Why is it a particular type of, usually men, who are normally the instigators of civil unrest?

It can’t be that they’re all just disillusioned or angry or even just thick. It largely seems to be working class men (and yes some women). When I passed the Tommy Robinson March last week when I was in London, it was a very similar demographic although I must admit it looked mainly quite calm.

I feel angry for the families of those poor girls, it’s beyond dreadful what happened to them but the rioters must know that they’re not helping them at all (or themselves).

So is it just racism? I saw some of the videos on X last night of black men and Muslims being singled out and attacked and can’t really think it’s down to anything else. The footage was shocking.

@FolkestoneMassive add to that genuine sen, reading issues and so on that our education system can't handle.

As an aside many of the men seem to be the same stature

To corrupt Hobbes: Solitary, poor, nasty, brutish amd short in stature.

The Southport killings do not appear to have had anything to do with race. Why are you so keen to make them about that?

The purported murderer was black.

That doesn't make it about race though does it?

But we had the NF in the 70’s/80’s.

There was much less immigration then.

It’s always been a white male thing.

This, white males being angry about stuff !

I agree with you it's mainly working class males in their 30's.

Wanted to add a fun fact -

Did you know that "Tommy Robinson" isn't his name? It's a stage name! Get that! Even civil disrupters have stage names, who'd have thought.

That's common knowledge about Tommy Robinson

I think you’ll find it is.

A massive increase in immigration is pretty good if you’re middle-class. Plenty of cheap labour for you to take advantage of, and your nice semi is miles and miles away from any problems a huge influx of mainly young single men is going to cause.

It’s a bit different if you’re poor and working class, live in expensive shitty accommodation with mould on the walls in a blighted town centre and when you complain to the police about being menaced by one of the roving gangs of North African or Albanian men they come and caution you for your racist attitude.

👏👏👏

lovelysunshine22 · 04/08/2024 11:15

This sort of sneering attitude is what people are sick of op! Yes their are thugs taking advantage of this situation to further their racist beliefs but the vast majority are not racist not thugs they are simply sick of their views being ignored and dismissed! The Tommy robinson march was absolutely not mainly working class men in their 30's, there were lots of older women and men, plus families! Keep on dismissing them as racists and this will get worse until people like yourselves and the government are forced to listen.

If they aren't racist why are they attacking mosques and shouting racist slogans? And are we to feel sorry for people who chose to burn down a library and a foodbank? These actions aren't really 'forcing' me to listen to their considered and informed opinion.

MangeMonCochonnet · 04/08/2024 14:29

Motivation coupled with low intelligence always has and always will be a dangerous mix

Agreed.

Yet it happens in every culture as we have regular proof.

Assuming some of that is accurate, what's the answer?

We can't stop immigration for any reason, least of all to pacify rioters. So what do we do?

floppybit · 04/08/2024 14:37

Wow, some really shitty things being said about working class men on here, but I'm not surprised. A 'middle class man who's been down Waitrose' probably lives in an area where mass immigration has had less of an effect on his life, so he has no reason to be upset about it

ScaryPrairie · 04/08/2024 15:01

There’s no doubts about the low intelligence of the vast majority of these men. We know a lot about brain physiology and neuroscience now that imaging techniques and longitudinal data are available.

Nicotine abuse, alcohol abuse and stress during pregnancy are very accurate predictors of low intelligence and FAS physiology is actually visible in many of these men.

Men of low intelligence and a lack of interest in education used to be known as cannon fodder. Now they’re fodder for exploitation from alcohol and gambling brands and dickhead politicians who would never make it in the real world.

Northernnature · 04/08/2024 15:06

Multi cultural societies (not multi racial which can work) are very rare in history and rarely successful (see the Balkans). Never going to work with the number of low skilled people arriving and the fact that GDP per capita is decreasing so not even financially beneficial. Added to that is the perception that ethnic minorities are policed more laxly (eg Batley teacher driven into hiding and no one charged but countless other examples) and here we are. Its as if the people in charge are trying to create division and disharmony when uk was perfectly harmonious in the 90s.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 04/08/2024 15:06

Leniriefenstahl · 04/08/2024 11:16

@sunsetsandboardwalks You need to live in areas where it’s rife. I live in a northern town that’s on its arse. Austerity, lack of investment, half the town full of boarded up shops, hundreds of applicants for essentially NMW jobs. Desperation, anger, frustration, jealousy. The signs of poverty are pretty obvious tbh.

I live somewhere similar - but I suspect the vast majority of MN has no experience of places like that.

The onus is on the government to mitigate the effects. They allowed mass immigration because they needed working taxpayers, what they didn't do was provide the funding and infrastructure to cope with that influx, instead that fell onto already deprived and poorer areas. They are the ones who have experienced a negative effect on their lives.
Those with money wealth or power just benefited from mass immigration, whether that be more tax paid into the coffers, cheap builders, cheap workers, or importing already trained and skilled workers so they no longer had to pay to train homegrown staff.
It's why successive governments pay lip service to tackling immigration and aren't truthful about why they have allowed it. It's more convenient to have people at each other's throats than to turn around and point the finger at them for their failed policies.

coworkingdesk · 04/08/2024 15:29

For Anyone disputing the racism element I see they’ve just set fire to a holiday inn in Rotherham known to house asylum seekers.

these people really are the scum of the earth.

fussychica · 04/08/2024 15:32

Blokes who like to fight, no football so let's riot. Thieves who use rioting as a cover/excuse to loot shops. Many of them won't even know what they are rioting about, they'll just hear about the violence heading their way on social media and join in.
If my son or husband was involved in this I'd be ashamed and shop them to the police but these men are probably actively encouraged by their partner, some of whom are in the press footage. I even saw one where they'd bought their kids along. Vile individuals.

ScaryPrairie · 04/08/2024 15:37

Someone above said the hot weather was a factor.

It is - it accelerates alcohol and drug consumption, and crowds. They’re pissed up and pumped up; they’re not peaceful protesters with informed and articulate arguments.

Something particularly heartbreaking and very telling about a library being torched - the very place that could have helped them make something good of their lives.

Why do the police not have the power to stop the thugs before setting fire to a hotel? Also why are Nazi salutes not criminal?

The lack of officers is more than likely.

Liverpoolma123 · 04/08/2024 16:00

"The protest has already been strongly criticise by anti-racism groups as well as campaigner Brendan Cox, whose MP wife Jo Cox was killed in her West Yorkshire constituency in 2016.
He said: 'The scenes in Rotherham aren't a protest, they aren't even a far right riot, they are an ongoing attempt to murder the men, women and children inside by burning them alive. "

Mrsjayy · 04/08/2024 16:04

On our police FB someone was arrested for stabbing a young woman. There was comments that I would say that we're trying to rile people up, going on about "our women" were unsafe "they" need to be stopped etc etc and the police did say it was a white male who had been arrested but still 3 or 4 men were harping on about them and us.
