Do we think the riots will end soon?

I’m sure everyone knows about the riots going on right now. I’m disgusted and I really can’t see an end to the violence. I was just wondering when people think these riots will come to an end or if this is just the beginning of what is to come?

I know many people over the years have said they think a civil war is coming and I’ve never believed it but I do think with the level of divide in the UK currently the level of violence etc will Increase

Ps my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those beautiful girls who were murdered and whose deaths have been used for a political agenda

I’m absolutely disgusted by riots. I also happened to be in London the previous Saturday when Tommy Robinson rally or whatever it was happened. I just think it’s not the right way to think in 21st century. Otherwise what makes it different from Hitler’s ideology???
obviously it’s sad about the death of children but it was only one demented person who did that not the whole immigrants community! As an immigrant myself, I feel a little bit uneasy and not quite sure that I want to live here anymore. However even when shared my thoughts with my husband (white Englishman) he said he can see the point of the rioters! Like wtf? Do I need a divorce lawyer now?

Yes, you likely do.

I agree. Feels like something very malevolent has been unleashed in our society. Not impressed with Keir Starmer 's response. Unless this Gvt finds a way to bring peace to these communities, I genuinely fear it's going to get worse.

Simplest solution is to lock them up. That will focus the minds of those around them.

Runnerinthenight · 04/08/2024 22:44

There's been riots for many reasons over the years. It will fizzle out in the end.

Blinky21 · 04/08/2024 22:45

They usually run out of steam after a week or so, hopefully many of them will be locked up

stronglatte · 04/08/2024 22:45

@TyotyaKlava that would have shocked me too- wow

BeEasyonYourself · 04/08/2024 22:46

I wouldn't say we were rioting in Bristol. More counterprotesting against fascists.

flyinghen · 04/08/2024 22:49

Similar happened in 2011 was it, can't remember, but I don't remember it happening for very long.

Businessflake · 04/08/2024 22:50

Unfortunately there are a lot of twats in this country so I can’t see them ending any time soon. Compounded by the fact our prisons are at breaking point so we can’t throw the book at them, there literally isn’t the space to give them all custodial sentences.

Definitely agree with you two, I can’t see any sort of long term solution just delays until the next thing happens. Shocked with Kier Starmer’s response and the fact he might be going on holiday while there’s carnage on the streets

We desperately need more prisons. It should not be the case that we cannot send criminals to prison because there is no room. Or that we have to let criminals out so there is room for new criminals to go in.

Like with all riots they will stop when it starts raining and gets cold.

This is what I’m hoping.

It’s horrible to see what’s going on. Setting fire to a hotel with people in it!

Inlaw · 04/08/2024 22:56

I said that to DP!

He reminded me it was the weekend.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 04/08/2024 22:58

I must say I jeered and didn't think sunaks natinal service was a good idea..

I've swiftly changed my mind.

suburberphobe · 04/08/2024 22:58

True.

But rain and cold will not stop this in its tracks. There's something deeply worrying going on in England.

A perfect storm of age-old racism - borne from colonialism - extreme class divisions, political incompetence, Brexshit sunny uplands crap COL, (world-wide), world-wide political instability.... --war in the ME brewing. American voting coming up. (Trump fascism a real possibility, etc.)

Terrifying really.

It was ever thus, looking at history.

EsmaCannonball · 04/08/2024 22:59

These riots may end in a few days but it is obvious that the UK is becoming more and more sectarian. Just look at some of the events at the last election. It's not all about EDL types vs. Muslims, either. Leicester, just for one example, has issues between Muslims and Hindus which also impacted upon the election. There's definitely a feeling of social fragmentation.

Aproductofmyera80s · 04/08/2024 22:59

There’s ways of protesting without causing riots. Absolute twats who think they are trying to prove something they have no idea about.. just ruining thier towns for no reason. Funny thing is, most of them will be having either a Chinese, kebab or Indian takeaway this weekend….and they are supposed
y fighting to get thier country’s back 🤦‍♀️

Most of them are middle aged. They wouldn’t have had to do it.

I hope so because my husband hasn’t been home since he left for his shift early yesterday morning then got sent half way across the country, had his day off cancelled and missed his sister’s birthday today.

Edited

🙁

EsmaCannonball · 04/08/2024 23:02

I know the usage of water cannons is very proscribed but, with all this talk of rain deterring the rioters, I can't help wishing they would use regular hoses on them.

Well they’ve burnt down a library, a citizens advice bureau, kicked in people’s doors, stopped people from passing based on skin colour, pulled people from cars for being the wrong colour; all of that looks and sounds like nazis. They need to be called out for what they are. They need their kids sent to prevent for being radicalised and the government needs to come down hard on the far right.

Same in Lancaster.

Proud to be part of it.

Absolutely.

Children learn what they live.

The football will start soon. That’ll distract the fuckwits. They can try to thump the opposing fans instead.

This !All bored trying to have an excuse not to be involved in family life becausethey are so funking thick and never have fertility problems Feel sorry for the children involved!!!

Oldncranky · 04/08/2024 23:10

I'm wondering why they're not using tear gas? Isn't that what they normally do to disperse crowds? Surely that's better than wasting water!

I never thought I'd ever hear myself saying something like this but I'm fast thinking these people should not be allowed to vote!
