Meanwhile, the Tories are starting to realise the effects of 14 years of Tory rule. They mismanaged everything so badly there is no new feed of ready-made (houseowning, feeling richer) younger Tories into the mill to replace the ones falling off the other end.

And no amount of toadying up to Reform voters is going to plug that electoral gulf.

Here’s the real crisis facing the Tories: their older voters are dying off, and nobody’s replacing them | Phil Burton-Cartledge

People used to shift rightwards with age. But the Conservatives have destroyed that prospect, and there’s no easy way out, says sociology lecturer Phil Burton-Cartledge

bombastix · 07/08/2024 11:48

Yes. Why would you vote Conservative? They have nothing for you if you are young and no chance to build a life. Like an animal that ate its own children to feed itself

More tears in court - don't remember all this crying in 2011

A man cried in court as he pleaded guilty to violent disorder after disturbances in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre on Saturday, PA Media reports.
Liam Ryan, 28 of Bradford pleaded guilty at Manchester magistrates’ court.

Yes what is this? Crying? Best to have stayed at home then.

itsgettingweird · 07/08/2024 12:11

I think the crying = buyers remorse!

I honestly think this bunch of fuckwits felt they'd be safe from the law because the are white British - despite their claims of 2 tier crap.

Remember that even though Starmer said he'd so what he did in 2011 and hunt these rioters down - 2011 and mostly ethnic minority perpetrators .

It actually shocks these people when they crap they claim to be true - is actually crap 😂

That’s awful. I saw a woman protester wrapped in an England flag waving a placard that said “My kids will know I didn’t stay silent”. Yes, they will know and I hope they’re thoroughly ashamed of her when they grow up. It’s not like Greenham, dear.

My daughter works in a shop owned by a Sikh family

someone came in yesterday and said there was a plan to attack it - she was scared but her boss just called his brother and nephews down - it didn’t happen but it would have been interesting to see a small mob of underfed bottom feeders taking on 5 very fit men who don’t take shit!

I mean I don’t condone violence but don’t expect people not to fight back!

I was at Greenham - the police and army did sometimes act like mindless thugs!

Is his name Paulie Walnuts?

Ha! Sadly not - his given name is Alvin but he’s generally known as Wee Man Bob - this was his kitten ball pit

It's people who claim they have nothing to lose, suddenly discovering they have everything to lose.

Bertie big bollocks (or ovaries) to a person.

While they are locked up, looks like the UK will need more immigrants to do the jobs these clowns now can't.

Derek Drummond, 58, of Southport has been sentenced to three years in prison after he admitted violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker in Southport on 30 July, PA Media reports.

For context, violent disorder is a max sentence of five years, assault of an emergency worker is a max of 12 months.

SerendipityJane · 07/08/2024 12:27

When did they remove being able to read as a requirement for Tory leader ? Presumably around the same time as the need to be able to think ?

Afternoon all. Thank you for the new thread.

After Humza Yousaf's statement yesterday Radio Scotland had a disturbing phone in this morning inviting listeners from ethnic minority heritage to talk about how they feel atm in light of the riots and racist violence. My overall impression was that Scottish people in general are fairly friendly and positive, or at least neutral about immigration and diversity, but there's a significant problem with racist abuse and violence here. Reports of police not following up incidents etc.

Holiday pic ( of my Scottish island 'ancestral homeland') as an attempt to pay tax.

I WANT a puss puss. Stamps foot while pouting immaturely.

@SerendipityJane

*The BBC managed to miss a 500,000+ strong demonstration in London a few years back, so 20,000 isn't anything to write home about.
*
Really wow! That's quite an oversight!

BustingBaoBun · 07/08/2024 13:04

This article is shocking... the number of idiots who weren't participating but just 'went to have a look'. A 16 year old carrying an axe. All remanded in custody.
A company Director who sobbed in court that he might lose his business, he only went there 'out of curiousity' (despite wearing a balaclava and attacking police)

Others denying they were involved despite having a rock in a sock, throwing missiles at the police, carrying a baseball bat, knives, tools.

It was behind a paywall so I made it easy to read.

Man detained for playing The Clash's "London Calling" in a taxi
