Just been talking to my neighbour. He and his family are Nigerian. They haven't been here that long. Both work. They have small dcs.
He's had to take today off work as he works in a town that's been targeted and he's scared to travel.

I'm in tears I'm so angry. Those bastards wouldn't know how to fucking spell work. Luckily I got inside before I broke down. Dh is also teary. They're the loveliest family. I'm genuinely scared for my African neighbours. There's a lot of families moved here from the south because of a housing shortage. All of them that I've met are decent lovely people. Wish I could say the same for a lot of people who are from here.

We're broken aren't we? What the fuck is to be done?

It's awful,we live in a "white" village and are the only family of colour!! My children no longer have a school to attended due to the racism they have had to deal with in both village schools!

This is awful to hear so sorry, shouldn’t happen in this day and age. I hope your children are ok x

Where I live (Leeds) I've kind of sensed white people being extra nice to black and Asian people over the last few days. It's like they want to reassure them they're not one of those nasty racist thugs. Lots of people of all colours out in Leeds. I hate the thought of people being too scared to go out. It's heartbreaking.

Maybe the silver lining from all of this is that parties like Reform as much as they put on suits for the elections will now be associated with these thuggish, disinformed rioters. Swaying voters will be turned off.

I live on the same road of one of the riots, we have Nigerian neighbours as well. I was terrified for them, the young son (about 15) was out and about and I just wanted to tell him to stay home.

But why should he?

For his own safety unfortunately.
Pp two tone spoke volumes for loads of kids.
I read Pauline blacks book that was interesting as of the time you'd have zieg hailing in the audience and the selecter would walk off and the skinhead spokesman would sheepishly ask ...erm could you come back on

Unfortunately think it could have the opposite effect…

It is disgusting. I'm a subscriber to 38 degrees:
"38 Degrees is a British not-for-profit political-activism organisation. It describes itself as "progressive" and claims to "campaign for fairness, defend rights, promote peace, preserve the planet and deepen democracy in the UK".

I've just signed a petition, 'Not in my name' about this racist rioting. It's a disgrace. I would urge anybody with an interest in this area to have a look at what they do.

I'm so sorry for your neighbours, OP.

Norway are warning their citizens to stay away from crowds and demonstrations in the UK now.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/08/2024 22:06

I worry that a lot of the racist hate-spewing is not in fact real people at all, but (like the lie that three little girls in Southport were murdered by an illegal immigrant fresh off the boat) planted by people of some other nation which has a vested interest in the UK being torn apart.

Orangeoranges42 · 05/08/2024 22:13

Why don’t our police use the spray water that they use in other countries to help identify these idiots.

its shameful

what you and I can do, is help identify any that the police post on social media asking for ID if we know who they are.

I wouldn't worry, I'd be fairly certain. Brexit was only the start, this is all stage two in the project to persuade this country to tear itself apart.

Seen that Mayalsia,Australia,Nigeria and Indonesia have done the same and about just being caution and careful..

How has it come to this..

Actually it's a thought - apply the same rules to these thugs as we do to XL bullys. Muzzle them, neuter them, keep them on lead in public places and have them all registered and licensed to their home address

Well it’s not just the UK though. It just happened to be there this time, the idiots are sadly everywhere I’m afraid.

Thevelvelletes · 05/08/2024 22:27

A lot of the agitators will be the football hooligans of yesteryear and directing the mayhem amongst the younger element.maybe not so much mindless violence but highly organised as they were back in the day.

ClematisWren · 05/08/2024 22:28

I work in Sunderland and have colleagues in GP surgeries in Middlesbrough. Lots of clinical colleagues scared to come to work today 😢. These are hardworking nurses and doctors who look after their patients despite all the challenges and shortages, now feeling unwelcome and frightened in their own towns.

I’m from many generations of white working class in the Northeast, I know the challenges that we face here. We are better than this and I feel ashamed that we are being tarnished by the behaviour of a few thugs who are looking for an excuse to blame the wrong people for their problems.

I've posted this on another thread - I'm a Sikh Indian woman and my white neighbours verbally and physically attacked me.
Sikhs as a group don't cause anyone any grief in this country, we get married on the weekend because that's what this country does, we go to our places of worship on a Sunday because that's what this country does, we don't take time off for our festivals, we don't preach as it's a sin, our ancestors came here for the capitalist society, we don't stay in ghettos long - the immigrant ancestor stays in the ghetto and gets out of the ghetto whilst they are still young enough to enjoy their life - but we still get the 💩

I am so sorry this is your experience. It is shameful.

Only we dont gave much prison space. All the inmates of Dartmoor have had to be dispersed across the system and we were already struggling with the government saying they would release prisoners early. They should stop all benefits for those caught taking part too and remove them from social housing lists if they are on them. Make them pay for their actions .

Personally I would like to see them financially pay. Torch a police car - cost £x thousand - need to pay the bill. I genuinely as a tax payer am not interested in paying the cost of some fake protestor. Protest peacefully yes - please do, but not this level of (mostly male) violence. So how do we ensure vandals pay the real cost of their protest?

The wrong people indeed.

They want us fighting a race war because that stops us fighting a class war.

As Marx inferred, the working class has more in common with workers on the other side of the world than the bourgeousie in its own nation.

@Skodacool the rioter bitten by the police dog crying in court 😂

Yes I saw that, the dog seemed to be biting his bum - priceless!

Good but the overcrowding of this country needs to be addressed without the fear of being called a racist, fascist or a Tommy Robinson or Farage fan. Also sadly I don't think anyone will stand up for older people going through poverty as a result of the fuel allowance situation in the same way. They are just greedy boomers and all have multiple houses etc etc. .The ageism that was fuelled by covid has got worse.Of course it's awful and racism should be fought but with a hearts and minds mindset and white working class people need to be unskilled and supported too. That is not to justify appalling violent behaviour but like in Tottenham in 2011 the rioters are self harming because it's the only power they have.

I don't see people rioting outside of maternity units because of people bringing more children into a country with an overpopulation. You could be a white Brit with 9 children and these racist thugs wouldn't bat and eyelid so yes it is racism. Overcrowding starts at home but that will never be addressed so let's blame immigration eh.

I fear, however, that the Russian shills and bots are not Marxists, and have very little in common with workers here. And it is not the working class in Russia who want this country disrupted.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 05/08/2024 22:53

The cousin of Leanne Lucas – the yoga teacher whose Taylor Swift dance event was attacked one week ago – tells the BBC he thinks the protests and riots that have followed should stop and are "disgusting".
Chris Rimmer tells the BBC: "I’m shocked. I’m shocked that we [the public] actually did that... I don’t understand why it occurred."
"Why riot, it’s not going to help," he says, adding he’d tell rioters to "just stop it. It’s pathetic… Just go home."

Know way beyond what happened last week but still...the 2011 riot and the father who gave a speech after his son and 2 others were killed had a impact but don't think anyone will this time..it just seems to be causing as much damage, violence and carnage as possible

Thevelvelletes · 05/08/2024 22:55

Politicians started with the immigrants are to blame for everything then moved onto the disabled are draining our welfare state.always a scapegoat to be found and the ill informed , marginalised, gullible fall for it .
Single mothers in the 80s that were at fault for the UK problems.. anyone else remember that little gem.
