Do we think the riots will end soon?

I’m sure everyone knows about the riots going on right now. I’m disgusted and I really can’t see an end to the violence. I was just wondering when people think these riots will come to an end or if this is just the beginning of what is to come?

I know many people over the years have said they think a civil war is coming and I’ve never believed it but I do think with the level of divide in the UK currently the level of violence etc will Increase

Ps my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those beautiful girls who were murdered and whose deaths have been used for a political agenda

Like with all riots they will stop when it starts raining and gets cold.

Polarnight · 04/08/2024 21:22

You can't see an end to it? Weird thing to say.

EmmaOvary · 04/08/2024 21:24

First bit of rain and they’ll be off, I suspect. But, I do think the way this is handled will be a bit of a litmus test. If it’s widely seen as this sort of rioting not being cracked down on, it will embolden them for next time.

soundsys · 04/08/2024 21:24

Rain forecast for later in the week so Thursday to Saturday is my guess

Good thunderstorm would be good to send them all indoors

IDontHateRainbows · 04/08/2024 21:30

I remember them being very fierce with sentencing rioters/ looters in 2012, kids with no previous getting lengthy jail terms etc.

Agree they will throw the book at them to put off future rioters

Echobelly · 04/08/2024 21:30

Combo of rain and more of them getting arrested because the idiots are posting themselves or being posted online will quell it. But I fear Farage and his ilk will be doing their best to encourage these morons so they can claim only they can 'unite' the country or some bullshit.

Pinkdressandahighpony · 04/08/2024 21:33

I hope so because my husband hasn’t been home since he left for his shift early yesterday morning then got sent half way across the country, had his day off cancelled and missed his sister’s birthday today.

Frowningprovidence · 04/08/2024 21:33

I think the riots will end when the weather breaks, but I do think thd issues will run on and on.

I dont quite get what a civil war would be about.

Flapjacker48 · 04/08/2024 21:34

Please dont parrot the bullshit Elon Musk "civil war" line.

GreenSedan · 04/08/2024 21:37

Yes. I think they will. Once the arrests start in earnest, people will stop looting and fighting. Absolutely horrible for those who live in the vicinity now though.

How so? Every day it seems like it’s all getting worse

Definitely wrong choice of words on my part I just mean I’m seeing a greater divide of people e.g the rioters vs the anti racism groups and from what I’ve seen so far with all this violence I’m stuggling to see any how anything can be settled.

I agree the above that the Government will move fast give the first convictions for attempting to kill police officers 15 years or similar and then others will be deterred. Hopefully those that set fire to a hotel full of people will get life.

MinPinSins · 04/08/2024 22:05

Absolutely - these things always end with a bit of rain and colder whether - hot weather is one of the big instigators of unrest.

Also, I think it's important to bear in mind that the proportion of people engaging in these is tiny. Whilst they are widespread, each protest is a few hundred max, most under a hundred. When you add up all the riots, it's still not that many people. They have no where near enough people on board for anything close to a civil war.

Heathbear · 04/08/2024 22:09

The football will start soon. That’ll distract the fuckwits. They can try to thump the opposing fans instead.

Ovenon · 04/08/2024 22:10

It's not going to rain or get cold enough to stop this fgs. It's August not November

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 04/08/2024 22:11

Once the weather changes and the football starts.

It won’t need to rain that hard or be that cold.

FayeGreener · 04/08/2024 22:16

It doesn’t really mean anything if the riots end. The simmering resentments that caused them will still be there, and eventually there will be more - and worse - riots.

Yes exactly. My husband always hopes for rain when working Notting Hill carnival as that makes some difference in the amount of violence and arrests and that’s in August.

The riots will definitely end when the civil war starts properly.

I agree. Feels like something very malevolent has been unleashed in our society. Not impressed with Keir Starmer 's response. Unless this Gvt finds a way to bring peace to these communities, I genuinely fear it's going to get worse.

TyotyaKlava · 04/08/2024 22:39

I’m absolutely disgusted by riots. I also happened to be in London the previous Saturday when Tommy Robinson rally or whatever it was happened. I just think it’s not the right way to think in 21st century. Otherwise what makes it different from Hitler’s ideology???
obviously it’s sad about the death of children but it was only one demented person who did that not the whole immigrants community! As an immigrant myself, I feel a little bit uneasy and not quite sure that I want to live here anymore. However even when shared my thoughts with my husband (white Englishman) he said he can see the point of the rioters! Like wtf? Do I need a divorce lawyer now?

stronglatte · 04/08/2024 22:40

And Tommy ten names seeks refuge in a foreign hotel .. oh the irony ..
