Let’s discuss an extremely boring topic, just regular and recycle.

Regular Bin: Green
Recycling Bin: Brown

When we visited Cornwall I was happy to see yellow bins. YELLOW! Bright, cheery containers of trash that made me smile. Everyone needs a yellow bin especially on a grey winter's day.
My own are:
Black (proper black, not trans black) for general waste
Green for garden and food waste plus a green kitchen caddy
Blue for paper and card
Brown for plastic and glass bottles, glass, tins, foil. But not yogurt pots or any kind of plastic trays.

IliveInCambridge · 05/08/2024 00:57

Recyclable - blue
Compostable - green
The rest - black

I could only get it down to two bins if I put the compostable stuff in the black bin.

@OrkneyGirl This is my special identifiable-location name.

I think some councils are better at separating recyclables than others. When DD lived in Newcastle she had one bin for all recyclables and one for landfill. No garden waste as she didn't have a garden.

We have 4 bins, but no food waste, not that we make much.

Iwantacampervan · 05/08/2024 09:00

Black - general rubbish
Burgundy - recycling including glass
Green (paid for) - garden waste
The nursery has a lockable yellow wheely bin for nappies which is emptied regularly by a hygiene waste company.

BashfulClam · 05/08/2024 09:03

Grey-general waste
Brown-garden/food
Blue-paper card
Green-glass/plastic
one of my mums bins is purple!, she’s a different council area.

cocodaisy · 05/08/2024 09:06

Regular recycling :Black
General Waste: Green

Franticbutterfly · 05/08/2024 09:08

Big blue for recycling, black for general. Easy peasy.

Qwertylife · 05/08/2024 09:11

Kinneddar · 04/08/2024 23:29

Rude!!

List what 2? Clearly most of us have one general waste & several recycling ones.

Clearly none of us realised we were only 'allowed' to list 2 or the thread police would be alerted

This

Qwertylife · 05/08/2024 09:12

Why do you ask anyway?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/08/2024 09:13

Big black one - landfill, anything that doesn’t go in the others,
Big blue one - paper and card
Green boxes - metal, plastic and glass
Small brown bin - food waste

All collected every 2 weeks, except for food waste, weekly.

leeverarch · 05/08/2024 09:16

We have four:

Black - regular rubbish
Black with a green lid - recycling
Green - garden waste
Brown caddy - food waste

The food waste is emptied weekly, and the others are fortnightly. Ordinary waste one week and recycling/garden the next.

spanieleyes · 05/08/2024 09:17

We don't have bins, of any colour- unless you pay extra for a garden waste bin which is brown.
Black bags for general rubbish, green bags for any type of recycled material. Weekly collections.

fussychica · 05/08/2024 09:23

Grey general waste
Grey with blue lid recycling plus black box for glass
Green Garden waste at an additional cost of £70 per year despite having some of the highest council tax rates in England.
All collected fortnightly

ScottBakula · 05/08/2024 09:29

Plutofablestwo · 04/08/2024 21:59

Black (but the council call them grey) for general waste.
Blue paper.
Green garden waste.
Brown glass, metal and plastic.

Snap , I wonder if we live in the same area .

They get emptied ;
Blue , black and green one week , then brown the following week .
In the winter the green only gets emptied once a month

@costacoffeee , you seem to think everyone only has one recycling bin bin , what can you put in yours ?

Positivenancy · 05/08/2024 09:30
