ive seen loads of people online shouting about the harehills disorder and how no ones been arrested for that when they HAVE made arrests. dozens of them. the dont seem to get that there will be police working behind the scenes for ALL the riots/disorders, whoever is causing them, to bring the people causing disorder to justice.

Yes well the system isn’t like Batman; you don’t get a special signal every time someone gets arrested. It takes months though I guess social media as evidence can maybe speed it up.

The Harehills thing is being cynically used to rationalise the current racist thuggery. Don't give it oxygen. Anyone with half a brain could use verifiable information to see the facts. So I assume people repeatedly bringing it up are limiting themselves to only questionable websites and are best ignored when trying to derail.

Yaxley-Lennon has been also been driving that narrative about Harehills on Twitter. From his sunbed in Spain, no doubt.

Rainbowsponge · 04/08/2024 12:10

27 arrests from Harehills. I just think the police should’ve showed up the moment they knew a violent disorder was taking place rather than hesitate over ‘sensitivities’. Which we know they do (they do with regards to GC feminism all the time)

So no two tier policing, then.

There has been no further trouble in Harehills, has there?

Saucery · 04/08/2024 12:29

They also tailor their approach towards the EDL when they consider it appropriate. It's not an exact science. 'Sensitivities' is a kind of wafty non-term. Bit......hinty....

Efacsen · 04/08/2024 12:45

Harehills was different in a number of ways

-3 Roma children were taken into care by Leeds LA with police assistance - angering the parents/family/family friends
-An entirely false rumour went round that a child had died during the removal which recruited more of the local community - creating more rage against the police and subsequent disorder
-The police who were the focus of the discontent and were hugely outnumbered then made a swift tactical withdrawal which is now described by some parties as running away/soft/two tier policing and even tho' it did actually decrease the rioting

So nothing to do with Muslim/boat person murders
it all erupted in a very short space of time - not several hours/days later
Locals were the people involved not people travelling in from afar

bombastix · 04/08/2024 12:48

It’s just sad. Burning a library, burning an advice centre, burning a police station. Destroying things that are there to help people or support them.

Anecadata - there was a huge surge of really racist posts and messages on our community and local websites. But it either seems now that these posts are gone, or the relevant posters banned. I was quite heartened to see how many people told the racists to get stuffed beforehand though.

Zonder · 04/08/2024 12:53

This tweet highlights just how tragic the library arson was.

I'm fucking annoyed. Got a spell on the naughty step a while back for calling people far right, now those exact same posters are suggesting TR is a good person to follow on twatter.

It shows where the moderation has worked against challenging misinformation imo

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 13:19

I feel sick - planned ‘protest’ tomorrow evening in my town - outside a hotel housing asylum seekers 😟

Have the police been notified? They need to contact the hotel

Why would there be? The neglected children were returned to the community.

What? Massive FO to that.

Yeah they will be aware it’s on FB

I forget whether I have asked you this before, are you an expert in crowd policing and the theories of rioting?

What little reading I have done on the subject suggests that West Yorkshire police took the best possible steps to de-escalate the situation.

When the issue that sparked a riot is dealt with, it doesn't always stop the rioting.

As we are seeing. The killer has been arrested and charged but the goons still riot to "save our kids".

Name change fail, sorry! Not sock puppeting!

Thanks for the new thread.

My cat tax. Lovely fluffy stray that adopted us when we were on holiday.

There is no excuse for police to delay turning up to a violent disorder. They are a risk to the wider public.

Rainbowsponge · 04/08/2024 13:50

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 13:32

Yeah they will be aware it’s on FB

Just make sure they know, maybe tag them - targeting a specific hotel is a recipe for something much worse than we have seen over the last few days and there are probably children inside.

At the risk of repeating myself, are you an expert on policing crowds and theories of rioting?

As was evident at the poll tax protests on Whitehall the actions of the police turned what was up until that point peaceful, into a riot.

How do you know that?

Where do you derive your expertise in these matters?

Leeds police will have vastly more experience and knowledge than a random MNer

I can attest to that! I was there. It was a really good natured day, people of all ages and all walks of life.
