Just been talking to my neighbour. He and his family are Nigerian. They haven't been here that long. Both work. They have small dcs.
He's had to take today off work as he works in a town that's been targeted and he's scared to travel.

I'm in tears I'm so angry. Those bastards wouldn't know how to fucking spell work. Luckily I got inside before I broke down. Dh is also teary. They're the loveliest family. I'm genuinely scared for my African neighbours. There's a lot of families moved here from the south because of a housing shortage. All of them that I've met are decent lovely people. Wish I could say the same for a lot of people who are from here.

@Dymaxion it's 'Sunderland Global Media'. You'll need to scroll down about 40 posts but they shared a Northumbria Police video of the particular woman's arrest on Saturday. There are about 500 comments - she owns a (not very good) removals business which lots of the comments are about. There are subsequent posts as she's been in court - and is now on remand - today.

I just read this and It's absolutely shocking that people are experiencing this in modern society. I am appalled that some people's bad behaviour has such a devastating impact and I hope that all the people here from other countries stay safe and well. I have been experiencing difficulties very recently and I think it may be a result of having a culturally diverse family background. I'm a white British woman. I am so proud that I've been raised to respect and care about people regardless of their culture, race, ethnicity, gender etc etc. One love ❤

Sikhs as a group don't cause anyone any grief in this country, we get married on the weekend because that's what this country does, we go to our places of worship on a Sunday because that's what this country does, we don't take time off for our festivals, we don't preach as it's a sin, our ancestors came here for the capitalist society, we don't stay in ghettos long - the immigrant ancestor stays in the ghetto and gets out of the ghetto whilst they are still young enough to enjoy their life - but we still get the 💩

I don't have family here other than my little one if anything were to happen id be on my own there's no one to check in with.

We stayed home.

Its kicking off quite badly here now but we arent getting updates that often. Several roads are now blocked with people and police and the local islamic centre has been targeted. A police van has been damaged and apparently bottles being thrown.

While things like this bring out the worst in some people, they also bring out the best in others and there are far more good people in this country than bad.

Tye only way to get beyond it, is by communities standing together on sn ongoing basis.

All we can do is keep reaching out to anyone affected by this, keep making sure they know it’s not all white citizens of this country that feel that way. That they are welcome no matter what some scuzzy pieces of shit say.

I am in Manchester for a short break, don't know the city at all. My DS 15 Asian wants to walk somewhere alone, I don't know the area. I would have said yes a few weeks ago, now I just don't know at all. Am I over protective? He thinks I am!
