Double stabbing in London - breaking news.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg5xx0gly8o

I'm so angry and also so sad.

What has happened to our country that men are stabbing young girls in broad daylight.

For sure...

The vaccines are provided by PharmaDoctor.

https://pharmadoctor.co.uk/

They do health checks, you can choose your vaccine (subject to availability) and it's done at chosen pharmacies, and (for me, quite important) they inform your Doctor so it shows on my NHS app.

I know about this because Jenny Eclair (similar age to me!) wanted one and asked on Twitter and a Doctor replied, so I went for it!

If you want to know anything else, just shout 😂

Nowhere near me but a Boots about 15 miles away does. I'm tempted. This is at least my 4th time through!

dontcallmelen · 12/08/2024 14:46

@Apolloneuro really hope you start to feel better very soon & everyone else who is unwell, think I caught on the flight home I’ve had it three times previously & never felt as bad as I do with this bout.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/08/2024 14:56

You should be able to get vaccine in Boots or other pharmacies now it is available to buy.

I do hope you get over it quickly.
I think there is a lot going round, the number of Olympic athletes collapsing after pushing themselves too far with covid was quite a few.

If they were young and fit covid wouldn’t be a problem. Or something.

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/08/2024 14:58

Hope everyone who is unwell with it starts to feel better soon. This wave seems to be hitting quite hard.

BIWI · 12/08/2024 15:11

I'm definitely going to try for a vaccine - not sure if I'll be eligible this autumn/winter, as I turn 65 very soon ( I have no idea how that happened!). I've had Covid 3 times now - thankfully none of them were more than a bad cold, and the last time (back in June) was just like a minor cold. But the prevalence of it right now does alarm me.

BustingBaoBun · 12/08/2024 15:27

I am older than you @BIWI and I'm not eligible... it's 75 to be offered one.

BIWI · 12/08/2024 15:29

Really? That's disappointing. DH, who is now 66, was offered one last year when he was 65. (No other issues other than his age that would make him more likely to have it).

Looks like I'll have to fork out for it then!

BIWI · 12/08/2024 15:30

Actually, looks like I will be eligible!

BustingBaoBun · 12/08/2024 15:40

BIWI · 12/08/2024 15:30

Oh my goodness, I promise I wasn't eligible when I researched before paying for one!
They honestly have changed it, it was 75.!!
That was written on 2nd August, and I had mine just before then. Typical!

I checked and double checked! Oh well, give it 3 months and I'll have another one...

PandoraSox · 12/08/2024 15:44

Interesting that they have widened eligibility again.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

itsgettingweird · 12/08/2024 16:06

Looks like ds and I will be eligible again then. He's under table 3 and I'm his carer.

If they offer it - I'll proffer my arm!

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/08/2024 16:59

I think the age is different depending on whether it’s a spring booster or an autumn one. People over 75 are also offered a booster in spring (alongside some immunosuppressed people). Between 65 and 74 you will only get one in autumn.

Might be worth checking which vaccine your GP is giving too. Last year they brought the autumn vaccinations forward due to a big wave at the end of summer/early autumn and used the previous year’s vaccine instead of the updated one to start with. This turned out to be not very effective against last winter’s strains. I’m not very clear on whether the JCVI recommendations for this year mean we’re using vaccines we purchased last year or we’ve already purchased updated ones for this year and are just waiting to receive them.

Saucery · 12/08/2024 17:04

I’ll probably pay for a private one if available in Autumn. It was bloody everywhere at school in the last few weeks of term, between 5 and 8 pupils off in each class, plus staff, one by one. Put enormous strain on everyone. Angry
Too much to hope that this govt will make a calculation that that isn’t sustainable in education again this winter?

I’m off sick for a non covid reason. Judging by the email I got this morning looks like Covid has taken out so much of our team we can’t work properly.

Dodged a bullet there. I’m done with infections this year.

Willowkins · 12/08/2024 17:18

I'm eligible for the vaccination - not quite 65 but I show up on Table 3.

looks like Tommy "two passports" Robinson may have to change his nickname

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/aug/12/tommy-robinson-passport-may-be-invalid-say-irish-mps

Hadn’t realised he’d tried to enter the US on someone else’s passport. That would make him an actual illegal immigrant wouldn’t it. Unless he was claiming asylum of course.

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2024 17:24

He is in trouble with the tax man as well

https://x.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1822359698160357686

Tommy Robinson, his ex-wife and his aide set up then dissolved companies without paying hundreds of thousands in tax— after making £1m+ in profit

They never filed accounts, a criminal offence. Insolvencies run by accountant he met in 2018

Hope he likes Athens. He might need to stay there if he doesn’t want to be arrested.

If he gets stuck there on a UK passport, he'll have to leave after 180 days ...

RafaistheKingofClay · 12/08/2024 17:30

There is that too…

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2024 17:37

He has left Athens for Spain already, probably didn't like the wild fires, the climate change denier
