I’ve just been accused of being a man/mansplaining. Normal day on MN lately…

The benefit bashers are out tonight, too.

Oh yes. If you have to claim benefits you should be refused them unless you have your dog put down. 😢

Just when I thought some posters couldn't get any more horrible they reach new depths.

I don't know what you mean here.

That he doesn't want to upset X users, instead of doing whats right.

Though its good to hear many Labour MPs are deleting X, we all should, if Musk continues like this (his 2hr interview with Trump sounded rather deranged) then X needs to be banned, hate and disinformation has no place in a democracy.

I think I'm missing something. What has Starmer done with Twitter?

I rather think that Starmer picking a fight with Musk would only amplify Musk's inaccurate & dangerous narrative in the UK.

Besides which we are a simply a warm up to the main event, the US election.

I think Starmer will think through how best to tackle misinformation online without making it personal. But I take your point - it does seem like it's the Wild West out there at the moment.

Notonthestairs · 13/08/2024 08:26

I do think after the love in between Sunak and Musk last year Sunak should have directly commented on the disinformation within Musks posts.

We dont need a Twitter spat with our PM involved but as Ex PM and given Sunsks particular encouragement to Musk in the past he was in a good position to step in regarding the existence(!) and application of UK legislation particularly the legislation he introduced to Parliament.

Twitter is a massive communications platform, can't see the government stop using it any time soon.

That's the problem, isn't it? I really wish Musk had never bought it.

SerendipityJane · 13/08/2024 10:32

Twitter is a massive privately owned communications platform, can't see the government stop using it any time soon.

is what you mean to say. And as long as we have the Times, Telegraphs and Mails and Expresses etc willing to punt the "correct" news, the die is cast.

I seeFarage still hasn’t bothered to turn up in Jaywick since the fire. Currently last seen in Brussels.

RafaistheKingofClay · 13/08/2024 11:35

Personally, the last thingI’d want if my house and 9 of my neighbours had burnt down / been damaged by fire is Farage turning up. But he is their MP.

Yet he tweeted after the fire, saying he would be coming to Jaywick 'in a few days'.
He lies.

Farage bring hypocritical?
Knock me down with a feather.

There really needs to be a book on how long he sticks as an MP.

I can't see him going five years.

Best bet is he throws a wobbly about "oppression" when asked for his financial dealings for the MPs register and refuses triggering a recall and by-election. Then he can wear the whine of the martyr and make it somebody elses fault.

DuncinToffee · 13/08/2024 13:57

We all know Brexit was a con, restrictions only apply to the 'little people'
,
But sovereignty Hmm

I was giving him a while after that tweet to see what he did. So far he has not surprised me.

Didn’t know about him living in Brussels. I knew 2 of his kids have German passports and he applied for one the day after the referendum.

If there’s a by election I can see him lasting as long as Galloway as Clacton gets buyers remorse. Not sure how long he lasts otherwise. He can get away with earning the salary while doing fuck all for a while as he proved as an MEP.

SerendipityJane · 13/08/2024 15:20

Mysteriously it's not a thing he likes talked about. Luckily GBNews and the Express know not to mention it.

I think he is already finding the obligations on an MP a bit onerous. He really is constrained in what he can say as an MP even outside the House.

But the main issue is having to explain his finances publicly. There's only so much he can claim in parliamentary expenses. So where is the rest coming from ? Bearing in mind I doubt he knows himself because he's a grifter. He genuinely can't be sure his income stream is squeaky clean. Russian SOP is to anonymously bankroll people of use so they can really act innocent. But you can bet your bottom dollar they are keeping the receipts.

Besides, who knows ? Maybe he is a really deep MI5 asset anyway ?
