PandoraSox · 05/08/2024 08:56

Some good people are popping up on the Farage thread.

Cuntface has spoken:

A recall of Parliament? Is he actually planning on going there and doing his job then?

Has he been to Clacton recently?

What a weekend. Awful, awful sights. I've spent far too long looking at it and now I just feel.. horrified.. that things have got to this. People who I thought were good people, friends even, spouting the most awful, racist things.

We're going to see a Tudor house today, i plan to sit in a knot garden and read my book and just try to switch off from it all for a bit.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/08/2024 09:24

I had a feeling this would be useful when someone flagged it on Twitter yesterday. Starmer’s response to the BLM protests in case anyone needs it.

Cometh the hour, cometh…. Priti Patel?

She is on the money. My god. Is she our ticket out of this episode by making people see that to be right wing isn’t to give tacit support to Reform?

Notonthestairs · 05/08/2024 10:04

Well, Patel has certainly recognised that the rule of law appeals to Conservative voters.

Something Jenrick overlooked. Anyone else read that Jenrick said he'd vote for Trump - free pass for rape & sexual assault then.

She is the only candidate so far to appeal to the broader Tory base

Morning! What a weird alternate universe we’ve arrived in when Ms Patel appears the reasonable, moderate one!😂

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2024 10:12

Dan Hodges is talking a lot of sense as well Shock

She knows very well it seems that alternative is the “white English driver” test that has been applied in Middlesbrough.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/08/2024 10:13

Did think I might be hallucinating when I read Patel’s response to Farage’s statement.

Not sure I like this awakening of the Tory party to reality. If they start being this sensible and aware they might get back in again.

bombastix · 05/08/2024 10:18

It’s good if they do. We need to bring back discussion into the mainstream. That means a Conservative Party that does not stoke racial tensions and believes in the rule of law.

NoDishiForRishi · 05/08/2024 10:20

What's she said?

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/08/2024 10:20

I guess Hodges & Patel coming out of this well might show reform’s problem. Lots of people might have a negative view about immigration or be racist but there is a line that they won’t cross. And you can’t appeal to them and the people that burn down libraries or drag brown people out of cars.

It’s a more right wing version of the issue the Tories have. They can appeal to the reform end of their party but when they do the centre and moderate right stop voting for them and either don’t vote or vote lib/lab/green.

BestIsWest · 05/08/2024 10:27

I’m going to concentrate on the Olympics today. I had a little tear at all the people going to clear up in Middlesbrough.

DuncinToffee · 05/08/2024 10:28

Priti Patel strongly criticises Nigel Farage’s comments on “two-tier policing” — some of the loudest condemnation of Farage from a senior politician so far

We all need to remember that we are the backstop here.

SerendipityJane · 05/08/2024 10:44

Just idly contemplating, really, but what does it say about the UK that it can take months - maybe years - to get to see a medical specialist while you can be seen by a court in under 24 hours ?

Maybe whoever runs the courts should run the NHS ?

Alwaystired94 · 05/08/2024 10:44

Nah Priti, stop making me agree with you
