These 2 Plymouth rioters have been convicted of 209 previous offences + they told the police they were rioting because immigrants cost the taxpayer too much money.

Judge Linford made them work out how much their offending had cost Britain's taxpayers over the last 38 years.

That is glorious.

@BustingBaoBun hope your worries resolve, nothing worse than being kept awake at night it’s exhausting.

What happened last night was not funny. Far-left activists disrupted the event, which then had to be stopped for security reasons. This is done to intimidate people and suppress free speech. I won't stand for it. Would we see the same reaction if the activists were far-right?

Liz still not finding it funny. Everybody else still finding it hilarious.

It was funny! She can still speak. Unfortunately not without people laughing

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/08/2024 15:43

I’d have thought it was the definition of free speech.

MissMarplesNiece · 14/08/2024 15:57

It's the "I won't stand for it" in Truss's message that's made me laugh. I see her standing there, hands on hips, like my old head mistress. Only head mistress had sanctions to give out and no one ever laughed at her. Not sure what Truss has got - maybe she won't let us buy her book.

I sometimes wish I had her brassneck and lack of self-awareness.

SerendipityJane · 14/08/2024 16:14

Her (over) reaction is what makes it truly hilarious.

And I am waiting for her to try and slide a "look what you made me do" angle into it.

Even Theresa May was able to cope with a disintegrating podium that made her look like a clown.

This again reminds us that a hallmark of fascism and fascists is a total lack of humour.

Anyone pine for the glory days of Thatcher who defused a protest by instructing security not to eject someone with the zinger "It's always better where the Conservatives are" ?

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/08/2024 16:18

Theresa May came on stage to dancing Queen after everyone took the piss out of her for dancing in Africa. She knew how to take the piss out of herself.

Truss has no self awareness at all. Which is good. Because I’d start feeling a bit sorry for her otherwise.

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/08/2024 16:20

Trying to remember what Farage’s response was when they did it to him at one of his recent conferences.

I quite like the idea that all of the worst people are going to have to be checking ceilings in case of hidden projectors.

BustingBaoBun · 14/08/2024 16:28

The "I won't stand for it" is what makes me laugh. How on earth is she not going to stand for it, what is she going to do?! Stick her tongue out? Have a meltdown on Twitter... oh hang on, she's just done that!

I honestly think she could've scraped up a couple of brownie points here, (not much admittedly, but still...) if she had laughed along with it, asked them to pull it up, and just carried on. Yes, she is humourless. And very embarrassing. Now everyone knows how much lettuces hurt her, they will do it even more cos it's funny.

Whenever I hear someone moan about "freedom of speech" on multiple worldwide platforms simultaneously in video, audio and print, I always remember that what they mean is they really don't want anyone else to have freedom of speech.

E2A: Also her pathetic whining about it will guarantee it stays in the news much longer than it may have otherwise.

She really needs to make peace with the fact that historians in 2124 will be remembering her for the lettuce.

What I especially like about these actions is not just the message but the clear reminder that someone, or perhaps many disagree and have facilitated their humiliation.

That is very funny and very important - particularly because such people like to present themselves as an “authentic voice of ordinary people”.

She reminds me of dd aged about 2. Hands on hip, eye roll, saying "no, won't" and stamping her foot.

Usually followed by a hell of a tantrum, made worse if you laughed at her.

SerendipityJane · 14/08/2024 17:06

Since La Truss is butt of the moment, has anyone else mused on the fact that it's interesting statistically that the death of the UKs longest reigning Monarch ever happened to overlap with the shortest tenure of any UK Prime Minister ever ?

It's hard not to consider a divine hand somewhere ....

RafaistheKingofClay · 14/08/2024 17:15

I’d forgotten Truss killed the Queen as one of her first acts.

MissMarplesNiece · 14/08/2024 18:08

I "stole" this from Janey Godley. I hope she doesn't mind me posting it here

Just thought, this will be the second time she’s been beaten by a lettuce.

You're so right. To these people, 'freedom of speech' means 'the right to say whatever they want without being challenged, disagreed withy, mocked, ridiculed or in trouble with the law'. Unfortunately for them, real life doesn't work like that.

Willowkins · 14/08/2024 19:14

In my opinion, freedom of speech is the right to have a full, frank discussion and then agree to differ. It does not mean it's okay to tell some random stranger to blow up a building with people in it.

The point about it being on social media is a separate issue - it just means it's easier to prove.

SerendipityJane · 14/08/2024 19:20

All we need now is a Farrow and Ball shade "Lettuce Liz". Or "Truss Tanks". Either suits me.

The people with no plan have agreed a deal they ASLEF are happy to recommend to their members. Hopefully ending train strikes.
