Btw I’m not a big Patel fan. But in a multi racial society where she has risen to the top of politics, she has the insight to realise that white English nationalists will terrify and destroy all of that given the chance. There needs to be a mutual line where the law is system we have, not street justice.

Nah Priti, stop making me agree with you

She's what you get when you can't be arsed yourself.

Writ large it's what happens when you allow people to float around saying "I don't know anything about politics".

A few years ago there was a Womans Hour that celebrated the life of a just-passed resistance fighter from WW2 in Italy. She was amazing. And her mantra was that if you ignore politics, then Mussolini is what you get. It's too damn important to ignore. "Politics - is life !" she declared. And I didn't need the interperter to pick that out.

Just idly contemplating, really, but what does it say about the UK that it can take months - maybe years - to get to see a medical specialist while you can be seen by a court in under 24 hours ?

Maybe whoever runs the courts should run the NHS ?

I think this is quite unusual. The court backlog is years long.

I think this is more equivalent of going to ED than waiting to see a specialist. An emergency situation because hopefully the finding out of some people will discourage the fucking around of others.

' No ifs no buts' should be plastered all over the place and encouraged to trend.

And we do need a proper discussion about immigration with facts and figures and modelling.

Who comes here? What is their effect on the economy, international relations, and laws local communities?

What would happen if we had no or little immigration?

What are our obligations under international law?

How do our numbers of immigrants compare internationally?

How many people migrate FROM Britain? Who are they?

What is the estimated population here and globally in the next 5, 10, 20, 50 years? What is the predicted demographic change? What effect will this have on climate change?

People who worry that their way of life will dwindle or disappear: why do you feel this? What would you like to have preserved and why?

Are we too densely populated to support an increase in population in Britain? Without immigration would we still be too densely populated? Is the Uk population equal distributed?

It's far more complex than being pro or anti immigration. Very few things are completely bad or good. Eg, what is the effect on the countries that lose their doctors and nurses to the Uk? Does UK lose skilled workers to other countries?

Once the current violence, intimidation and rioting have been quelled we need proper discussion between all sections of society - 'ordinary' people who are angry or fearful, economists, environmental scientists, town planners, historians, refugees, immigrants. Why doesn't this happen?

Thank you @prettybird for your explanation of the 'two-tier policing' claim, made again by NF. Long time posters and readers of this thread might remember that although you and I have some major political differences we discuss and debate civilly and I certainly recognise many values that we share.

Because anyone who suggests it will be called a racist. You will too, in a moment.

That's one word more than these thick cunts can hold in their minibrains.

Best message is a set of canine teethmarks in the arse.

The "we wil quell the riots" bit made me laugh, bitterly. a) he stoked them and b) he will not be involved in quelling them.

I hope every decent MP in Parliament blanks him for the next four or five years.

Edited

I don't think it's conincidence he won't show his face in the HoP.

Too scared to be challenged Face to face. Hides behind a screen.

His speech is only protected in parliament though. Bearing in mind he's only been an MP for a few days, he needs to remember this. It would be a shame if he somehow mistakenly thought he can say whatever he wants wherever he wants and got locked up for it.

@SerendipityJane it was Starmer as DPP in 2011 who introduced the system of having duty solicitors and courts working through the night to ensure the rioters were processed and remanded immediately so they weren't bailed to go out and repeat while waiting for their court case. It is an emergency measure and probably why the Manchester Airport situation was dealt with differently. They were arrested and bailed with tags as it wasn't believed they would go straight out and repeat offend.

RobinStrike · 05/08/2024 11:26

@Evenstar if only this happened to more people! They really don't see the victims of all this looting and burning as individuals just like them.

Evenstar · 05/08/2024 11:26

@RobinStrike for sure

I repeat my observation. (But thanks for explaining it.)

What does it say about a country where it can take months to see a doctor, but hours to be processed by the courts ?

What does it say ?

What does it say about the political will to deploy resources, and where ?

Throw a brick at someone - locked up in 24 hours.
Be hit by a brick someone has thrown - wait over 48 hours to be seen, if you are lucky.

They need special patriot window stickers on their houses. Then they’d know whose windows to break.

SerendipityJane · 05/08/2024 11:35

A suggestion on Facebook (possibly unintentionally sensible) that police should simply search the tattoo parlours of towns for regulars ...

Apolloneuro · 05/08/2024 11:39

Recognising that all countries need to have awareness about the needs and interests of all members of its society and balance that with how we operate globally and fulfill our moral responsibilities as members of the human race isn’t racist.

The Labour Party has made it very clear that they intend to process claims for entry into this country effectively and efficiently and anybody who is not eligible to remain here will be removed. The PM has made it very clear that he intends to address the criminals that run the boat crossings.

‘We want our country back’ and ‘Send them home’ and violent attacks and deciding the value of a person based on their colour or religion IS racist.

SerendipityJane · 05/08/2024 11:42

Time will tell.

It was obvious from the total and utter failure over 14 years to address this that the smugglers were paying off politicians in power. There is no other explanation for all the talk talk with no walk walk.

Yes. Time will tell. I wouldn’t want Keir Starmer’s job. I think he’s going to give it his best shot and I think he’s sincere in his intentions. I wasn’t sure about him six months ago, but I’m liking what I’m seeing.

Something that I take heart in is that I’m confident that we now have a Government made up of honest, decent people who have integrity. That might make a difference.
