Do we think the riots will end soon?

I’m sure everyone knows about the riots going on right now. I’m disgusted and I really can’t see an end to the violence. I was just wondering when people think these riots will come to an end or if this is just the beginning of what is to come?

I know many people over the years have said they think a civil war is coming and I’ve never believed it but I do think with the level of divide in the UK currently the level of violence etc will Increase

Ps my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those beautiful girls who were murdered and whose deaths have been used for a political agenda

Had a song line stuck in my head since around election time. ‘The history book on the shelf is always repeating itself’. Unfortunately it seems to be ringing true and we’re seeing Nazi type hatred in full force again. Sad to think racism etc never really went away people just got better at hiding it until it’s become more widespread again

^I must say I jeered and didn't think sunaks natinal service was a good idea..

I've swiftly changed my mind.^

Really? You want these right-wing creeps to get army training?

Check your history. Nazis starting WW2.

Quote by Martin Niemöller: “In Germany they came first for the Communists, ...” (goodreads.com)

Sadly I think many have forgotten this poem.

The last line..
then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me

Please please if you are wandering around and see a person of colour being harassed, stuck, whatever, just go up to them and give them that life line “ hey bob how are you? Haven’t seen you in ages lets get a coffee”. This is the time that the silent majority needs to be vocal against this mobilisation of people wanting to destabilise the country.

They claim they want economic prosperity well, this is doing far greater damage and it needs to stop.

There’s ways of protesting without causing riots. Absolute twats who think they are trying to prove something they have no idea about.. just ruining thier towns for no reason. Funny thing is, most of them will be having either a Chinese, kebab or Indian takeaway this weekend….and they are supposed
y fighting to get thier country’s back 🤦‍♀️

Bet they were all cheering and happy enough about immigration when Bellingham and Watkins etc were scoring at the Euros not too long ago.

Unfortunately there are a lot of twats in this country so I can’t see them ending any time soon. Compounded by the fact our prisons are at breaking point so we can’t throw the book at them, there literally isn’t the space to give them all custodial sentences.

Sends the lot of them to Rwanda, it's a safe country after all!

Yes but if they’d missed like Saka etc did (not a football fan Wink) at the last international tournament they’d have posted racist memes and videos. They are thick as mince.

In 2011 when we had the Tottenham riots it lasted a week.

In 2011 when we had the Tottenham riots it lasted a week.

That was 14-odd years ago....

And only in Tottenham, all over the place now.... Much more frightening now.

Tottenham riots were about police brutality.

This is about right wing extremism. Very frightening.

suburberphobe · 05/08/2024 00:38

I'm with the Nans against Nazis! old enough

Mummapenguin20 · 05/08/2024 00:39

Hopfully this stops when the rain starts and the rain starts soon x

It was literally all over the country! I don’t agree with any riots regardless of the point. I remember the same fear living near a major city with a baby. I don’t have that this time as we’re not on the list. I still look at these rioters the same way.

Riots don’t fix anything, regardless of when it was or why it was.

StripedPiggy · 05/08/2024 00:42

One of my old lecturers postulated that the main causes of civil unrest throughout history were ‘high unemployment and too much sun’. I tend to agree. The rioting will end when the weather gets back to normal. It’s all too much like hard work when it’s 9C & pissing it down.

PoopedAndScooped · 05/08/2024 00:43

It will be very quiet from tomorrow

Now the Ethno nationalists who are nazi scum are involved, it will all die down now.

The organised resistance,
The farage and Tommy Robinson supporters, as well as the football thugs will be done with this now that the Nazi’s are involved.
Lots and lots of ‘events’ now cancelled

RosyappleA · 05/08/2024 01:12

Well I hope this government realises they need to fund public services because the last thought it was okay to keep cutting funding to police, the nhs etc. I also hope they realise they need to be careful with what the mainstream media spread in attempt to cover up their weaknesses and shift the blame to ‘the boats’.

radiator2 · 05/08/2024 01:20

Just seen a video of ‘protesters’ checking if people in cars were white before allowing them to pass. I’ve also seen a video of a poc being dragged out a car by these evil thugs as people yelled things like ‘kill him’ I feel sick to my stomach. This is deep rooted hatred and racism that is being passed from one generation to the next even when the riots end I doubt this hatred will. Never felt so scared or ashamed of this country

I’m absolutely disgusted by riots. I also happened to be in London the previous Saturday when Tommy Robinson rally or whatever it was happened. I just think it’s not the right way to think in 21st century. Otherwise what makes it different from Hitler’s ideology???
obviously it’s sad about the death of children but it was only one demented person who did that not the whole immigrants community! As an immigrant myself, I feel a little bit uneasy and not quite sure that I want to live here anymore. However even when shared my thoughts with my husband (white Englishman) he said he can see the point of the rioters! Like wtf? Do I need a divorce lawyer now?

He was not an immigrant.
He was British born in Cardiff.
Also not relevant but to note he was not Muslim.

This was the tories doing.

It doesn’t really mean anything if the riots end. The simmering resentments that caused them will still be there, and eventually there will be more - and worse - riots.

It does feel like a tinder box and commentary on why has been slow

sandgrown · 05/08/2024 06:57

It won’t stop until the hard of thinking in this country find another cause to protest about .I am a great believer in free speech and peaceful protest but not this mindless violence . Anyone who recognises their employees should sack them for bringing the company into disrepute. Benefits should be stopped for anyone who should be actively seeking work. I hope we don’t have to use armed police but I do believe we should use things like water cannon. I feel so sorry for 2nd and 3rd generation immigrant families who are British have lived their whole lives here and are now being drawn into this situation.

Pinkdressandahighpony · 04/08/2024 22:20

Yes exactly. My husband always hopes for rain when working Notting Hill carnival as that makes some difference in the amount of violence and arrests and that’s in August.

I read an old American magazine from 1970's and an article said hot, humid weather always incited rioting and looting {Probably Rolling Stone magazine}

I was surprised, but it definitely does seem to be so.

I was appalled to see the police so outnumbered yesterday, {Rotherham} backs to the wall, and the Malinois dogs were muzzled!
The mounted section looked to be trying to keep their horses away from the worst of it.

I hope no one was seriously injured.

Check yourself. You're comparing the Notting Hill carnival which is a long standing social and cultural event with utterly despicable, deliberately destructive, violent, unlawful rioting by lawless, racist numbskulls.🙄

This is sickening and so worrying OP. I agree this is deep rooted and rotten racism pure and simple. It never went away. The police and government are not doing enough. These people are not savages let out of the cage for the day, they are neighbours, colleagues, friends and relatives. Everyone should be worried about what this shows about life in the UK.

Oldncranky · 05/08/2024 10:49

I agree it was very worrying to see the police so outnumbered. There has been criticism on why crowd dispersal methods weren't deployed sooner (I'm imaging things like water canons and tear gas I guess - was my thought too!). I expect there will be a more coordinated approach to any further rioting after the Cobra meeting this morning.
