@SerendipityJane

*The BBC managed to miss a 500,000+ strong demonstration in London a few years back, so 20,000 isn't anything to write home about.
*
Really wow! That's quite an oversight!

Hm despite some of the rampant bigotry recently i feel like i've also seen way more push back than i have previously on MN? can i count that as a win?

don't know if anyone else has the same experience

I think we are seeing Putins rat. Fascism has been rejected at the ballot box where it's been called out. If the US rejects Trump then 2024 will have a pretty good score card.

This article is shocking... the number of idiots who weren't participating but just 'went to have a look'. A 16 year old carrying an axe. All remanded in custody.
A company Director who sobbed in court that he might lose his business, he only went there 'out of curiousity' (despite wearing a balaclava and attacking police)

Others denying they were involved despite having a rock in a sock, throwing missiles at the police, carrying a baseball bat, knives, tools.

It was behind a paywall so I made it easy to read.

He had a balaclava in his car for emergency rioting did he?

As for the bastards shouting at the police that they hoped their kids were raped - i have no words.

bombastix · 07/08/2024 13:15

I am very interested to see what these keyboard warriors get, because this is the way this hate has spread. Many years please

ForYouManImADoomBoy · 07/08/2024 13:17

i genuinely didnt even know you could still buy balaclavas in the shops, havent seen them since , what, the late 80s maybe?

SerendipityJane · 07/08/2024 13:18

I find myself idly musing about finding a way to make people pay per byte for internet access. And indeed for access to media platforms.

Going back, no one started a campaign saying how unfair it was <insert rag title here> weren't printing every letter.

As I say, idle musings. Absolutely no thought whatsoever as to practicalities or outcomes. So probably oven ready for the next Tory manifesto.

agreed, a lot of that in place. but it is nice to see more pushback against those kinds of comments than i'd seen before!

PickAChew · 07/08/2024 13:24

Balaclavas tend to be sold as helmet liners so are still readily available.

I bet the price history on camelcamelcamel is at a high point.

Conflicted: there is word of a planned 'event' in my town. Should I go to oppose or not add to the oxygen?

Reading between the lines of that exchange NF is basically saying if he wasn't British born these riots would be justified and that they should have confirmed he was because it would have prevented riots.

So yes, he's saying all this law and disorder would be justified if he wasn't British.

To me that's walking a tight line of inciting future hatred and riots if someone who isn't British commits a crime.

That was my interpretation as well. The LBC guy was good - didn't back down. You could tell Fromage was struggling to keep up so resorted to thinly veiled insults.

If you knew it was going to be a peaceful protest, and you were going to protest from the 'other side' then yes, by all means.

But given that these aren't protests, but riots, you an be sure that violence will be on the cards. Sadly, I say that to turn up would only exacerbate things.

PickAChew · 07/08/2024 14:07

At this point, I reckon that police would rather not have even more people to keep an eye on, particularly as current tactics seem to be to keep them spread as thin as possible.

I agree. Stay at home and let the police deal with the rioters.

I quite often carry an axe when I'm sight seeing......

Is that not normal 🤔🤦‍♀️😂

DrRiverSong · 07/08/2024 14:31

We’ve just been out and about and ended up coming back through Newcastle and Gateshead. Didn’t see any hoo hah but lots of police presence in terms of vehicles and on the beat too. It was very reassuring!

BIossomtoes · 07/08/2024 14:33

I was at Greenham - the police and army did sometimes act like mindless thugs!

Me too. The worst I saw was a female police officer. 😢

Eve · 07/08/2024 14:36

Is gelato tax ok? ( and I can confirm it was very good!)

Stagecoach are avoiding Newcastle City centre and the West end, this evening. I'll share, just for the smile we need, that some services from the West will be terminating at Two Ball Lonnen.

I'm not quite sure which of the following facts make Fartage look more dumb.

  1. the fact that he received and believed information given to him by Andrew Tate
  2. the fact that he has publicly admitted that he received and believed information given to him by Andrew Tate

A bit of an own goal either way really.

ForYouManImADoomBoy · 07/08/2024 14:48

city centre here is 'apparently' being closed down though im not entirely sure why

Jason118 · 07/08/2024 14:54

Thanks all for the sage advice. Feel I should do something, but stay away may be the best 'something' .

Well he has certainly provided all future interviewers with a "So, who are you trusting today, Nige ?" as an opening statement.

Maybe stating the bleeding obvious will become a thing in the UK, now it seems to be all the rage stateside ?
