I was shouting at the TV, so much so my teen actually emerged from his bedroom to see what on earth was going on!!!

WimbyAce · 06/08/2024 22:24

I really like his confidence, makes a change for Brits to say I am here for Gold. Keeley said the same but she managed to win it thankfully!

MellowYellow552 · 06/08/2024 22:24

I found this thread just now on trending threads. I watched the race and I watched this guy interviewed afterwards. I didn't see anything he said or did that was wrong. What has he been saying?
