Just been talking to my neighbour. He and his family are Nigerian. They haven't been here that long. Both work. They have small dcs.
He's had to take today off work as he works in a town that's been targeted and he's scared to travel.

I'm in tears I'm so angry. Those bastards wouldn't know how to fucking spell work. Luckily I got inside before I broke down. Dh is also teary. They're the loveliest family. I'm genuinely scared for my African neighbours. There's a lot of families moved here from the south because of a housing shortage. All of them that I've met are decent lovely people. Wish I could say the same for a lot of people who are from here.

We're broken aren't we? What the fuck is to be done?

It’s terrible. My colleague was telling me she’s terrified as there’s a planned riot in her town on Wednesday and she’s a Muslim, and wears a hijab so is scared to go out. It’s just shocking all this mindless thuggery

Naddd · 05/08/2024 21:13

Yep. All good on that front thank you for asking.
I've seen that graves in Burnley have been vandalised.
They won't leave even the dead in peace

They are the scum of the earth, disgusting.
@TransformerZ @Nadd I’m so sorry for the appalling behaviour you’ve experienced.

I’m not in the UK but it’s on the news here every day. Are they actually the same tossers going to different cities like a tosser’s tour or are there that many tossers altogether?

I think quite a lot are getting the train to a nice riot. Certainly the one here was slated to start at the railway station and march through the centre of town.

I am in Manchester for a short break, don't know the city at all. My DS 15 Asian wants to walk somewhere alone, I don't know the area. I would have said yes a few weeks ago, now I just don't know at all. Am I over protective? He thinks I am!

I have a 15 year old and live not far from Manchester.
I am really sorry to say that if my boy wasn't white I would not allow him to go for a solo walk in Manchester just now.

time2changeCharlieBrown · 05/08/2024 21:20

So sad i hate what this country is becoming
i also feel for those poor families it’s so upsetting and i Can’t begin to imagine how hard it must be
i I am a bit scared of how things are going it’s truely shocking

RaininSummer · 05/08/2024 21:20

I think it must be a mix of both local rent a mob and travelling tossers.

So sad but I’d have to agree about the area I’m in on this comment
it’s so unfair and really not right

@Naddd so sorry to hear that. Is there a community centre? Sometimes they're good for support. Even local Facebook pages?

I have to say the support I've seen on fb etc is great to see.

DopeyS · 05/08/2024 21:21

I deleted someone on Facebook today that I used to work with because I'm sick of the constant sharing of posts about 'boat people' and all sorts of racist posts and the banner on his profile picture is a picture of three of the black members of the English football team with 'we stand with our three lions #ukagainstracism'.

He just doesn't seem to see the irony in it at all and often that's the problem. The Muslim/Asian/black/insert anything else, are awful. But not the ones they know. They're fine and hard working. They just don't realise it at all.

@TattiePants Thank you, the people of Sunderland really have a cracking sense of humour and the ability to get bin references into the post's are phenomenal Grin Used to visit every year for the brilliant Airshow, and the great beaches at Seaburn and Roker.

God don't get the people of Sunderland started on the subject of the airshow. Complaints every year whilst it was running and now there's hell on because it's been cancelled.

Yep, some wheelie good puns..... My other favourite was a picture of a knight in armour and the comment "just because your shorts say Under Armour doesn't mean we can't see you". In case you hadn't gathered, she went rioting in illuminous pink shorts!

Do the tossers not have jobs or are they taking annual leave for this I wonder?

Hopefully they at least have jobs and pay taxes so they in some way can contribute to sort this mess out. Such hopeless men idiots.

alrightluv · 05/08/2024 21:22

Do we share neighbours? I could have written an almost identical post. Their children range in age from 4-18 and every single of them are bright, kind, hard working, intelligent and helpful. Their dad is an A&E consultant and I know that he's been called "a fcking P*i" more than once at work

It's awful. I'm furious. It's heartbreaking.

If people want to defend these thugs by suggesting that they're poor and hard done by then that holds no water... millions of people in this country fall into that category and very few of them are trying to burn down hotels or beat up the police

Absolutely this. I very much feel for communities that are chronically underfunded and people who feel trapped by circumstance but it’s entirely true that the vast majority of people in that category are decent and not out rioting and attacking or intimidating others. They are nasty, thuggish & ignorant and seems like we will all be better off if they are incarcerated for a good while. I’d be astounded to discover any of the people arrested do anything of use to society,

@Demonhunter I'm close to Sunderland. Middlesbrough is where my neighbour works.

A friend said he wants to give my neighbours money. He doesn't even know them. I don't know if they'd like my baking I could buy them a cake? If I see the wife soon I'll try to subtly ask if they're OK financially. She has a good job thank goodness.

I'm not surprised that your neighbour was worried about going to Middlesbrough, I think as soon as there was a protest arranged most people who live in the wider area knew how it would end (me included).

Some of them of course are rent-a-mob that have travelled but there's also locals, they've smashed up parts of the university and town, and I have seen that the very people they're 'protesting' about were also involved in organising and out on the streets clearing up the mess today - not that they'd have cared about the mess.

They'll probably be the ones complaining that places are shut or running short staffed because people like your neighbour daren't go to work because of them. And complaining the council tax goes up and services are cut further to pay for it all.

The irony is that of complaining about using tax payers money to support immigrants, and to drive the point home by......... Wasting more tax payers money on increased police presence, fire service, the NHS, courts, the justice system and the clear up operation.

Never mind prison, they're full anyway, they should have been marched out there today to clean the mess up and any benefits they receive stopped - and yes I realise that's controversial but I absolutely resent tax payers money keeping some of these bloody thugs - and I'm quite liberal in my view about benefits etc but this is where I'd draw the line.

I do wonder how solidarity can be shown, I thought about joining an anti-fascist counter-protest in my home town, however I'm concerned about violence as a mum, I don't want to put myself knowingly in danger. It's not right though and I feel the need to do something. I saw some awful racist language on a local Facebook page and reported each post- and good work, the group moderator removed the posts.

No, the immigrants have taken all the jobs, whilst also claiming millions in benefits from the hard working white man. (End sarcasm).

I have so sad that people feel they can’t love their life in the country in peace due to the actions of some absolute scumbags. I live in a very diverse bit of the world, so far, it’s all quiet, and I hope it lasts.

The only good news today was the troublemakers in Liverpool were all remanded until the end of August / beginning of September apart from the 14 year old who was bailed.

The other good news is that these oh so brave excuses for men cried in court!

I’m normally very pro letting teenagers do things themselves, but I would definitely say you’re not being over protective here, especially if you and he don’t know the area very well.
