I'm going to meet some friends for lunch. It was a bit embarrassing last time. I was just getting back on the train home when I realised I'd left without paying. Someone paid for me and I paid her back.

I'm going to make Eton mess. Little Tennyson is extremely partial to it.

Saucery · 04/08/2024 19:54

I had such a crush on Chris Isaak in my teens Blush 🎶 what a wicked thing to dooooo….to make me dream of youoooo 🎶

In my opinion we need new legation. Any protest where an act of serious criminal damage or violence is performed is then reclassified as a riot. Attendees then have 30 minutes to disband and leave the area peacefully or everyone is arrested. Rioting should be an automatic 2 year sentence. And that goes for everyone - EDL, Gaza marches, Harehills type incidents, everything.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/08/2024 19:58

I'm working - boo! but at least in the summer my school (virtual) is closed so I get to do stuff like go see my kids face to face, take them for a coffee or a Maccies and get some energy from these amazing kids - plus all the endless admin I have to do (boo again) - I am going to buy a strimmer as well as mine broke - I live an exciting life

I think the new government needs to take stock, use the current laws and legislation and avoid knee jerk reactions, rushing through impractical and unworkable laws that take us more towards a totalitarian state.

BIossomtoes · 04/08/2024 20:03

Tennyson isn’t alone in loving Eton Mess @ilovesooty. The joys of old age, eh? 😉

Happy birthday @BIossomtoes !
I'm going to the Eisteddfod on Thursday and then (massive excitement) Billy Joel on Friday! Chris Isaak is the support which is also quite exciting.

That sounds fab. Vienna is one of my favourite songs. I tend not to go to live music. Theatre is more my thing. Got loads of tickets booked for the next year - ghost, six, Hamilton.

You can’t pass new laws then prosecute retrospectively anyway. The problem is the tories tried to introduce legislation cracking down on disruptive protest but didn’t succeed - I wonder if people would ‘take it better’ from Labour now they disagree with the protesters…

Apolloneuro · 04/08/2024 20:14

@ghostyslovesheets do you mind if I message you about virtual school, as it’s something I’d like to get into.

Has anyone got anything nice planned for this week? I’m taking a grandson to the theatre.

Quietish week this one for me.

"The problem is the tories tried to introduce legislation cracking down on disruptive protest"

Poor old Tories - 14 years, never had a majority in Parliament.

Zonder · 04/08/2024 20:28

Whaaaat? How do I catch up with all that??

I'm enjoying my holiday. (Not actually on holiday though!) No swimming training for ds. No work.

Ds is working so I'll take him and chill out. He has a hospital appointment Wednesday.

Then I'll make some plans to see people and be social. Mostly because both ds and I have our birthdays in 2 weeks!

Oh well jel for Billy Joel! I've been playing him recently via Spotify. Somewhat apt for the moment is my current fav song - "we didn't start the fire"

Love Billy Joel. So does my 19yo ds who had the most wide taste in music. I often get piano man blasting out his room or the car radio!

Alwaystired94 · 04/08/2024 20:38

does anyone just feel like this is different? i’m genuinely so beyond disgusted and worried

pointythings · 04/08/2024 20:38

'We didn't start the fire' needs a few more verses, sadly.

I think the persistence is different, normally it dies down after a couple of nights. It’s very frustrating as any fool with eyes can see some root causes need addressing and the same old ‘zero tolerance, squash dissent then act like nothing happened’ will not work. But anyone who points this out will be accused of ‘pandering to the far right’
