I hate them, stuff of nightmares

I do love that on this thread I genuinely had to check whether you hated and found nightmarish the rioters or a salty snack! 🤣🤣

ilovesooty · 04/08/2024 17:15

They're chanting "Yorkshire, Yorkshire / we want them out/ we want our country back" 😢

I see Andy Mcdonald is speaking now.

The Reform vote has actually dropped since the election. Quite what it looks like after this mess I have no idea. My guess is buyers remorse for some.

Was listening to something the other day which suggested there was a cap on support. You can attract people by blowing the dog whistle but eventually you have to blow it hard and you will attract all the really overt racists which puts people off. It’s why reform standing a candidate in every constituency was a bad idea. They just don’t have enough candidates to stand one that isn’t overtly racist in every seat.

Apolloneuro · 04/08/2024 17:17

Yeah I take back what I said. Make Farage et al put their money where their mouths are.

DrRiverSong · 04/08/2024 17:17

As a Yorkshire person myself I can say, incontrovertibly, that most Yorkshire folk are very happy with our multicultural cities and broad wealth of experience from all over the world.

i reckon the only people we all want “out” is the thuggish racist idiots. Where can we send them. I can’t even bring myself to say Lancashire, I wouldn’t wish it on them!

PandoraSox · 04/08/2024 17:11

He is on the horns of a dilemma right now, I reckon. I hope it really hurts.

Do I like being an MP more than I like being jailed for inciting violence?

Edited for spelling. There will be no hailing of Farage.

Alwaystired94 · 04/08/2024 17:20

CassieMaddox · 04/08/2024 17:10

Starmer - He promised that the "violent mob do not represent our country" and said: "If you target people because of the colour of their skin or faith, that is far-right and I’m prepared to say so."

i think his speech was so right and so needed.

calling it out for exactly what it is.

suspicious the silence from NF isn’t it? almost like now he’s an MP he realises he can be held accountable…

absquatulize · 04/08/2024 17:12

Certainly isn't the way to persuade the centre right conservative voters that one needs in the UK to vote for you in order to form a government. If Farage ever had aspirations he has blown them.

I agree. I think Farage's support is draining very quickly. Firstly, he's neglecting Clacton, he is still pursuing making a name for himself in the US, and arse licking Trump, his statements on this unrest are bad and even his buddy Pritti Patel is criticising him.

Chris Riddell on Nigel Farage and his dogwhistle politics – cartoon

The riots in Southport and elsewhere are meat and drink to the leader of Reform UK

NGL would love to see the bollock faced foghorn of ignorance jailed a month after finally becoming an MP.

I actually can't even imagine Yorkshire culture without the Asian influence, it is deep part of yorkshires identity to me (I grew up there). Sayeeda Warsi is a shero of mine.

Yeah, bugger off, we don’t want them and we’ve enough of our own, unfortunately. Wink

Sometimes posters arrive on these threads with a slightly bolshie air but settle in. Sometimes they are just looking for a ruck and are not posting in good faith. The second type just need ignoring consistently and they will most likely just fuck off, having not got what they came for.

that poster is like that always. i’ve had the misfortune to come across them before and yeah, always seems to be bad faith.

I’m scoffing Menorcan cheese, may pour a Menorcan gin & tonic a bit later I have nothing constructive to add just incredibly upset seeing such destruction & wilful violence on our streets & the awful hateful speech being bandied about by people filled with hate, my heart breaks for those young girls who were killed & the family’s who should be grieving in peace.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2024 17:31

I feel so, so sorry for the friends and family of the three girls that were murdered in Southport . Their tragedy has been hijacked by thugs. These riots are not helping them Leave them to grieve in peace.

well said

dontcallmelen · 04/08/2024 17:31

Apologies for spag I’m very tired.

RafaistheKingofClay · 04/08/2024 17:33

I wish the media would stop reporting the riots as linked to the murders in Southport. I doubt most of these rioters could tell you what had happened of the names of the three murdered girls.

Saucery · 04/08/2024 17:33

Love Chris Riddell’s art @BustingBaoBun . Was fortunate enough to see him at an event where he drew for us “off the cuff” with a visualizer thing pointing at the paper so we could see every stroke as he made it. Fabulous!

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2024 17:35

FB shows me Braverman went on GB news and said she hopes she isn't pushed into joining reform.

Cassie I noted that about the telegraph. I mentioned it here a week or so ago. It was constant news+ (i don't subscribe) headlines on my news page of my phone and such inflammatory headlines. Clearly made up lies too. But people believe it Sad

SerendipityJane · 04/08/2024 17:40

I think the interwebs are trying to cheer me up. Hopefully this brief distraction will remind us all it's not all doom and gloom.

She needs to just do it. It's clear where her heart is anyway.

Doesn't that translate into "look what you made me do" ? The abusers charter everywhere ?

bombastix · 04/08/2024 17:45

Starmer used some interesting language such as guarantee. The other thing was the use of remand; you are attested and given no bail. So I don’t know what their prison capacity is, but it has to be good to do that. So all these cases will now move to the top of the CJS to be processed.

The slight mystery to me is this; most of these are serious offences. You cannot try them in the magistrates. It will have to be a Crown Court and a jury. And these people will be locked up on remand for a long time for that.

The shocking scenes we’re seeing on the streets of Britain have nothing to do with the tragedy in Southport. This is violent, criminal behaviour that has no place in our society. The police have our full support to deal with these criminals swiftly and they must face the full weight of the law.

Rishi’s just realised he’s leader of the opposition and released a statement. Pretty much backing what Starmer said. If we’d had this Rishi for the last 2 years we might not have had rioters chanting ‘stop the boats’.
